Wonderful trip to the Amazon rainforest. Our guide, Gabriel, was great. He was able to name all the birds we spotted on Lake Sandoval, and was very knowledgeable about the snakes, monkeys, and macaws. So glad I brought my binoculars — saw lots of capybaras!

So many birds!

We really enjoyed the stay! Everythings was excelent: pick up at the airport, transportation to the lodge, lodge itself, all the jungle tours. The lodge exceeded our expectations! Delicious food, clean, speed Wifi, amazing people working there. Our guide Raymond was super awesome! He is an expert at the jungle life and showed us many increadable animals. Thank you so much! I highly recomend thia lodge!

I want to come back!

We had a great experience at Chuncho lodge! Two couples (all in our 50s) went for 3 day/2 night stay. The experience was excellent. Our main guide, Daguer (not sure of the spelling), was very good at spotting wildlife/insects/plants and explaining (facts &/or how they are used). The facilities are lovely and comfortable... despite it being quite hot outside, and despite not having electricity during the overnight (as they use a generator only at key times), we all slept well... that was a concern I had going in, but it was not an issue. The clay lick, the tower, the night hikes, and Lake Sandovol were all highlights. We also ran across a group of monkeys 3 different times (which was a lot of fun). The food and drinks were all very tasty as well (although that was our experience throughout our Peru trip... not just here). Overall, I would definitely recommend Chuncho Lodge to those looking for a jungle experience.

Chuncho was a wonderful jungle experience

We had a great time and saw a lot of diverse wildlife, including at least ten kinds of parrots and macaws, giant river otters, tons of birds, so many monkeys, some tarantulas, a snake, and caiman alligators! We also glimpsed the rare tapir!

We did the 4 day / 3 night package that includes the Chuncho parrot clay lick and Sandoval Lake. 

Chuncho Lodge assigned a guide, Carlos, who led us on all of our experiences and ate with us at all the meals. He was great to work with, very knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. He really made sure this trip was special and successful for us.

The main lodge room at Chuncho Lodge has chargers for phones and electronic devices all the time, games tables, and a lounge area. In spite of the hot, humid weather during the days, the nights were comfortable and less humid and good for sleeping.

Amazing, wild experience!

We went on a five day, four day trip with Chuncho Lodge. It was awesome. The lodge is in the middle of the forest and from the lodge we saw monkeys and many birds. The staff were warm and friendly and the atmosphere was great. The activities were brilliant. The river trips to see macaws, night walks and wildlife sighting walks were awesome. We saw so many birds and animals from capybaras to tarrantulas to howler monkeys. On the last night we stayed at Amasisa Lodge on Lake Sandoval. An ox bow lake. Although the accommodation was pretty basic it was totally worth it to see giant river otters, black caymans and so much more. Our guide Esau was the BEST!!!

Brilliant stay in the jungle

A really memorable jungle experience. The staff at the lodge were amazing, the quality and portions of the food was great! And the fruit juices every meal were appreciated with the heat! We saw snakes, tarantulas, lots of macaws and parrots, capybaras, monkeys (howlers, squirrel and capuchin) , giant otters, porcupine and caimans. Our guide was Daguer and he is so passionate about the animals as well as being amazing at spotting them and shared with us some of the culture tied in with the jungle. Everything was very well organised we left happy. Thanks Chuncho 

Amazing experience 

We had a great time at Chuncho Lodge. We booked the 5 day jungle experience and we were not disappointed.
Hats off to the people at the lodge, chef, waiter, boatman - excellent.
The lodge is lovely, wi-fi + plenty of charging points. Food was great, lots of fresh fruit and juice. We had our own bungalow + ensuite, with cooling shower.
Our guide was Jaguer - he was very knowledgeable, plants, animals and especially birds. As an avid birder, I was very pleased with what he could pick out. He was also very good with digiscoping.
Thoroughly recommend for anyone who wants the jungle experience.

Great time in the Amazonian Jungle

We made the 4-day trip that includes both the river area with macao clay licks and Sandoval Lake. Highly recommended this version as Sandoval Lake is a very different ecosystem than the river area! You should not miss any of them! Chuncho Lodge is excellent, very nice, clean and eco-friendly accomodation in the jungle. The lodge has a beautiful restaurant, the food and the service are wonderful. But the best of the best was our guide, Daguer Irey! He is very educated, intelligent and knows everything about the jungle. He often made extra efforts to show us as many animals and interesting plants as possible. Don't miss this excellent tour!

Best jungle experience!

Me, my partner, and my mum all travelled to Peru in May/June 2023. It had always been on our bucket list to go to the Amazon, but we were on somewhat of a budget, so were looking for something affordable, yet action-packed. 

Well, we couldn't have asked for anything more perfect! Both Jorge and our guide Marco were fantastic and made us feel so at home. They were always happy to answer any questions we had, and it's safe to say, we had the experience of a lifetime! 

We opted for the 4-day expedition which included two nights in Tambopata at the main lodge, and one night at Sandoval Lodge. Throughout the trip, we saw so much wildlife, including caiman, capybara, snakes, tons of monkeys, macaws, and toucans among others. Marco even set out to find us a sloth on the last day of our trip, and we are so so grateful. It just made the trip even more special, as we'd be dying to see one! 

Honestly, if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Tambopata, then this is your place! We wouldn't look anywhere else now, and it's safe to say, that if we ever head back to the Peruvian Amazon, this is where we'll be staying.

Everything from the transport and accommodation to the excursions and food was amazing, and the staff went above and beyond to make our trip special! 

Better yet, our guide (Marco) was a fantastic photographer, and he went out of his way to take amazing photographs for us, which he then sent over by WhatsApp! Thanks to his dedication, we also got to stay out late on Sandoval Lake, witness shooting stars, and see the Milky Way for the first time! 

Thank you to everyone who made our trip, quite literally the trip of a lifetime, but an especially big thank you to Jorge and Marco! We will always be grateful for the amazing experience you've given us! :) 

Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in the Amazon! :D

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 3D/2N experience at Chuncho Lodge in July. 

Booking was very smooth, Jorge is always quick to respond to questions, or to provide information where needed. There are of course plenty of lodges, so picking the right one seems a daunting task.

Upon arrival by bus, Jorge was waiting for us to pick us up. After meeting up at base camp in Puerto Maldonado, we were introduced to Marco, our guide. We then took off to the lodge in the rainforest. The grounds are very well kept, and you feel you are in a paradise amidst the impressive jungle vegetation. The rooms are spotless and have all the comfort you need.

Wandering through the forest was so interesting: seeing lots of plants and birds and little animals, getting very knowledgeable information along the way, without ever being rushed. The canopy tower was nothing less than spectacular, with the views and sounds of the forest. Marco did wonders with his binoculars and telescope, and spotted something new every couple of minutes.

The second day we went for the clay lick, which was an exciting activity once more. Going up the river gives a feeling of really exploring the Amazon. You could tell Marco was very well informed, since we saw other guides checking with him seveal times to check what was going on in the trees. The tapir crossing our path was an incredible surprise.

Two times we did a night walk with Marco, which blew us away really. Marco was great with our kids, and made sure they were of course safe in the first place, but not in a limiting way, so that they could explore as much as possible.

The stars at night are not often mentioned, but they are mesmerising, being far away from any light polution.

The third day we visited Sandoval lake before heading back to base camp.

Compliments to the kitchen as well, where they provided us with a tasty meal every time, whether it was the packed breakfast/lunch or when eating at the lodge.

Jorge always keeps track of your personal itinerary and adapts where necessary, e.g. when you have a plane to catch.

All in all we couldn't see where to make improvements, we left with memories for a lifetime, and the feeling that we have had a perfect stay with huge "bang for buck". For us and our kids this was without any doubt one of the highlights of our holiday in Peru.
