Perfect place to stay for a great price as it was so close to everything in Pompeii - the ruins, the centre for food and shopping and tour operators/meeting points etc. Property felt clean and safe, and had the all important air conditioning! Balconies offered views of Vesuvius.

Our train was delayed in getting here, and we were not able to make it on time for check in. As a result, they did not let us in for the night, so we had to find a new place to stay, and we never got any money back.

Friendly, comfortable and close to Pompeii.   The added bonus was that breakfast was included and was good.   It was a little cramped with everyone at breakfast at once, but the value was great and everyone made it work, so I would recommend as a good place to stay.

Nice people and good value

This is my second time at Amphitheatrum Gate. I keep coming here because I get all I expect from an accommodation and it is not expensive. This time I had a room with a balcony from which I could see Mount Vesuvius. The room is spacious and clean - the same I can say about the bathroom and the shower pressure is excellent (I mention this because many British hotels struggle with sufficient water pressure in showers). I had a little fridge which was convenient. The property is very close to one of the gates to the Pompeii excavation site (5 minutes walk) and in walkable distance to restaurants (5 minutes), the public bus to Vesuvius (5 min), the town centre (10-15 minutes) and the train station (15 min) that links you with Naples and other towns on the Circumvesuvianum-service. Send a message over the Expedia-link to arrange the time for the check-in so you will meet the owner - he is punctual. --- As the last time three years ago I was very happy and I will definitely be back next time I visit Pompeii.

Room was clean and spacious and built o a high standard. Aircon was quiet and effective. Wifi excellent. Breakfast was generous - all you can eat. Staff went out of their way to help.

Spent a week here as we were fully exploring the ruins of all the nearby sites.  Very close to Pompeii, the square and an excellent choice of restaurants and cafes.  Staff as helpful as they could be (our Italian is not good!).  Room cleaned regularly with clean sheets and towels.  Little balcony with a view of Vesuvius.  Large room and large completely separate bathroom down our private hall so it all felt spacious.  For the price we paid - excellent value.  There are two flights of stairs and no kettle is provided (we bought one for just 15 euros so we could satisfy my husband's need for lots of English tea).  Otherwise, highly recommended.

Great venue to explore Pompeii

Great location for Pompeii ruins...shame no coffee/tea making facilities. Got charged €5 for 2 cofffees the afternoon we arrived when we were just wanting to relax after travelling for hours. Shower hopeless...the shower head needs to be thoroughly cleaned so more than 4 holes are working...also a new toilet seat...oval seats don’t work on square toilet seats.

Great location only a few minutes walk from the ancient ruins and the main square. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Rooms were clean and modern with minibar. View from balcony over surrounding buildings with Vesuvius beyond. Pleasant helpful staff. Beds/pillows not so comfortable and breakfast very basic. Otherwise good value.

Would go Pompei again but maybe stay someone with more facilities it was ok for a long weekend but not if you was staying longer, only saw the hotel staff once during my stay. Hotel was at the top of an apartment block
