Originally I book for two nights in the Dorm 1 but i just stay on the dorm for 1 hour or less. I directly left when i killed a bed bug on my arm. There are visible evidence for bed bugs on the mattress picture with the brown colour dots (blood stain and infestation). 

Infestation is very bad where while lying down for 20minutes or so, i got bite on my arms, shoulders and legs. I managed to get a RM20 refund as I did not stay for the two nights.

Vibe is good as there are painting from fellow travellers, however down side, toilets are old school and of classical type (others might term it dirty). Critical part is, if they dont solve the bed bugs problem it will be bad for backpackers.

Of all the good reviews been written, it might be cherry picking or pre bed bugs era.

I reckon for those who are interested to pick this hostel. Do reconsider. That is my sincere advice.

Beg Bugs

I stayed in Kuantan backpackers 2 nights. 

At the first sight, the place is not looking very nice. Pretty old. Not really welcoming. 

After my check-in, i went straight to the room who was a 10 or 12 bed dorm. The room was clean and spacious. As it was very quiet, i had the room for myself. The aircon was working very well.

The only thing is that you'll need to prepare your bed by yourself. It was not a problem for me, but can be annoying when you arrive late, you're tired thinking that you'll be able to lay on your bed straight away ...

Nice common area & kitchen with TV + Free computers. Wifi has been working properly everywhere. Basic Breakfast. I didn't tried, but one of the guy staying there told me that it was possible to do some laundry ... 

Bathrooms with hot showers. 

On the 1st floor, there is some storage rooms with no door or curtains ... 

Otherwise the local bus station is across the road. Some restaurants and shops around. The river & the city centre are 10-15 minutes walk from the hostel. 

Last thing, The girl at the reception didn't had any change, so i've been in need to wait my last morning to be able to pay...

This hostel is quite good. It has a kitchen providing free tea, coffee & toast as well as cooking facilities if you want to cook for yourself. We utilised this a lot. 

They have bus schedules and fare prices for long and short distance in the hallway and staff are very friendly. There is a tv where you can play films. 

Negatives, the rooms are sooo tiny, you can hardly open your backpack without taking all the space. There's a notice saying all rooms come with aircon but ours only had a fan but they told me it was the same price. Paid 60 ringgit and then got stung with an extra 10 for tourism tax which just started this month. It turned out to be really too expensive for what you get.  

The kitchen and bathrooms could have been a lot cleaner...

Good for the kitchen facilities, otherwise an ok hostel

I leave my review for this hostel only about 3 years after my visit.. 
I stayed in Kuantan 2 days in January 2013 and I thought this was the only hostel available in town. 
I was the only guest during those two days and I enjoyed my stay very much. The hostel is very clean, tidy and with all the necessary facilities for budget travellers.
The owner kindly suggested places to visit and offered her parents to give me a lift to a nearby village to visit an old mine. They drove me back to Kuantan as well.

Excellent Hostel and helpful staff

We came to Kuantan after looking online expecting a lovely place but it's horrible, the hostel itself is ok- most rooms are tiny with no windows and the bathrooms are very scruffy but the guy at the front desk is nice and there's free coffee/tea/toast and a kitchen to use which you will need as we couldn't find anywhere to eat, it's opposite a supermarket which is convenient and there is a common area with sofas, a to and computer, overall if you have to come to Kuantan as a stopover to somewhere else its fine as its very near the bus station but don't be fooled like us and think it's a good place to visit- there is nothing here
