The house where Vik all began, Owned by a lovely Irish fella named Steve who is an outstanding host full of stories and jokes, with a heart of gold, if you listen long enough you may even learn a thing or two! He even made  lunch for us and offered beer and wine! We got stuck in Vik due to stormy weather spent one night in a horrendous place at the bottom of the hill before relocating to this gem, Steve allowed us to check in early because of the weather and made us feel instantly at home, we sat many an hour listening to his tales and joking around, gave advice on the best places to eat, drove us to the shop in the 70km wind and rain, I could go on and and on about what a fantastic host he was, but I digress!

The house itself is a lovely quaint little house with a whole lot of history, a few minutes walk from the black sand beach and local amenities  , 5 sizeable bedrooms with 2 shared bathrooms, all your kitchen facilities and a laundry room, though this was not originally on our trip plan it turned out to be our favorite place and most comfortable sleep, coffee and tea available, femenin products and even free ear plugs! The house has lots of nice little touches, pictures with meaning, animal pelts and shelves full of books. Rjupa the very friendly husky often stays here, if you leave her alone, she leaves you alone, but she loves attention and if you ask nicely you can even take her on a walk

I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're staying in vik, this is for sure the place you should stay! Just what we needed when Icelands horrizontal rain and snow struck!

A real home from home 

Super recommended guesthouse: super clean, couzy, the manager super friendly and baking a banana cake for the morning... and the dog the best host! :) I would have stayed longer if I had more time, it is really worth it the money

Incredible place, incredible service 

Well located near tourist information office and just a short walk to puffin cliffs . Bedroom very comfortable and shared bathroom clean . Lovely sitting room area and well stocked kitchen where we could cook our own food . Highly recommend.

Delightful and homely !

Pros: Such a cozy, clean place: warm, lots of nice touches like shelves lined with books and knickknacks thereabout, a super comfortable mattress (I was in the “Dungeon” took ironically) and QUIET. Had an amazing 8 hour sleep after 2 terrible nights at Bus Hostel in Reykjavik. The wonderful husky Rjupa made my stay! So loving, well-behaved and fuzzy. Milina (spelling?) was awesome: she baked bread one night so I had some with breakfast the next day with a nice butter/jam/PB spread she set out (though breakfast is not officially included). She’s also great to chat with! Great hot showers and toiletries even provided: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel leftover from last guests. The homestay even provides sanitary products for ladies! WiFi works fantastic once it kicks in: can be a bit niggly in the AM. the property is only a 5-7 minute walk from the black beach, away from where all the rest of the tourists go (you feel like you have the whole beach to yourself). Vik is tiny so it’s easy to walk everywhere within 10 minutes of the property. Towels provided for you as well. The heating worked amazing in the room as well. 

Cons: The cost. Despite all these perks it’s just WAY too much money to spend a night- £150!!!- when you don’t even get breakfast officially provided nor your own private bathroom. There are two bathrooms for five rooms. Also it was a bit annoying the confirmation from Booking.com said towels and linens were extra so I packed some from home, only to find out they ARE provided. I could have saved room in my suitcase had I known otherwise. So despite my overall great experience it’s outrageous the owner justifies having guests pay this much. 

Great place to stay just much too expensive! 

Vik is a strange village - it's very small and it has a remarkable amount of mediocre accommodation which seems more expensive than the capital city. Our room, described as a Standard Twin Room, had two single beds and little else as there was no room for it. A room that size would normally be a single room or in a hostel would have a bunk bed. Our luggage squeezed into the only empty corner. If it was a lot cheaper it would be ok for a one night stay on a road trip but in a country with vast amounts of space it feels odd to be staying somewhere that's more compact than a cheap Hong Kong hotel.

The on-site manager was friendly. There's no breakfast but guests are allowed to use the kitchen. The property has a lot of small maintenance issues outstanding but none that affected our stay.

A well-behaved, quiet dog sometimes lives in the house. She was in residence for our stay.

We were asked to pay in cash as we were told the card payment machine was not working. I think that was the only time I had to use cash in Iceland as it's a very electronic country.
