First impressions of this hotel are lovely. Location is very central. Beautiful courtyard and pool areas. Feels special. I booked this last minute, as the weather was bad and thought it would be like the previous SLH hotel I stayed in (Liostasi Hotel in Ios, which is faultless).

However, I stayed in room 107 and have to agree with UK Tradewinds about this room, best described as dated, the most redeeming feature is the view of the courtyard. Room does not reflect the rest of the hotel and as others have said most of the pictures of the hotel are from the renovated estate side of the hotel. Breakfast was ok, but I stayed in other places in Crete where it was significantly better.

If you’re staying here, be sure to research which room you book for your requirements. Unfortunately no picture of the bathroom, which needed most updating of the whole maisonette in my personal opinion. It wasn’t until after my stay I checked the Tripadvisor reviews and I was surprised at the overall review rating.

Not quite as expected

Ok room ( we had the standard) - the style in hotel is pretty much as the pictures. Venetian style. Beautiful as you can see.

The standard room was ok, but nothing more. The bed mattress had seen better days, and they had made an attempt to *upgrade* the comfort with a top mattress but boutique hotel means good bed. It was mediocre.

The bathroom was a basic shower niche — but the amenities was ok incl hair conditioning. 

Staff nice as you can expect from every hotel.

However one of the most important features in a any hotel is the breakfast That’s really a signifier and ESPECIALLY in a boutique hotel you’d expect an above standard breakfast with home made / local products, delicacies, barista coffee ( or at least a good espresso) 

The breakfast at Rimondi was not only mediocre, but below mediocre. It was in fact unacceptable - Dry bread / croissants / small *pancakes* taken out of the plastic bag, dry / luke warm eggs ( you know when you overboil the eggs, so you get a green colour when you open it) , a small and tasteless variety of ham/ cheese, plain cereal and the absolute worse: the thinnest bitter coffee ever. 
Talk about disappointment. Talk about not making any effort to make a good experience for your guest. 
Even the presentation was bad and something you could accept from a 2 star tourist class hotel. 

Cheap industrial products, ( even the marmelade which they claimed was homemade. We doubt. kr
nothing fresh, nothing really delicious.. A huge disappointment and way below standard.,
The name “ Luxury Boutique “ does not apply at all here. A boutique hotel is synonymous with home style breakfast with locally produced items, freshly baked bread, local delicacy and some  signature items. And good coffees made for you: espresso, flat white etc 
This breakfast had NONE of these features that you expect from a boutique. 
It was an insult. I’m sorry to say.

Huge disappointment

Where do I start? The hotel is a beautiful old building in the heart of Rethymno - so far, so good.

What lets it down is the decor, and in particular the rooms. Once this was certainly decorated and furnished in a style sympathetic to the building, but it is in desperate need of a facelift.

We booked a Maisonette and upon arrival we were given room 107 which was half the size of the other Maisonettes and looked absolutely nothing like the picture on their website. It was dreadful. It was tiny. Things were broken. Our balcony was tiny compared to next door (same grade). Paint was peeling everywhere. There was mould in the bathroom. In all honesty it was as if the room had been left to rot for decades

We insisted on being moved and miraculously they put us in a standard sized Maisonette, which we should have had initially. It was a lot better but was still less Shabby/Chic but more shabby

Breakfast was a very poor buffet. I won't add more than that

Until my stay we sold this hotel. Not any longer. I would not risk sending any of our clients here. You get the impression it is 5 star. It isn't and at best it is 3 star and a 3 rating is the best it deserves. Spend some money Rimondi

Shabby Chic without the Chic

Our Room was lovely - the service was excellent and the location simply superb. We would certainly return. Surrounded by a huge range of Restaurant choices and a short walk from the water side and beach.

Beautiful Hotel in a Great Location !

Stay in an architectural marvel in the heart of rethymno. Exceptional service, and attention to detail throughout. With unique layout and eclectic design in the rooms, each visit is a unique experience. Refreshing plunge pool and yummy local food!

Charm, character, fun, relaxation

When you look at at their night photo's there appears to be one large hotel, when in fact what you see are two hotels, but not realising it as they are located across a lane way from each other. This confused us when booking & we actually chose a room that did not really suit us.

Both hotels share the same reception & kitchen.

Generally all the staff are very helpful & friendly with the exception of one gentleman on reception was very snappy when asking about the water policy, that being 2 free small bottles during your stay, not to each day like a lot of othe hotels we stayed in during our 13 weeks in Greece.

The one we stayed in is Polazza Rimondi, it has a compact pool in the courtyard where breakfast is served. The other being Rimondi estate.

On arriving we noticed the pool in our hotel looked untidy with leaves in it, during our stay that did not change much except we did see it cleaned on on Occassion, there was also a piece of electrical wire laying across the entry, they could be a little tidier.

The breakfast has a good coverage breads, cakes & pastries, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, whole, diced & sliced. Sliced meats, trout, cheese etc. They have several hot dishes, always scambled eggs, lightly cooked bacon & mini frankfurts, mixed pies. The rotate between baked beans & grilled veggies. I found the baked beans & scrambled eggs nice  and warm but the rest generally cold or Luke warm.

We chose a Duplex Palazzo, obvious now it is a tri level in the Polazzo hotel.
On entry you have a little bar area (good size mini fridge with coffee/ tea glasses etc, the mini bar is also stocked.  The compact bathroom is also on this level.

Down 3 steps, a lounge area with wardrobe & small low table. This is where you stow your clothes.

From the entry you also go up a narrow staircase to the tight bedroom whith an impracticle writing table and stool situated under a stair well, when you stand up you hit your head. There is also a good size balcony overlooking the pool courtyard area. We did not use it as the two aircon motors are situated here, making it noisy & hot due to the heat output of the motors.

We found it uncomfortable going down the stairs at night & also to get changed or dressed.

As we said we just chose the wrong type of room.

Rimondi is two different hotels adjacent to each other

This hotel was somewhat disappointing. Agree with a previous comment that photos are nearly all of the Estate side of the hotel. Room was ok not great . Duplex unsuitable for some people as very steep stairs. Shower leaked, bathroom small.

Breakfast disappointing, hot food was cold, poor selection. An earlier review suggested that you could have breakfast at either hotel but this is not true if you are on the Palazzo side but perfectly acceptable for people on the Estate side to join friends and breakfast on the other side, very unfair. 

Breakfast in the courtyard also made very unpleasant due to the smell of cat urine. At night the cats take over this area. 

There are nicer hotels in the centre of this beautiful old town.

Rimondi Boutique Hotel

I agree that the staff are wonderful, but the breakfast was very disappointing after reading the previous wonderful reviews.  I am not sure but I think in my opinion the guests in the estate side get a better breakfast as I peeked in one morning. We stayed in the palazzo side for 10 days and I can only say that the food and drink were tepid at best.  I did mention this once and the lady offered to go and get me some hot from the estate side. 

We had a good room though, with a walk in shower and a small balcony overlooking the pool and alley.  We did have a problem with the light coming through the balcony because for some reason the curtains didn't close all the way, but we solved this by closing the shutters.

The drinks are of a better quality than the bars, especially the ouzo and you don't pay that much extra plus you get a little snack with them.  Also if you are sitting in the pool areas they always bring a cold glass of water.

The surrounding streets have some wonderful tavernas and bars.  We did try the shops, but it was annoying as most of them wouldn't take cards, they only wanted cash.  It was amazing how many times the internet wad down or the machine was broken!!  Luckily was tavernas take cards.  Our favourite was stavros taverna.

In conclusion, if it wasn't for the breakfast, I would have given them 5 stars, but as I said the staff more than make up for it.



Hmm!!

We were not happy with our stay at this hotel.  We had to climb 3 flights to our room, the room was dark, the bathroom small, and there was a faint smell of sewage every time we came to the room, although it disappeared when we opened the window.  We found it quite depressing for what should be a high class hotel.  The breakfast was also so-so - not up to the standard of other hotels in this category.

Very disappointing hotel

The room in which we stayed in (104) was dated. The room was at ground floor level and the window looked out onto the street.  The bathroom was small and there was constantly an unpleasant smell from the floor drains (which we had to cover with towels).  The room was generally dark and slightly depressing.  There was an upstairs sitting area which was only accessible by steep stairs and a dark outdoor  seating area which we didn't use.  We were told the hotel was fully booked so we didn’t feel it was likely to be moved.

The pool was very cold and could only be described as a plunge pool.  There were no beds to lie around the pool.  There was a slightly larger pool across the road but again limited beds to lie on.  There was a sun deck on the roof but again very small with room for only four sun beds.

On a plus side the room was very clean and the staff very nice. The breakfast was adequate.  The location of the hotel was very good being in the centre of the old town.

We have stayed in much nicer hotels for less.
