The Old Apothecary

We only stayed here for one night on our trip around Iceland.  We had an easy self check in and nice spot to park our van.  Our room as spacious and clean.  It was very comfortable and nice bed linens and bath towels.  We had access to a teapot and tea, which was very nice.  Our view was great and we had a short walk to restaurants for dinner and breakfast the next morning.

Room was very nice - the self-check in model takes a little getting used to, as we didn't see anyone else at the property at all - but we found that to be the case with several places we stayed on our trip.  It was on the more expensive side.

We found this to be a pleasant and satisfactory place to spend a night in the charming village of Seydisfjordur.  It's not a hotel in the traditional sense -- no reception desk or room service etc.  It's a self-catering thing.  You get your key from the combination lockbox by the front door (having been given the combination in advance by the management), let yourself in, and you're on your own.  Put the key back into the box when you leave -- no checkout formalities. We never saw or had any contact with any staff person during our stay, which was fine by us.  We tend to be self-sufficient travelers. The bedrooms are large by Icelandic standards, and include a bathroom.  All spotlessly clean and very comfortable.  Location is  convenient and attractive, right by the stream.  For those of us who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing that we like.  For those who need to be taken care of, it might not be.

If you saw the excellent Icelandic mystery series "Trapped" (available on Netflix), some of it was filmed in Seydisfjordur (but most was filmed in Siglufjordur, another lovely fishing village.)

Nice self-service accommodation in a charming little town

It is in the center, close to the river. There are three rooms. We were the only guests there. So it was quite convinient.
The only thing, it was quite loud because you can hear the people walking on the floor above you.
The room was big and the bathroom was ok. Everything old fashioned but on purpose. 
Everything a little bit too much used.
There is no contact with the owner. Everything was handled by mail, there is no breakfast included.
For one night ok.

For one night stay absoluetly sufficient

We arrived around midnight and it took some time to get in because we have to figure out to get the key from key box. It was raining and crazy windy so we're all wet and really freezing.
Good thing is strong water pressure in shower. Bed was nice and firm.  Spacious room.
Unfortunately wifi was unstable. Big deal for us. No hangers, just two coat hooks on the wall. Nowhere to hang bathtowels in the bathroom. It was a problem because we need to dry them to reuse.

One night is OK

We booked 2 rooms for one night, mainly because this accommodation offered private bathroom facilities. Well the beds were comfortable and we had our own showers but apart from that we paid a big price for few facilities. It was entirely self service with keys obtained from a locked combination box and there was no reception at all. Rooms in this old building were large but sparcely furnished. Wifi failed to work on our Australian phone. Permanent residents who occupied rooms at one end of the building and upstairs were disruptive and could be heard moving around during the night. The couple who booked the third room made a terrible noise talking loudly while thumping along the hallway passing our doors at 1:00am to add to the disturbances and wake us again. So overall it was just somewhere to sleep for the night while getting the impression we tourists were being extorted again with overpriced but basic facilities. Somewhat disappointing to be sure.
