Mr. B Guesthouse

Stayed there for two nights with my boyfriend. Not the cheapest place in Don Det but we loved it. Has dogs, puppys and a lot of chicken and roosters, so sometimes in the morning you might wake up early from their noises, but didnt bother us that much. The bungalows are cozy and have mosquito nets, beds are maybe a bit hard. Shower / toilet was not the cleanest, but not horrible either. The woman who runs the place is extremely lovely and we liked the breakfast. Best part is the hammock terasse with great view over the river.

Friendly staff, fantastic location, a hut near the river for just £5, puppies and chicks running around - just bliss. The bed was a little hard but for the price you can’t really complain. It’s a great place for chilled out, low maintenance travellers to stay.

Beautiful farm with animals and great riverview

Perfect for chilled out travellers

At first you think great! Bungalow by the river...
But a few hours later I ended up with nearly breaking my coccyx as the hammock I was lying in just gave in.  My lower back still hurts a few weeks later. On inspection of other hammocks they looked very much like there were going to give in too. 
Then in the middle of the night I heard a loud bang coming from next door. I asked my neighbour in the morning what it was and she said the fan had just dropped off the ceiling above her head. Luckily no injury...
There are cheaper, nicer and safer places to stay around....

Unsafe bungalows!!!

It's unfortunate to leave such a message, as I enjoy praising people and places, but I just had to put this out there for fellow travellers- I do not want them to go through the same experience as I have.

Firstly, I arrive to no greetings at all. They show me a room, which to be honest isn't bad at all. But for the price they ask (not even by the riverside), it isn't worth it. The guesthouse right beside offers the same price but by the river.

Secondly, I order fresh spring rolls, and am aware that waiting time can be quite long, so I wait patiently. But when I finally get the spring rolls, I bite into a small pebble, which breaks my tooth!!!

I tell the lady, who is trying not to laugh and plays it innocent, saying it could be a peanut. I show her the pebble and says she doesn't know. I start by asking for a refund for the Bungalow which she refuses and says that she will give it to me if I decide to leave. I then tell her that the price of repair is expensive and would like her to contribute to paying for this. She shoves it off and really doesn't show any sign of empathy. 

I highly discourage anyone to go here. Such service is unacceptable, and be careful with your food!

Horrific experience

Quite frankly I never had such a bad experience with any accommodation before, while I have been traveling South-East Asia for more than three months now. When I arrived to Mr. B’s sunset bungalows (previously Mr. B’s guesthouse) he offered me a bungalow with common (squatting) toilet and shared bathroom, given that the bathroom-equipped bungalows were full. When I checked out the room the sheets were already quite dirty and had some ugly stains, but given the price and the fact that it was raining and getting dark I settled for it.

When I arrived back to the bungalows in the evening after some drinks with my friends I found a huge hole in the door of the room. My neighbour informed me that two of the dogs staying on the premises had broken through the door and entered into the room. When I entered the room I could see that they had been on my bed. It is a mystery why the dogs entered the room, given that I did not have any food in either of my bags. When I wanted to inform the staff about this issue to at least get some new sheets, I could find no-one around. I knocked all the doors of the residential buildings, but there was no response. Given that I believed my chances of finding a new accommodation at 12 o’clock to be quite slim, I decided to take my travel-mummy-sheet and sleep in the room anyways. 

At 4 o’clock the next morning I was woken up by the dogs scratching the door of my room and the piece of wood I had put in front of the hole in the door. I waited outside till the first staff arrived at 6.30, when she literally saw the two dogs running through the hole out of my room again (even though none of my stuff was inside anymore). When I informed her about the issue, she first told me I should have come to her. When I said I actually did knock on the door several times and actually could see that no-one was there, she told me she was probably already asleep then. She subsequently refused to refund my night because ‘I had made use of the room and the fan’. When I insisted that I did not have much other choice given the absence of any staff or ‘emergency’ number to call, she literally said that she could only refund “if I had slept outside”. I left the premises at 7 in the morning without any apology or compensation. 

Other guests staying there at the time also complained about the poor cleanliness of the room (including cockroaches). Even if you want a real cheap stay, there are better options if you just walk a bit further into town!
