Due to my busy life, I regretted booking this ryokan without checking reviews in tripadvisor. Before arriving, I did not expect anything for this ryokan. However, trust me here was much better than expected. Of course, it did never look as the pictures on website. Many people must be disappointed with it, but considering price, it's good to stay with my family. First of all, it has 4 onsen places - open air onsen (rotenburo), a big indoor one (not so big tough), a small indoor one and the other one. A good thing is that all of them is occupied, ie, Kashikiri. All family members can enjoy the onsen space without disturbed by other people. All of the onsens are small and old but clean. The rotenburo is tiny but clean and cozy. Second thing is that the dinner and the breakfast are served in the room. Moreover, the futon is prepared after dinner. I have stayed over 10 ryokans living in Japan but in-room meal and bedding service costs much higher.
Over its cost, although its facility is old and humble, my family enjoyed staying this ryokan and we will stay here again if we have a next chance. The demerits are (1) a heater in room doesn't work very well so it was cold when sleeping (2) corridor had some steps so that old people may be not comfortable to go to onsen spaces. (3) the parking lot is a little far from the ryokan (4) it is not easy to find the ryokan by car. So it is better to contact the hotel when almost coming around it, then the staff will explain the way very kindly and easily.
Lastly, do not expect it as seen in the pictures on website. It never be same as them. But it is worth staying and relaxing at low cost.

Beautiful Japanese style room.  I had a Japanese room and everything was like in old Japan. location is convenient & quiet！
staff in restaurant is very nice and Great onsen.

Great stay!

I chose this hotel for it's location, wanting some peace and quiet away from the more crowded Yuumoto area, however this hotel is VERY hard to find. 

I think the owner is nice but I can't help but be very honest in this review. The food is so-so, all vegetarian but even then, I expected more - especially since I actually had to pay an extra 4000+ JPY for it. (Ridiculous that I had to pay more for non-meat items that tastes...plainer than other more fancy onsen ryokans). 

I stayed for 2 nights, and believe it or not, this was the only place that NO ONE ever prepared my bedding for me!  Both nights!! I can understand if the first night I arrived late and dinner was served late etc...but hey.. this is part of the service no?

The property is old and I dunno..I got the room on the side with no views. There are views along the corridor though. So perhaps rooms on the other side would be better. Maybe. 

Ok fine, food isn't great, no view, no bedding service (so hard to find any service at all seriously, they should put a bell or something because when you call them on the phone sometimes, no one answers.), property is old and not at all romantic. Please don't be fooled by their website pictures.
Hey if you're thinking their hotsprings could be very good? Prepare for an even bigger disappointment.
There are only 3 baths linked to the property. All 3 are private reserved baths - think this is good? Think again. When someone is using it, you can't use it. And you can't take your time because there may be someone outside waiting for you to be finished, especially if you're using the outdoor bath.

Out of this 3, only 1 is an outdoor bath, so 2 are indoor baths. The outdoor bath is rather ordinary, but it is after all, slightly better than the other 2 indoor ones. 
However, there isn't a washing area for the outdoor bath, I can't fathom how one is supposed to wash up at the indoor baths and then get dressed, walk across the corridor and bring yourself over to the very separate outdoor bath, which hopefully won't be occupied by someone else by the time you're done washing yourself up first.

And if this isn't bad enough, all 3 baths closes at 10pm. 

Not to worry, I thought, I was told there are other baths within walking distance that are open 24hours. I'm interested to try the public outdoor 24hour bath.
It isn't convenient though, walking in the cold at night, trying to navigate an unfamiliar path, they don't put up a clear sign where the public outdoor bath is located. The first time I tried to find it, some idiot had "kindly" turned off the light at the bathhouse so it was literally pitchblack. I walked passed to and fro without being able to locate it. The 2nd time the light was lit, so I walked in tentatively and aha, found it. It's much nicer, and if you go there midnight or after, I don't think there's a high chance of meeting in anyone else. 
The photos they use on their website of the outdoor baths are from this one. Please take note this bath is not actually linked to their property, you have to walk there. 
It is a drawback, since you may be all warm and toasty from the hotsprings and be chilled again by the time you get back. Didn't help that I was there during the rainy spring season. 

So all in all, there is nothing to recommend this place except to say do avoid it. It looks nothing like the website.

Location: I thought the location would be unique change from the more popular areas... I beg to differ now. Although I did enjoy taking the train most of the time.

Service: Next to nothing. Owner and serving lady is nice, but...they need to be a bit more available.

Food: Nothing great, rather plain and I even paid extra. Enough said. 

Sleep: I pulled out the futons and made my own bed..sad but true lol. (Did they think I actually wanted to do it myself so they didn't offer?? How strange!) 

Hotsprings: The biggest disappointment of all. The baths linked to the property has limited enjoyment because only 1 person can use the outdoor bath at a time and there's no washing area for that. Taking a bath there was sooooooo inconvenient.

A disappointment on many levels

Myself and my husband stayed in the Kishunso for our anniversary. The pictures made it look romantic, however the the pictures must be very old because it looks nothing like this now!
 
The whole place is dirty and run-down, the room was noisy, beds uncomfortable and dirty, mosquito screens did not work, the staff were unhelpful and spoke no English and 'reception' closed early. The 'bar' was just a bottle of wine outside in the dark. The food was ok, but we've lived in Japan for 1 year and have experienced far better. The location is ok if you have a car, but even so we got lost trying to find it, and you have to be back at the hotel before 9pm so no going out in the evening.

Overall the hotel is simply overpriced. If it were half the price you would say "ok it's a budget hotel so you can't expect much". But that fact is, for the same price you can find luxury ryokans with all meals included and a private hot spring bath in your room!

I feel thoroughly ripped off and would never stay here again.
