Long walk in from Skogadalsbøen, and we were pretty tired when we arrived. Staff were extremely welcoming. Food was great (traditional Norwegian) and the showers were hot. Just what we needed!

The hut had recently been taken over by DNT who plan to invest in it. This means that if you are a DNT member the usual discounts apply. 

Location is great and although there is a small road it feels remote. A good jumping off point for further exploration of Jotunheimen.

We came here after we got drenched by rain all day and were freezing after our hike from Spiterstulen. 
DNT Leirvassbu is SO cozy inside. Everywhere are lovely decorations and we felt right at home. Organisation is perfect (Check-in, ... is very simple). And the best: the hosts are SO lovely and kind. Food was delicious and the staff was super friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. 

We had a nice stay at Leirvassbu. It was a perfect place to stay in between hiking different 2000 meters tops🏔️ The food was also delicious 🤤 There’s a lot of 2000 meters tops nearby this cabin. We’ll come back!

If you want to experience hiking with beautiful sceneries, this is perfect mountaineering lodge in a wonderful setting. If you consider going: Do it!

One pays 250 NOK for one person in a bedroom for four persons - a wholesome breakfast included! - which is extremely cheap, in Scandinavian terms. The beds are very comfortable and the view on each side of the buidling is incredibly beautiful. The showers are warm and there is no time limit for washing. The staff is very kind. There is a lovely living room for all guests with a fireplace and books to read (some even in English). We did not try the dinner, for it was not vegeterian, so I can't say much about that. However, the other guests seemed to enjoy it. There are sheep all around the cabin, which are very cute, but unfortunatly, they start bleating at six in the morning. As this is the only disadvantage about the hut so far, I would strongly recommend it to any hiker in the area.

I’ve been on a number of ski trips in Norway. I’ve probably stayed in 15 huts. This is my favorite for the scenery. The facilities are basic but the dining room/bar is very nice. 

Why does TripAdvisor require 200 characters?

This is a traditional place to stay for a day or more and go on mountain hikes from here. It’s quite a drive out from the main road, but the views are amazing and it’s totally worth it. The common areas are very cozy and welcoming, the rooms are simple, but comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have taken very seriously the corona- measures and you feel very safe staying at this place.
The WiFi didn’t reach the rooms and it was uncomfortable since there was no telephone coverage in the area. 
You had to pay 100 kr fee to drive up the road to the place. I did not count on this extra expense.

We arrived here and had a break, bought some food at the bar, the waffles were good the thing from their menu just overpriced and eatable.
Good service and atmosphere. Free WIFI. Off we went forward on our hike.

Pit stop on our way to Spiterstulen 

The only good thing about this hotel was its location and surroundings, and being surrounded with snow even in summer. The location was magical and very beautiful. However, the hotel is more like a 2-star hotel. The room was okay, however the bathroom was not good and needed serious renovation. The hallways were also very poor and needed renovation. The breakfast had very very limited options. We mainly rated the place 3 star due to its superb location.

Nice Area

The lodge in itself is okay - ugly on the outside, cozy on the inside. Rooms are spartan, but then that is to be expected - it is a lodge for outdoor pursuitists, not a luxury getaway.

Shared bathrooms are clean - I only found 2 showers for the whole place, but they were never in use, so there must be more (I wasn't told).

Food is mixed - they only offer one 3-course menu each day (plus some smaller dishes); we found out, only after asking, that one or two courses could be ordered, but prices were not forthcoming.

Upon checkout, we were asked what we had eaten over the 2 days, like they didn't know? I was also asked to state how many thermos flasks I had filled, and had to remind them that they told me this was included. Then they asked if I had made lunch from the breakfast buffet - I didn't know that this service was offered, as they never told me, and they again, didn't mention the price.

The whole impression was one of vagueness - where they were trying to add to my bill, without knowing what I had used.

Finally, the road in. It takes half-an-hour to drive in the rain, and it costs 60kr. Nobody seems to mention this extra cost of staying there - they should.
