Let me clarify something: these days I don't write reviews for TripAdvisor. But I decided to open an exception to Convento Senhora da Vitória as it was so special. 

I was hesitating. It was my birthday and I wanted to chose well the place for the night. Castelo de Vide is lovely and then I saw the listing of Convento Senhora da Vitória. I was a bit taken aback by previous guests reviews but in the end I just followed my instinct and booked.

This was the smartest thing to do. The place was indeed special and magic. Wow! It's not everyday that one has the chance to spend time and sleep in a historical building. And the convent was renovated and adapted in the best possible way. 

Each corner hides new surprises. Each room is cozy, homey and atmospheric. The decoration is lovely. The piles of magazines and books add a touch of class. The details are amazing: the efforts to heat up such a cold structure, the fire always burning in the fireplace living room, the attention to the comfort of the guests.

Breakfast was impeccable, location was generally quiet and I had a great night of sleep.  Wi-fi was stable and fast.

My bedroom was awesome! What a view! What a space! The bathroom needed some attention at a maintenance level but was beautiful and full of charm. I have no words to describe how much the place. I travel a lot, I stayed in hundreds of hotels, hostels, guesthouses, homestays. And this one goes straight to my top 5. It's unique.

Now, if you are picky and strict, stay away, it's not a place for you. If you are obsessed with details and expect the coldness of a hotel room, look somewhere else. If you have magic and fantasia in your heart, if you love unique places with history, look no further!

P.S. - There is space for improvement at the reception, which was not welcoming. Not rude, but not warm either. The place deserves more. Also, it's not good to ask payment on the check in... it lacks charm and style, that's more adequate to a roadside cheap motel.

One of the best stays ever!

If you wish to have a stay at a quiet, best decorated, Full of history place in Alentejo, you have to stay here.the silent the stilness, the location, the staff. ***** Stars.

Amazing

It is an old monastery, somewhat dark and picturesque. Thumbs up for the quirky and retro furniture and thumbs down for the cleanliness. It felt as if dust was everywhere, there were spiderwebs on our bedroom ceiling and our tub had a bug. Breakfast was OK: coffee, "orange" juice, milk, yogurt, fruit, bread and "boleimas" (local pastry). Wi-Fi worked and it was free. Cash-only place.

Not as good as it seems

We wanted to stay here but the only way to pay the deposit was bank transfer and in these days of internet fraud we were not comfortable doing this (indeed my bank recommended that I did not do this).  So sadly even though it looks lovely and we would have liked to stay, the payment system did not work for us.

Our room was a "monks" cell (only not, because it was a newly renovated space - with the space made as small as possible for sleeping quarters).  There was room for 2 single beds - put together in an L shape - not enough room to be side by side- and to turn around.  No hooks, hangers or a place to hang your damp towel, even.  There was one lamp that warmed the room - which was cold.  There was hot water, however when anyone used the toilets or showers the whole upstairs smelt of sewage.  The mattress was comfortable and the staff were very friendly - those were the only pluses.

Don't stay here!  Smells like sewage backup.

Wonderfully quirky B&b.

Pros: quiet spot outside of town, Beautiful gardens, pretty pool and love the beds as lounges. Large room and bathroom (we stayed in the verde room)

Cons: no lift, although they will carry your bags to the room
 Lots of odd little lamps in the room, but not enough light (when I said one of the three small lamps in the room wasn't working they seemed perplexed as to what to do. )
No air conditioning  Breakfast served at 9.  (Inconvenient for overnight stays on a schedule.)
Sort of spoke English.
