Our deluxe accommodation was beyond deluxe....this snow cabin is huge!! It’s a family home of the owner that has been renovated into 2 large rental units.
Ours was a 2 storey house that could sleep at least 10 people. 
Very spacious and homely with a large porch overlooking a few ski slopes, an enclosed verandah for our snow shoes & equipment plus laundry area and racks to dry our ski gears, a living room with ample seatings and sofa beds, tv and projector screen for movie screenings, dining room overlooking a picturesque winter village, a fully equipped kitchen, 7 single beds upstairs and 2 bathrooms beautifully renovated. 
It’s very near a ski resort, about 100m walk. Not as full & packed as Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort ( we were there during the NY hols ).
The owner Daichi is very accomodating and prompt with emails & text messages. He provides shuttle transfers to n from Echigo Yuzawa & Gala Yuzawa stations to his rentals. Just need to inform him of your itinerary and he can help with transfers & ski rental suggestions.
We will definitely be back to this lovely place next winter.

Great Place for A Big Family Winter Holiday!

We stayed here as a family of five.  It was a great location--right at the bottom of the slopes.  We could ski home, had to walk a short distance to the lift in the morning.  The owners speak fabulous english and are super kind and accommodating.  The breakfast is super nice--they serve warm breakfast, salads, fruit, yogurts, etc.  It's a very substantial breakfast.  I would definitely stay here again.  Be forewarned--there aren't a lot of dinner places in walking distance.

Great stay, great breakfast, fab location

Bears House is a cute bed and breakfast in Yuzawa that boasts ski in and ski out location at Ishiuchi ski resort. It's not exactly ski out as you have a little bit of a hike to get to the lift but you can ski back to the house. However, my stay was a lot of fun and we had excellent service. 

My family and I were picked up at the parking lot by Daichi and his snowmobile. The house is warm and welcoming. Our room was tiny but slept two adults and three kids just fine. Most rooms have a sink but our room was on the top floor and did not have a sink. There are several shared sinks, restrooms, and a separately shared shower and tub room for the males and females. Very Japanese. 

The food was great for the adults and an adventure for the kids. Fortunately, we packed lots of snacks for the kids in case they didn't like the food that was served. I'm glad we did. The community feel of the house was excellent for making friends and having conversation. Skis, poles, bindings, snowboards can all be rented her as well. 

A Fun B&B for Families

Spent one night here with my husband for a quick ski trip. They picked us up from the Shinkansen station and it was a 5-10min drive to the residence. They had ski gear available for rental which would have been fine for me but my husband is a little more picky so we rented from a shop at the base of ishiuchi maruyama ski resort. Remember to bring lots of cash with you as rental and ski lift only take cash and no nearby ATM. Hotel took credit card but cash will save you money on fees. 
The ski hill they are on is good for a few hours and you can easily get to Gala Yuzawa and another hill with a 3 lift pass. There is night skiing here but only a few runs, have to make the trek across the mountain in the dark to do a few more runs. 
Dinner was great, thankfully for me, no raw fish. We used the onsen which is a 5-10min walk down the hill. They have outdoor options, no mixed onsen. Loved it!
The bed is typical for Japanese-style hotel, very, very hard on our backs. We ended up putting futon and duvet under us on top of the mattress and it was a little better. I wouldn't say it was any worse then our usual bedding experience in Japan. 
It was a little loud at night as the toilets and sinks are shared between guests and are right outside room door. We were so tired from skiing it was okay. 
Breakfast was the best we've had at Japanese-style hotel. Many familiar options, fruit, yogurt, toast, homemade preserves, cereal and of course egg and hot dog (I still struggle with runny egg in Japan but so many other options it was okay). 
This place is also a great option for families as well. Our kids (4, 2) would have loved the tatami room and the fireplace at night. There were some kids sledding and playin in the snow at the base of the mountain. 
Overall a great weekend. We will come back! Oh and at least one staff (owner maybe) speaks excellent English so that was very helpful for us!

One night getaway from Tokyo

We had an amazing stay at Bears House. 

It took a bit of work to find it by car, but they offer pick-up and drop-off services at the nearest Shinkansen station. The room was clean, albeit a bit of a squeeze for 3 and our board bags, but it was manageable. 

We added on a hearty breakfast for both days that we were there for, and it never fails to get us going for the day. I later learned from another guest that their dinner was just as amazing. 

PRO-TIP 1: You can ski all the way back to the resort from the slopes; just turn off before you hit the slope all the way down to the ticket gantry. This used to be an old run, but they've since removed the lift chairs. Because of that, the slope is gentle, and barely gets traffic in the day, so the snow is still nice and fluffy.

PRO-TIP 2: Although they have their own public bath in the basement, they have a tie-up for a discounted price at the Yunguru onsen 10 minutes' walk away. And a rotenburo (outdoor onsen) is a must-go after snowboarding. Just grab a discount ticket from the board in the entrance.

PRO-TIP 3: The fire place is usually set up at night, and it's a really nice place for your group to gather and chill.
