Smooth late check in. Room 114 overlooked the road so not much of a view, no problem as only used the room to sleep and wash. Hotel was modern and ideally placed for the beach and restaurants. The pool was an adequate size with steps in which helped.
We ate at the hotel for dinner a few times and the food was lovely, breakfast was okay although we missed it a few times due to a couple of very late nights in the bar across from the hotel.
The sea view rooms are reserved for ‘Private’ guests. The cleaners were superb and kept our room and the hotel nice and tidy. 
A very relaxing holiday, and a hotel we would be more than happy go back to, which is why there are quite a lot of returning guests.
Slight accident in the room, my wife ( it was our honeymoon) got up in the night and hit her head on the light above her bed and broke it ( the light shade that is), guess it used to be a double bed in the past and not 2 singles.
Strange thing is the balcony had nowhere to dry swimming costumes etc?

we stayed here 10 days in June quick check in , George took our cases to our room while we had a free welcome drink our room  looked onto the road which was not a problem the room was clean with a comfy bed good shower and large fridge with icebox that was good for freezing bottled water to drink by the pool, pool area was spotless with comfy mattresses on sunbeds . we had lunch at pool bar  a few times food was good  , breakfast was basic but enough to satisfy . we used moby dicks on the beach for lunch most days had  a few Greek salads  they were good washed down with a few large mythos in frozen glasses tried various restaurants at night best was  Paradosiako Taverna the best feta in filo starter i have had  and a good house red also had sea bass here a couple of times very good place.  if i come back to Alykes i would certainly stay at the Ionian Star again a big thank you to George and his hard working staff especially Karen who has a great sense of humour.

lovely hotel

Had a week at the Ionian Star with family. We had roadside rooms but with the doors shut and aircon on sleep mode there was minimal noise. Aircon was an extra 7e per day which was fine by me. Room was great, a decent size with good bathroom and a fridge too.
Breakfast, as all the other reviews say, is basic, but we were happy with it. Would be good to see some variety from day to day though.
Pool area was really good, no real need to put towels on sunbeds but most people did, there were enough to satisfy everyone.
Very close to a great beach and very clear sea.
Also countless great restaurants close by to the hotel and a few good bars too.
Would definitely go back to Alykes and would stay here again. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I called a few weeks before our holiday to ask for rooms next to each other and they accommodated this for us.

Great hotel and location

Had a wonderful holiday at the Ionian Star. The place is immaculately clean and the staff are lovely. We were there for 3 weeks and were lucky to have a sea view room with an amazing view. The room had a large fridge with an icebox, a kettle, teaspoons, mugs and glasses. The shower was fairly powerful (for Greece) and towels/bedding was changed frequently. We were very comfortable in the bed and pleased the room had a netted door which meant we could sleep with the window open. Listening to the waves and didn’t need to get Aircon.  Breakfast was the same everyday but good quality and several choices. Cereals, Breads, a toaster, cake, lovely yogurt, peaches, honey, yogurt, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, jam, marmalade. We enjoyed our breakfast. A lovely setting to eat or have a drink. We ate there twice on an evening it was excellent. The pool is lovely, the sun beds are very comfortable and it’s a stones throw from the beach.  Lots of lovely restaurants on the door steep. We met some lovely people and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back. 

Ticks all our boxes

My wife and I went to the Ionian Star Hotel at the end of September, we found the hotel  perfect for our needs, it was very well placed at the beginning of the resort of Alykes with the beach right on our doorstep. The hotel itself was very modern and commanded a prime position with everything in the resort  within easy access. The family that owned the hotel and their staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. There were quite a few guests who use the hotel regularly so I think that speaks volumes.

A very relaxing holiday at the Ionian Star

We recently stayed 10 days at Ionian Star (family of 4, boys 15 & 18).  The Hotel is a clean, well laid out, no frills hotel, with good basic breakfast. There is a supermarket next door. The location is fantastic, being less than a minute walk to the beach in either direction. Alykanas beach is over the small bridge over the river that differentiates two resort's beaches. Cross the bridge and head for Costa's Bar to find the start of the Alykanas beach.Don't be put off by the rustic appearance of Costa's bar. It offers great value for being on the water's edge, so spending time on his sunbeds feels like you could be in the Caribbean!
The pool area (padded sunbeds), and outdoor covered terraces are all spacious with nice outlooks towards the ocean, though we hardly spent any time here as we were on the beach mainly - where there is a refreshing sea breeze coming from the north. The pool area is sheltered, so is a fabulous sun trap and has shallow pool areas for young children.
The beach bars and (behind them) the street bars of Alykes start 30 seconds away and it is only a short walk (7-8 mins) to  Alykanas centre which offers something similar yet different. Last time we stayed at Letsos in Alykanas - but on balance we preferred being in Alykes - though we must HIGHLY recommend  Berekis taverna / gyros in Alykanas which is another fantastic family run eatery.
George (the owner of Ionian Star), who has worked in this family owned hotel since 1979, is a lovely, very laid back chap who speaks fluent English and Greek. He generally leaves guests to it, to simply enjoy their holiday... but was very helpful when we needed his assistance for air conditioning and very friendly when we had a drink with him  in the hotel bar on our last night . 
Two very friendly ladies keep the hotel immaculate and were always very cheerful at breakfast or for lunch snacks. At breakfast, if anything runs out, simply ask them for more! The yoghurt is a proper traditional Greek variety and delicious with peaches, honey or bran flakes... or all with three!
Our rooms were at the front of the hotel on the road, 224 & 225. Both were very decent sized hotel rooms with excellent bathrooms, hot powerful showers. The beds were very comfy and both rooms had a good sized, quiet fridge. The drainage of the 'wet room design'  (meaning no shower curtain)  isn't perfect, but if you ask for an extra bath mat (to soak up the spray) that problem is easily solved. 
The balcony has all you would expect and there are black-out curtains & mosquito nets.Even though the weather was really hot, the room was almost cool enough to sleep in at night with just the insect screen across and without air con, but the triple glazing with the aircon on makes the room really quiet and cool, so we opted to pay the extra. The hotel always felt safe & secure.
Alykes and Alykanas are quiet resorts with beaches that offer different experiences as you walk their lengths. The sea is shallow and warm with mainly an onshore wind and both have a great collection of eating and drinking places. The staff at Buca Bar were very friendly, but there are more beach bars than you have time to explore! Have a chat to Kevin who rents SUPs on the beach in front of Buca. Anything you need to know, he will know the answer! 
If you want to hire a boat, see George at Valais Watersport (orange sun loungers in Alykanas) as their service is the most professional for hiring a boat on your own which we did twice.

Great location, nice hotel

It was a hotel exactly as it was described, clean, friendly, no frills, basic breakfast AND  less than a minute’s walk to a beach and a clear and calm sea, which in our books is a major plus. Sparkling swimming pool, which we didn’t use. Two extremely friendly ladies who kept the hotel immaculate. Although the hotel is surrounded by tavernas and bars it is quiet and peaceful. 

It is what it says it is

Had a lovely week at the Ionian Star. George and his staff really looked after us. As others have said location is second to none, right on the beach and near to all the restaurants and bars. There is even a supermarket next door. 

Pool area is very nice (padded sunbeds) and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. Bar area is nice and chill and you get a lovely continental breakfast each morning. Our room was clean, large and comfortable. Decent bathroom and comfy bed. Good sized fridge in room. Air conditioning was very good (paid extra) and lovely big balcony. We faced the road side of the building but noise wasn’t a problem. 

Alykes is a quiet resort with a lovely beach and a great collection of eating and drinking places. Highly recommended.

Super chill week away

I have just returned from a beautiful holiday in Alykes staying at the Ionian Star Hotel
This is a lovely family run hotel the staff are very pleasant and helpful nothing is too much trouble
The hotel is typically Greek and is very clean. The rooms have a good sized fridge and are equipped with everything you need
There is a lovely fresh breakfast in the morning but a cooked breakfast can be done on request additional  Payment may be required
There is also a nice bar and terrace and 
a beautiful pool but the beach is a minute away and is very safe as you can go out a long way before it gets even waste deep
I would say Alykes is a resort village suitable for mature couples and families but there are lots of lovely restaurants and bars if that's what you want
Highly recommended

What can I say sorry to be going home but back sept amazing location  2 mins from beautiful beach 2 mins from taverns room lovely breakfast good thanks to George nothing too much trouble Rosa at breakfast and Karen on drinks see you soon
