Myself and my husband would regularly visit Dunmore East. We would usually stay in the Strand Hotel however this was fully booked so we stayed in the Strand Townhouse over the weekend. I don't want to come across as being negative so I'll keep it short.
It isn't anyway like the pictures that are on the website. Its such a pity because the building itself is lovely. It really could do with a make over. The shower was broken and lacks the basics. Was very disappointed however it is lovely and warm and location is ideal.


Great location !

It's a pity the ratings go from 'average' to 'very good'. I think the Strand Townhouse sits somewhere in between the two. 

We visited Dunmore East for 1 night as part of a road trip on the East Coast of Ireland. The town is stunning- so quaint, lovely beach, lovely people. 

The strand townhouse is located up a hill just a few minutes walk from The Strand Inn (main hotel, bar and restaurant which is perfectly located overlooking the beach and sea). Check in at the Strand Inn was swift, receptionist was very friendly. We then made our way up to the townhouse and parked outside. There's no assigned parking but people tend to park on the street. 

I knew what to expect having read some reviews. It really is just a townhouse with separate bedrooms, which was fine was us just staying one night. I felt a little anxious with no staff or security onsite but it was fine. The room was very small and I think grossly overpriced at €110. The bathroom too was very small and dimly lit, with a mirror so high I couldn't see in! I felt the room could be updated or modernised but it did the job for the night and was very close to the beach. 

Breakfast is back in The Strand hotel. There's a small buffet with cereal, fruit and yogurt and hot food is ordered from a menu at no additional charge. The staff were attentive and friendly and food was very nice. 

We are already looking forward to returning to Dunmore East and I would stay here again- just be prepared for the walk up the hill and don't expect luxury lodgings!

Would rate as 'good' if possible! 

The strand townhouse is located in the gorgeous little village of Dunmore East. It is so picturesque, a great place for a weekend away. The townhouse is a little disappointing. We stayed in room 5. It's a small room, with a frosted glass window overlooking a flat roof and yard out the back. The decor is nice, and the room is clean. But the bed!!!!! It has the worst mattress ever! Almost akin to a hostel mattress, a very thin, uncomfortable mattress. Probably why neither of us had a good sleep. It's bad when you are waiting for morning so that you can get up! Ensuie is small, no window and shower does not drain. Tea and coffee making facilities. The town house needs a bit of tlc. The sitting area downstairs is a complete waste of time. No tv, no books, not even a magazine in sight. Dark and uninviting. The breakfast served a short walk away in the strand inn is fine. Overall too expensive for the standard. It was 220 for 2 nights b & b. I would not stay here again. But for sure I hope to return to the village again. 

Great little village!

We booked the townhouse instead of the Inn by mistake.  You have to register at reception at the Inn and then go up a steep hill to find the townhouse, not great when your back is bad.  Reception staff not very welcoming.  You also have to go back down to the Inn to get your breakfast, not ideal.  The room itself was small but clean.  The breakfast was small but tasty, coffee was good.   Don't think we'll be back.

Not great

I had hoped to stay at the Inn but it was booked so stayed at the Townhouse.   We had two triple rooms, one facing the street and the other facing the back.  The room in the back overlooked a  large full of garbage cans and there was an engine running all night and some sort of construction.  The rooms and bathrooms were small.  The mattresses were horrible and the room needed to be updated.  We were entertained with three baby seagulls living on the roof outside our window.

Disappointing

The best thing about this place was the seating outside the hotel with lovely views.  When we checked in, the receptionist was grumpy and rude. Left us standing there for 10 minute. We booked the townhouse for a couple of days. The place was a dump, decor was awful, straight out of the 1970's, . This place hasn't been decorated in years, The room was tiny, low ceiling over bed and u had to duck your head when getting in and out of bed, bed sheets looked unwashed, there was a smell from carpet, the toilet sounded like a tractor when flushed. The food in the hotel restaurant was awful, inedible, the soup was like tar. Breakfast was adequate, not much choice. Reception was dull and unwelcoming and stuck in a little corner. Very disappointing, no intention of returning. Could be a great spot, needs a lot of work. Overpriced for something so poor.

Short Visit

…. overpriced and very much an annexe to the main hotel.

The shower room badly needs a refurb. The shower itself circa 1980 and sounds like an aircraft taking off.
The flush on the loo temperamental and in need of replacing. No plug for the sink.

Poor quality tea, coffee and biscuits.
The public area smelt of cheap household cleaner.

 I twice phoned reception, as did a colleague and neither of us ever got through to a human.

To end on a positive note the staff in the main hotel were wonderful and a pleasure to interact with.

The room itself was clean. The mattress and sheets good quality and so made the room relatively comfortable.



Overpriced 

I would not recommend staying here at all. Antiquated, small rooms. Dingy bathrooms. No social space. Booked for 2 nights, left after 1. They did not charge us.

It’s unfortunate there is not good accommodation in this lovely village. 

The restaurants are fantastic. Best Seafood in Ireland

Love Dunmore East

The king sized bed was far too big for room 4, as the wardrobe door barely opened enough to get your hand in. The shower could not be regulated, so cooked alive or cold was your option. The toilet made a screeching noise refilling, which lasted for minutes. The furniture was dingy. The mirror in the toilet was too high for an average person. I could hear scratching in the partition wall during the night. The whole building urgently need a complete upgrade. I would not stay in the Town House again. However, breakfast in the Strand Inn was excellent and the staff were first class. I would definately stay in the Strand Inn.
