This is the worst hotel I have ever stay!! The whole building stinks and the room smells like cesspit (combination of smell of toilet and sink). It is near the ICTP guesthouse and for some reason they recommend it to us but you have to STAY AWAY and choose another hotel if you are a visitor of ICTP!! We have to sleep with an open window during November in order to prevent ourselves from vomiting until the third day when we check out!! They forced us to pay for 4 days instead of 2 even if we complained about the room!! It should have been closed for hygienic reasons!!

Stayed one night, for a price that was way to much. 
Faulty things and bohemic standard. (Not good)
Breakfast was included if you want prepackaged things. 😴
The whole hotel and the old timers that runs it feels like there on the last stretch.

Time to retire!

The perfect place for a psychological thriller with a main character like Norman Bates! And that's the only positive thing about this hotel, ideally located in Grignago near Castello di Miramare, five kilometers north of Trieste.

Don't be fooled by the pictures and the proximity to Trieste, the hotel is stuck in the last millennium and vegetates only because of its great location right on the harbor.

The rooms are small and dirty, the breakfast is definitely not to be touched.

Worst Experience

We stayed 2 nights in this small funky hotel that really has a soul. Everything is furnished and decorated with a lot of love. The views are amazing as well as the staff and the owners who were helpful and outgoing. 
The highlight of our stay was food  - you can tell that the produce is bought locally and prepared with lots of attention.

Absolutely lovely ambiente and excellent local food

A nice small hotel ran by a family right next to the main ICTP location and to the Miramare Castle of Maximillian of the Habsburg family (who decided to leave it in 1863 to become the Emperor of Mexico; that didn't end well, as he was shot by a firing squad in 1867, after being captured by the rebels led by Benito Juarez - adding color to an already unusual city that is Trieste). They run the restaurant that is very good too. Very friendly, easy going, the only issue is that it is a bit out of Trieste and so you'd need a cab to get back if you go out late on the town. Still, recommended, since the proprietors make you welcome.

A Nice Boutique Hotel in Grignano

My wife, 2 teenage kids and I have fallen in love with this charming, family run boutique hotel. The owners have a great eye for everything that makes our stay unique and unforgettable, like antique classy furniture and modern art details. Every room is slightly different, most with sea view and a small balcony. If you like something special but affordable, this is your place to stay. It‘s perfectly located by the sea. We will certainly recommend this to our (cooler) friends and will come back. Having lived in Southern California for many years, we are reminded of some cool and hip hotels there. The family that owns the hotel is nice, especially Allan, the owners‘ nephew, has been a great host and has made every moment of our stay wonderful so far. One minor flaw, as we are traveling with teenagers: WiFi only works properly on the lower floors at the moment. But there are plenty beautiful things to do rather than looking at your computer when at Hotel Mignon.

Extremely charming tasteful hotel

We spent 5 nights in this delightful hotel.  It clearly has history on its rough edges, which fits perfectly with it’s eccentric bohemian style.  We had room #1 which gave us ample room for comfort.  The shuttered doors kept the room cool throughout the day.  The terazzo tile helps keep it cool also. The service was spectacular.  Breakfast is in a curio filled room filled with light from arched windows.  The coffee, served by Allen, who seems to do everything, is rich and hot.  Dinner on their terrace while the sun goes down is pretty special.  The menu is limited, but the experience is not.  There are two other restaurants just steps away on the marina.  Both are excellent.  On top of that there is a public swimming area into the sea, and a castle with grounds to peruse to fill your time.  Charming, to say the least. 

Very European experience in a lovely setting. 

My worse restaurant experience in Italy. Stale bread, ordered marinated fish got herring from a can...and it took more than one hour to bring it. Felt sick after this place. Do not go there if you don't want to ruin your travel.
