Easy to get to by bus from the stations to Praca Republica: just a couple of mins up the diagonal. Lots of quirky studenty bars round about. The university area is not too bad a climb from here, and it's an easy stroll down into town.

Andre at reception did his best with onward info. Comfy dorm bed really well priced. Reasonable facilities, though a pc would have been helpful.

Signage isn't great, and the approach up steep steps in the unprepossessing 'garden' is Bates Motelesque. Spooky & creaky with a slightly House of Usher feel, but friendly enough character, despite few guests in rainy February. Could be a good atmosphere going in a jollier season.

A bit crumbling but not so crummy

A good hostel with average bathroom/kitchen facilities etc. The location is really good, on a hill so the views are great. The attic room is the largest mixed dorm (which makes it the cheapest!) and its really full of character! loved it.

Location is good.  Staff is very friendly and helpful. I was in a hurry to book a private room in Coimbra and I came across this hostel.  The rooms looked OK in photos. When I arrived there the room really was depressing; looking to old twin bed with Cracked walls and yellowish white color. Toilette down stairs was not really clean.  I changed the room in the last night where I really got better room. You may need to check with them if you want good private room.  The breakfast is a toast,  jam butter and juice.  It's OK for me but you may look for bigger or better breakfast

Would think twice before going there

Its a hostel - so don't expect any luxury. What makes a hostel a hostel is the awesome atmosphere, great travelers, friendly and helpful staff und good facilities - thats what you find here.
This was one of the coolest stays I've had in Portugal, you meet people easily, they have a big living room, a beautiful garden and common area. Everybody just hangs out there. Rooms were big, had wifi, everything you needed and bathroom and kitchen were always clean. 
The staff is so friendly, they help you with everything und if you are bored, ask them to cook something with you. Had the funniest day, when we baked Pastel de Nata with the staff. 
Stay here, fall in love with Portugal and Coimbra and alle the great people you will meet in this hostel!

Best hostel I've stayed in Portugal.

The location is very close to the center and the hostel is a nice old building. The furniture are very particular and give to the house a vintage touch. The guys who run the hostel are very helpful and friendly. Just one bad spot it should be cleaner, specially the bathrooms.
