My partner and I stayed here one night for a wedding reception nearby and we were staying in the Falasarna area, too far to drive after partying! The Cloudberry was a perfect choice. We reserved online and arrived a bit early but the delightful owners, Anna and Ulf, were happy to let us check-in. 

Our unit was perfectly comfortable and ideal for our needs. Before we departed for the wedding, we sat on the lawn in one of the chaise lounges, taking in the amazing view of Kalyves Beach, Souda Bay and the surrounding terrain. What a location! 

Situated on a steep hill, the dazzling white building kind of said 'Cool Inside' to us on this super-hot day! And COOL it was! There is convenient free parking 500 feet away, a nice perk. From our unit, we had a delightful view; the beds were super comfortable and there is a small efficient kitchenette and spotless bathroom with overhead shower that was very nice! 

We were not there that long, about 21 hours, but it was peaceful and serene, we had a good night's rest and an enjoyable time here.

Highly recommend this heavenly spot with super sweet and friendly owners, a Garden of Eden-like setting high above the cerulean sea. 

AN OASIS of CALM with GORGEOUS VIEWS

The location is good for views, but not for easy access, or for people with mild to severe mobility. 
 
The quoted 'meters to the beach' is slightly misleading, as this involves walking down mildly hazardous steps, across a gravel car park, and down an incline it's not simply a matter of crossing the road!  

The uphill journey is really challenging, especially in the heat, or after a heavy meal. It would be quite dangerous at night as there is no lighting. The alternative to the shortcut is also an uphill struggle via the residential street. 
You really must consider this if you have any mobility issues whatsoever. 

The accommodation is nice and minimalistic, it has everything you need; probably more than you need in the kitchen area. The beds are soft and cozy, with plenty of storage, and some really nice touches. It's safe and secure and lone females would feel perfectly comfortable here.

The views are definitely stunning, and it's a peaceful and calm environment.

Personally, I wasn't 'that' impressed with the cleanliness. It was only OK. Although beds were freshened up daily, the bathroom sink area had the same marks on it for days, and the loo wasn't properly cleaned. Not sure why clean towels were removed, and I was left with the same bath towel for 3 days!
(I'm probably more nit-picky than some people as I'm a past Airbnb super host, so I know what to look for.... sorry!)

The owners were conspicuous by their absence, I saw them briefly 3 times in 7 days, and the reception area is completely deserted all the time, with a 'contact number' but it felt like the Marie Celeste. Just nobody around. It just kind of felt left to manage itself. 

Maybe the ethos is to be non-intrusive, but I've never stayed in a place before where the owners did NOT come out and say Goodbye and thanks for coming. Very odd. 

Overall it was only OK, I wouldn't go back, but others go back year after year, perhaps their experience was better than mine. 



Location is great for views, but not for access or mobility.

Beautifully decorated & very well designed studios.  The views across the town & bay were amazing from our ground floor terrace & the gardens are lovely.  Very helpful owners.  Only drawback is the elevated location which we found a bit challenging as my husband & I have some mobility problems. We found the shortcut to the beach & tavernas a bit difficult but still managed it & used alternative route in the dark.  All the other guests at the apartments had no problems & if you are reasonably fit the location with its views is a definite bonus. So happy we chose Cloudberry for our 5 night stay in Kalyves.

Fabulous stay at Cloudberry

Very nice hotel and amazing views. Clean room and very comfortable bed. The beach was great and clean. We did always eat at the restaurant on the beach and never cook in the kitchen. We always walked  to the beach and it took us we  about 3-5 minutes

Great location and the views was amazing from the balcony.

We had a wonderful time in Kalyves and Cloudberry was excellent in every way. The owners are wonderful, the location is beautiful and the apartments are well spaced out and clean. Loved our time in Kalyves and would return to Cloudberry!

A good base for Western Crete.

This is the second time we have spent our holiday in Cloudberry. And for sure we will be back again. Cloudberry is a wonderful and truly relaxing place in Kalyves. 
Anna and Ulf are the perfect hosts. Friendly, serviceminded in a discreet and relaxed manner. 
The hotel is small and intimate. Rooms are very clean, fresh and bright reflecting a Scandinavian style with a mediterrean twist. Beds are Nice and soft, kitchen well-equipped and bathroom clean and nice. 
Nice location close to the beach, town and everything you need. 
Really refreshing to see such a nice hotel/apartment in Greece. Will definetely recommend this place anytime.

A small paradise in Kalyves

My husband & I have stayed here in September 2019 & 2020 in the 2 bed apartment, the first year was so good that we came back a second year.  Last year Ulf and Anna had updated the 2 bed apartment which was a lovely surprise when we arrived as the balcony had been opened up and the kitchen fully modernised.  I must say that all the apts studio’s are lovely decorated in a Scandinavian style.  Anna & Ulf are so friendly and can’t do enough for you.  Last year I had a massage as they have a small area at the side of the apartments to accommodate, the masseuse is the lovely Chinese lady who does massages on the beach, it was very relaxing.  Further we came to Kalyves many years ago when our girls were small and the place has hardly changed at all! Both our girls (24 & 28) have been with us the past couple of years but not this year as we have booked just for the 1 bed apt. Majority of restaurants are very much the same but our favourites are Il Forno, Stella's Meze Bar, Simon's & Gyrothalassia. Also the cocktail bar Kohili beach bar and Minstrali are also very good. We are so looking forward to our return🥰

Beautiful Apartments and wonderful host’s🥰

I dont really want to write this, we think we have found something very special and dont really want to share it, but that would not be fair on our lovely hosts, so here goes.
We have been coming to the village for many years, Kalyves is a beautiful little village with very lovely people. We have stayed in a number of different apartments some lovely some not so good but the Cloudberry Apartments are something else. Spotlessly clean, very modern, air conditioned, amazing views over the bay but what finishes this off is the wet room with an amazing shower, for those of you familiar with crete, you will know these are like hens teeth. We are not yet half way through our holiday but I had to write this now. We will definitely booking again for next year x

Absolutley wonderful!!

These apartments take group bookings who the owners allow to congregate at all hours on the small lawn in front of the apartments. Their publicity photos don’t show it, but there was a large trestle table on the lawn right in front of (and just below) our first-floor apartment where a large group would socialise, drink and take meals.  Inevitably there was a lot of noise, plus we felt awkward and uncomfortable using our balcony a lot of the time as we were so close to the group, virtually on top of them so to speak. 
Unlike other similar places in Kalyves they do not have a “quiet hours” policy.  The worst example was the day the owners organised an all-day/all-night private party on the lawn right in front of our room to which we were not invited. We made ourselves scarce for most of the day and evening, but the noisy festivities went on until the small hours of the following morning. Next morning, we had to walk past their empty beer cans, drinks bottles and unemptied ashtrays on the way to the beach! 
Just to make matters worse the owners would also do noisy building works (hammer drilling right above our heads) without any warning.  So inconsiderate. 
There were other irritations such as the noise of furniture scraping and doors slamming from the owners’ apartment above us (the building does not have good sound insulation), sheets and towels not changed for the whole of our 8-day stay, a bag of soiled toilet paper left in the corridor all day and evening, and promises of printed bus timetables just forgotten about. 
The only things we can say in favour of Cloudberry is that the apartments are recently renovated and tastefully decorated with great views on the seaward side.
We stayed here for a couple of days last year just after they had re-opened, when it lived up to its promise of providing a “relaxing atmosphere inspired by nature”.  It’s such a shame that these standards now seem to have to slipped.  In fairness, when we complained, the owners apologised and gave us a free breakfast.  They also offered a small partial refund, but we refused it as derisory bearing in mind that almost every day of our stay had been spoiled by the noise and their lack of consideration.
