If you want to combine the thrilling nature of the Amazon jungle in an accessible fashion while receiving world-class service from the staff at a modern day luxury lodge in the jungle, then Corto Maltes is the PERFECT spot for you. 

I’ve traveled across the world in search of adventure and culture (and nature) through photography, and the Amazon— specifically the Corto Maltes lodge— meets those interests perfectly. From the moment you arrive off a water taxi from the Tambopata River, you’re greeted with smiling faces and chilled beverages. Immediately, the science and tropical setting takes prominence, but it’s not long before more members of the friendly staff arrive to welcome the guest for their stay. 

I took the Taricaya tour, which focuses on a lot of nature and wildlife. Near the lodge, caiman tours are a daily and nightly activity. Howler monkeys can be heard creating a vocal jingle melody quite often, and beautiful toucans and macaws paint the airwaves in different tropical colors. There’s a nearby animal rehabilitation center, which gives you the opportunity to see the healing process for a host of animals that would otherwise be difficult to spot in the wild. 

As for the lodge itself, the buildings have beautiful wood paneling and are decorated in stunning, trendy yet cultural fashion. The grounds are kept in pristine condition by landscaping standards, and there’s a large, refreshing pool located in the middle of the campus. Each bungalow is large enough for comfort and storage while providing the perfect home style touches like a hammock and patio (or balcony) to make the accommodation feel like home.

If you’re more of a foodie, you’ll love the Corto Maltes menu. With an active kitchen cooking on-site breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day, the chefs focus on a French-Peruvian fusion cuisine since the founder of the lodge has French roots. What this creates is a visually appealing, tasty combination of diverse, fresh Peruvian ingredients that are cooked and styled according to the rules and guidelines of classical French cooking. The meals are filling, which is key when spending time in the Amazon, and the desserts are among the most decadent I’ve ever had— even after eating heavily in Italy! Oh, and there’s a fun, lively bar at the lodge with super friendly bartenders and it’s always playing good music, so that’s a great place to unwind and relax. 

Overall, the entire experience is filled so tu unforgettable moments. From the canopy walk where we viewed the rainforest from high above to the numerous caiman searched we embarked upon at night to meeting the native Machiuenga tribe that lives nearby, this experience ranks at the very top of a long list of cherished, thrilling memories. 

I will absolutely be returning to Corto Maltes soon, likely in a few more months, when it will be time for me to scratch that adventure-filled itch once again.

Blending Comfort with World Class Adventure in the Amazon Jungle with Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge

We traveled to Corto Maltés with a family of six, kids ranging from 6 to 18. 
Let’s start with the great: We saw SO many animals — our guide, Mario, was awesome at spotting them. Caiman, otters, four types of monkeys, many more. Food was fresh and delicious. Beds were comfortable inside cute bungalows. The massages were reasonably priced and amazing! The pool was perfect to cool off during the heat of the rainy season. 
Next the bad: There were A LOT of bugs. Despite diligent use of bug spray and mosquito nets, we each came away with HUNDREDS of bites. Secondly, several of the kids became sick on our last day — fever and all the travelers’ illness symptoms. Last, it was extraordinarily hot. This is to be expected but the offer of a fan or some ice would have been very nice! 
Last, the meh: We were there over Christmas and we were the only guests. It felt a little dead. Other travelers we talked to a neighboring resorts had big fiestas or cultural presentations at their places for Christmas. For us, it was just another day. Not s big deal but a missed opportunity.
I would recommend Corto Maltés and especially our guide, Mario. 

Really wild!

Excellent place to stay and explore the Amazon. Accommodations are rustic but clean and comfortable. Food was consistently good and the pool and bar were great places to relax between outings. We did the 3day/2night itinerary that included several hikes and sites on and off the lodge grounds. Our guide, John, was amazing - kind, knowledgeable, and funny - and showed us so many plants and animals. Highly recommend the Lake Sandoval boat tour! If you need AC and TV, this is not your place - but if you want to be able to unplug and experience the surrounding wildlife, the Corto Maltes is a great choice. We would definitely return. 

Met and exceeded expectations

We stayed at corto maltes july 2022. We really really enjoyed it.
The whole area, garden, houses and swimmingpool are really lovely, well kept and clean.
Mosquitos in july is no problem. And as extra protection the dininghall and houses are mosquito proof with nets and on top of this also net over the bed.
Food is great, 3 courses both for lunch and dinner.
There are plenty of tours and they are really good. We saw lots of animals, tarantulla, macaws, monkeys, caimans, beauytiful birds, tucan.
The sunset over the river is spectacular while drinking a cold beer.
Overall really af good experience and would centainly recommend this place!

Great place

Our trip here was perfect from start to finish.
The food was healthy and delicious.  The bungalows made the stay unique (hamacs, mosquito nets...).  Even the fact that the electricity is cut at certain hours of the day adds to the atmosphere.  The grounds are full of lush vegetation and pet animals--parrots, squirrels and others whose names I didn't retain. The swimming pool hits the spot after early morning outings.  
Above all, our guide, Olivier, was exceptional.  His knowledge of the local fauna and flora was impressive. We learned a lot about all aspects of the area.

Would definitely recommend at least 3 days at this lodge.

Paradise

We visited the Corto Maltes Amazonia with our family of 7 in December.  We loved having the resort to ourselves - especially with it being the beginning of our Peru adventure and our concerns about COVID.  The Bungalows were quaint and well maintained.  We had zero problem with bugs as we slept with our mosquito nets as directed and kept trash and other items off the floor.  It was one of the few places during our travels in Peru that we had hot water for showers!
The Food was AMAZING and all of our dietary needs were met and exceeded.  Being nervous about eating in a 3rd world country, we were pleasantly surprised at the variety and safety of the food.  The presentation was incredible as well - on par with fine dining restaurants!
Our Guide, Raul, was incredible.  He was very knowledgeable and  taught us so much about the flora and Fauna of the rainforest.  To those who are only looking for a zoo experience, you are really missing out in learning about how the forest grows and works together as a singular unit.  

We saw several troops of monkeys, lots of Caiman and exotic wild birds.  Our trip to Lake Sandoval was incredible with the prospect of seeing some of the most feared river monsters of the Amazon.  

After our stay we learned of even more remote resorts - but we felt that our stay at the Corto Maltes Amazonia was perfect for our short time available and it turned out to be one of our most treasured parts of our Peru experience.

Perfect Amazon adventure for our Family

I spent 3 nights at Corto Maltes during the rainy season and, despite the unpredictable weather, Moïses, our guide, remained upbeat and helped to make our stay memorable and informative. Our excursion to Sandoval lake was particularly memorable!

Dont trust this place with your money. Been waiting for a refund over 6 months now. 709 euros is what i paid. Everytime i email them, there's been problem with the bank and they will contact the bank again on monday and then will get back to me. But.. they never get back to me with an answer and same thing happens everytime when i ask again.

Not refunding any money back... been waiting 6 months now!!!

THEY ARE SCAMMING OUR MONEY

When covid hit we first postponed our stay in Corto Maltes Amazonia two times before giving up cause the covid situation didn't get any better. Corto Maltes Amazonia promised that we will get the full refund and I was hoping to spend that money on this same lodge after the world's situation would calm down.

For the past 6+ months I have heard excuses after excuses why I still have not got my money back. They say that their banks "isn't responding them".

Corto Maltes Amazonia owes us 709.80€ so they are propably living big at the moment with our money!!!!!

After several attempts to trying to solve this with this lodge I have to warn you all!! DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING. YOU WON'T NEVER SEE THAT MONEY AGAIN!!!!

Wonderful, authentic experience in the rainforest! Excursions included a trip to Sandoval Lake to see the local flora and fauna, a late night boat ride to search for the white caiman, and a trip to a beautiful lookout tower to see the canopy! Our guide, Moisol (spelling may be off, sorry!) was excellent and was able to spot wildlife that we would have easily missed during hikes. The food was excellent and all the staff we encountered went above and beyond.

We got very lucky during our excursion and were able to see a lot of wildlife. We also used fruit to make friends with the birds that live on the property! Overall, an excellent experience being in the middle of the rainforest, surrounded by such amazing sights and sounds.
