The Grand Makadi

This was out second time at the Grand Makadi Hotel. The first one was for New Years 2023-2024. It will not be our last visit. The hotel staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating, and cannot do enough for you. They are always open for a quick chat about Egypt or life in general, and make you feel very welcome. Housekeeping was outstanding with the most amazing towel creations I've ever seen. The food is average for Egypt all inclusive standards. With that said, we could see a definite improvement between our first visit and our second visit in quality and taste, with there coming a little more spice into the food instead of it all tasting very bland. The hotel itself is older, but again, between out first and second visit, we could see many improvements - including repairs and upgrades in the terrace areas around the pool, new sun umbrellas and wind shades, etc. It is clear the hotel is working hard to remain attractive to European tourists. For us, we chose the hotel first and foremost for the access to the reef. We have snorkeled around the world, but the Red Sea is where we keep returning to, and the house reef, with opportunities to both snorkel in the shallows (at high tide) and to drift snorkel along the long reef is one of the best. The hotel lifeguards keep focus on ensuring people do not damage the reef and respect the buoyed areas. The life and colors on the reef drop off are amazing, and the resident 2.5 meter long moray eel is absolutely amazing to behold. Don't forget to visit the spa. it is brand new in 2025, and is an extremely clean and modern facility, with talented staff. Gigi and Fatima are among the best massage therapists you can find.
