We have really enjoyed our stay at Guest House Bunk. Sasa our host (along with Jacob) have been very accommodating & genuinely friendly. We have particularly liked the communal area with open fireplace, rocking chairs, snowy views & the opportunity to socialise with other guests. Sasa's culinary skills are to be commended and nights in with a home cooked meal of local cuisine have been a real treat. We have loved our stay.

Welcoming, warm & cosy

Great Myoko accomodation for a bargain price. The rooms are nice and traditional with firm japanese fouton beds and tatami mat floors. Good ski storage facilities and an incredible free driving service to drop off and pick up at local ski resorts and shopping /dinner runs into town. Also a leasurely 20-30min downhill stroll home after dinner in Akakura. Friendly staff and great breakfasts! Very clean with good lounging areas by the fire. Small on-site onsen with slightly limited showering facilities  in the afternoon. We will stay here next year!

Great accomodation with lots of extras

My 17 year old son and I absolutely love this place and can't fault it. Its really quiet, homely, comfortable and clean - way nicer than the larger lodges and hotels in Akakura Onsen. Sasa is a fabulous cook, really entertaining and very cool. There was lots of laughter around the fireplace in the evenings. The breakfasts and dinners are outstanding. Although its a little out of the way, we were driven to the ski fields and down to the town whenever we wanted. This is our favourite lodge in Japan and I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Fantastic place!

Just completed my 4th (winter) visit to the Guest Bunk House in about 6 years. Sasa and his family never disappoint as a warm and friendly home to stay with. The rooms and facilities are warm, comfortable and clean. Restaurants and ski resorts are just up the road, a friendly lift is always offered. His family work very hard to give you the best Japanese experience. I'm already planning to book next year! Highly recommend.

Consistent great hospitality and rooms to match.

We've been at Guest House Bunk for a week now and are very very happy that we have another five days to enjoy the warm hospitality of Sasa and Etsuko and their children Futa and Sakura. We chose western style rooms which are very comfortable, warm and clean. Sasa is a terrific cook who enjoys making traditional Japanese dishes for dinner on request. After a long day skiing, Sasa is more than happy to collect us from the ski area in the village of Myoko (a five minute drive) and bring us home to a lovely warm fire and a nice cold beer. Breakfast is included with home made jams, bacon and eggs and yummy thick white toast. Although an adequate breakfast, it could definitely be improved with nice coffee and warm eggs, but the yoghurt and juices are very good. The guesthouse is a little out of the way, ie. you can't walk home from the ski fields and you have to get a lift if you want to go into the village to try out the restaurants. But after a long day on the snow, a hot bath and a nice beer, the last thing we feel like doing is donning all of our snow gear again and heading out into the cold in search of somewhere to eat. We are happier staying put and chilling out in front of the fire or for the teenagers, lying on their beds with their screens. Hiring snow gear is probably best done at Myoko Snowsports as theirs is very new and up to date. Essentially, Guest House Bunk feels like a home away from home, especially during the week when you can sit in front of the fire with the Sasahana family and have a good chat. We were overjoyed when they ordered a cake for our son's 14th birthday and cooked a particularly delicious meal. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

We love Guest House Bunk

This family operated business is wonderfully charming and very homely. Extremely clean and comfortable. No request is too big or small. The hosts are beautifully friendly, warm and accommodating. Impeccable service. I would highly recommend. We didn't want to leave. The smell of baked goods in the air every afternoon and hand crafted finishing touches in every room make each day very relaxing. You will fall in love. Endearing!
