We did not really know what to expect as this was our first visit to an Onsen town, but we really had a wonderful time!
The hospitality at Kinosaki Yamamotoya was the best, we had a nice room and the food was fantastic.
We stayed for two nights and got a different meal every day.

Wonderful time in Kinosaki Onsen

I came here from the review on TripAdvisor and found that this hotel is very good to stay. Staffs are lovely and willing to help. Food is nice for both dinner and breakfast. However, please bring your room confirmation with you since firstly they can’t see that my reservation already includes dinner. They have WiFi but with low speed. Overall is still ok. I recommend this place 

This ryokan is right in the heart of Kinosakionsen. We had a traditional room right on the street front. The service is fantastic and their own baths (private and communal) were lovely. Kinosakionsen is lovely little place but can be hard to find food or a drink before 10am or after 5, even when they say they should be open so unless you're eating at the ryokan be ready to do some walking! Totally worth the though.

Perfect location, perfect place!

This is my favorite hotel in my favorite town in the world! Wonderful, authentic feeling. Each room is lovely and the staff is wonderfully friendly. They keep a few English speakers on staff and the owners speak very good English as well. I'm happy to see the town growing in popularity. Yamamoto-ya's onsen is a great place to try the experience for the first time. I used to come here almost every night for 4 months and I had it to myself 3 out of 5 times. And when there were other people, it was just 1 or 2. Again, a great place to try out the onsen and get used to the idea. The landscaping behind the onsen, which you can appreciate from the outdoor bath, is very relaxing and beautiful.

Overall, I just cannot recommend this hotel enough. The atmosphere is may favorite aspect but the whole experience is top notch.

Excellent hotel! Family atmosphere, authentic experience

The ryoukin was very nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was fairly standard for what we were in, view was amazing.
There was a good amount of outlets in the room itself so we could charge up our devices.

I would recommend staying at this place.

A Quaint Place to Stay with Many Onsens

Good and friendliness of the hotel staff. Clean and comfortable room

     Kinosaki Onsen is one of the most famous hot springs resort areas in Japan.    
     Right in the middle of this town stands Yamamotoya, a Japanese ryokan that has been doing business here for over 300 years.
     Check in and you will be greeted by a friendly staff whose only mission is to make you comfortable.
     The surrounding area is home to Tajima beef, the hardy animals that are synonymous with the best Wagyu beef in Japan. So in addition to the usual offerings from the sea, rest assured you will get samples of Wagyu beef. You end up with so many dishes, it will be hard to finish.
     Yamamotoya also operates a restaurant a few doors down toward the station, so you could also have your Japanese steak fix there. In both places you can also by locally brewed beer in four varieties, all worth trying.
     With the Onsen (hot springs spa) Pass provided, you can also try any os the 7 public spas available, depending on the day, since each bath shuts down for cleaning.
     Yamamotoya also has its own small baths for guests, to include outdoor tubs.
      So if you have a desire to visit a traditional Japanese spa and listen to the clip-clop of wooden geta as people go to and fro on their Onsen quests, Yamamotoya is a great place to stay.

It really give the feel of traditional Japanese culture

The service provided by the ryokan, along side with the food that they provided were truly outstanding. Staff were friendly and accommodating, always eager to help out with any needs. They also provide a onsen pass for you to access all 7 onsens in town which let's you go on an onsen tour! Only slight downside was that although the rooms were non-smoking, smoking was allowed in the corridors which led to much of the smell to drift into the room. Nonetheless the cigarette smell only affected the doorway section of the room and does not enter the main area, thereby not having much of an impact on our experience in enjoying the room and its amenities.

One of the best ryokan experiences 

Our first night at Kinosaki onsen was spent at this 350 year old ryokan, Yamamotoya. Upon arrival from Osaka, we dropped our luggage at the Kinosaki Onsen Ryokan Service Center directly opposite from the train station. For a token fee, they delivered our luggage to the ryokan, thus freeing us to explore this quaint onsen town with ease (Onsenji's venerated eleven-headed Buddha is currently on its once every 30 years exhibition until 2021 April so this is a current must-see!). Yamamotoya is very well located in the center of Willow Street (Yanagidori) such that all the seven public onsens are within less than 10 minutes' walk - with two right next door to the ryokan, Yanagi-yu and Ichino-yu. One should walk Yanagidori during both daytime and at night because the atmosphere changes dramatically and beautifully too. Welcome tea was served by the affable and helpful Ryota-san in our room, as with all meals. And Ryota-san, who spoke good English, was the one to take care of us throughout our stay. We enjoyed our Tajima beef kaiseki dinner and their house-brewed stout. After dinner, we had a familial soak in the ryokan's private onsen which turned out to be a rather small earthen tub (prior reservation and charges apply - skippable imho unless, like us, you enjoy bathing privately as a couple), and then their public rotenburos. The night view of Yanagidori from our room's balcony was really remarkable. Breakfast was good though nothing stood out in particular. Unfortunately, the famed Goshono-yu was closed for repairs and Yanagi-yu didn't open in the morning so we only tried Kouno-yu and Ichino-yu. If not for Ryota-san's unceasing hospitality, we might have left Yamamotoya missing the feeling of genuine warmth from a family-run inn in Japan - surprisingly it felt rather pedestrian for such an established ryokan.
