Hotel Strauss

We were booked into the Hotel Strauss for 3 nights (Mon, Tues & Wed), the rooms being booked by a third party at late notice. Having flown from the UK into Frankfurt, the hotel was an 80 min drive along the autobahn for me, before a 10 min countryside run into Waldbronn. I arrived circa 2100hrs, and was surprised to find the hotel in darkness, not something I am personally used to, however a call to the proprietor Ahamed and I was shown to my room in a little over 10mins. The hotel is more of a cross between a hostel and a small apartment block, with no evidence of clientele movement as would normally be expected in a regular hotel, which was particularly beneficial given the long journey and need for rest. The rooms are basic but clean, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The room had a small table and lounge chair, small TV and a clean bathroom with shower cubicle. One aspect which was especially welcome was the endless supply of hot water, and a shower head which provided strong massaging relief at the end of a busy day. The hotel room key is attached to a second key, permitting 24hr access to the hotel, whilst retaining a level of security at all times. Breakfast is Continental if little limited, but personal requirements are catered for by an ever present proprietor. What earned this establishment a high rating however, was not the accommodation itself, nor the location, but the generous and helpful demeanour of its owner. We had arrived to undertake electrical work in a nearby factory, and given that Waldbronn itself is a ‘sleepy village’ in the German countryside, there was little opportunity to purchase consumables, leaving us with a dilemma. We need not have worried, since having conveyed our plight to Ahamed, he responded by offering access to his own equipment and stores, thereby resolving our problem in an instant. This is a gentleman from Eritrea who only acquired the hotel in November 2013, but what he lacks in experience is more than compensated for by his enthusiasm and attention to personal needs!
