We spent 2 nights at Matsuya in Shibu Onsen at the end of our 3.5 week trip to Japan. I can't speak highly enough about the inn and the owner. It was truly a unique experience and we felt transported back in time. The owner drove us in her car to the Monkey Park and to the train station. She also offered to drive us to the next town over if we couldn't find dinner in town (not necessary, there were some restaurants open even on a Tuesday). We had breakfast (not dinner) and it was beautifully presented and delicious. We LOVED having the special key to the bathhouses and getting all of the stamps. They gave us a yukata and shoes to wear around town and it was such a lovely way to end our trip. Really, we highly recommend this location! You won't regret it!
