Daisuke and the team are lovely, and very thoughtful.  I had to do an online exam on the day we were due to checkout. They let me stay in the room late at no charge and ensured I was not interrupted. Felt like they really cared. The location was also great - right next to Onsen main lift and also able to ski in from Kanko lift. Breakfast was yummy with both Japanese and English parts. Room was simple but comfortable and warm - all you need when skiing all day! Would stay there again for sure - good value.

Convenient location and lovely hosts

Staff was super nice and helpful, location is good and just takes two minutes walk from the hotel to the Akakura Onsen Ski Resort Chairlift. The room is big enough but facilities were a bit old and lack of maintenance though.

I really loved staying here. The family who run this hotel are very nice, most people (including us), seem to have the breakfast. It is buffet style and there is something for everyone. The whole building could do with a facelift, but the owners compensate with excellent service. 

Lovely staff, slightly worn building

Conveniently located 100m from the gondola this is a great place to experience some Japanese hospitality whilst getting the most out of the mountain. Daisuke and his family are great hosts and the rooms are reasonably priced with all the amenities you would need. I would recommend this place to all types of travelers.

Perfect for families 

Daisuke-san the owner very friendly guy and offfers pick up and drop off from the nearest station which is necessary (a taxi is a rip off 3000yen). The hotel is right near the slopes and you couldn't wish for a better location. The hotel offers discounts for lift passes (youn can get one for 3500yen which we were not told about disappointingly, use it) and gear from Aoyama sports (shop around for gear though, i'm sure you can get it cheaper). There is an onsen in basement which is a bonus, but go after 6pm when people go for dinner. This place is not an onsen resort despite the complaints, its an extra touch wich is great, the floors could do with a cleaning though. There is green tea in the room is a nice touch. it appears that this place has both beds and futons/tatami mats offering you a Japanese experience if that is what you wish for.

For the hefty price, breakfast should be included. I was on 4th floor, there is no elevator up there which meant a lot of walking up and down stairs. Shop around in the town, some places charge 220yen for water which is over double Tokyo prices. WiFi worked fine too.

Great place with a good location

This is a warm family run hotel close to Akakura Onsen ski slope and rooms are clean. We spent a week there.
Daisuke san is very nice and helpful during our stay. We really appreciated his effort in helping us on our lost baggage. Price is reasonable for an ensuite room. That would be perfect if the onsen is renovated.

Nice Place to Stay

Had a wonderful stay with my wife at Akakura Wakui. Very comfy room with Japanese sitting area and Western style beds. Hosts Daisuke and Maree were very helpful. Great location. 2 minute walk to Akakura Onsen lifts. Very close to shops/food. I'd buy the Kanko/Onsen dual pass and ski over to the Kanko side. Did some nighta ski too which was cool with a little bit of pow. Had some very good snow whilst here thigh to waist deep in side country and skinning up the hill. Thanks Wakui for a great stay. And yummy breakfasts too!
