Shaman Lodge

The Shaman lodge is situated at the border of the Amazone Forest, overlooking the river. This gives nice views but is also very relaxing. An afternoon in the hammock is a wonderful way to enjoy the landscape with all creatures great and small. Owner Freddy gave us a warm welcome. He works with several members of the indigenous community to offer the tourists a wonderful stay. Canoeing and swimming in the river. A guided tour in the forest. A visit of the garden with fresh fruit and vegetables. We planted trees to support the local communities, wonder how big they will be by the time we return. There were few guests when we were there. At that time it was a place for relaxation (no internet!), ideal for reading, yoga, meditation, close to nature but with comfort. But I can imagine that it can be fun with children too. Or for team building activities.There is a pool and lots of things to explore. The lodges are basic cottages equipped with good beds (good mattresses!) and mosquito nets at the windows. Each one of them has a small bathroom with shower. We stayed in a family room with space for 6. Being there with 6 people would require some organisation with respect to using the bathroom and putting the bags, but it had a nice view on the river. There are more spacious cottages that just have been constructed but they have the garden view. This is a full board location. We had our meals in the main building, a large wooden cottage. The diverse local dishes, prepared by indigenous cooks, were very tasty. Nice juices too. We went on a hike with a local guide, Spanish speaking. He showed us different ways of trapping used by the indigenous years ago. Interesting. We saw a giant 500-year old tree, that was really the highlight of the walk. It had something spiritual even. We were totally impressed. Freddy is constantly looking for ways to make you feel comfortable and discover and appreciate local life . This was for us a nice way to get in touch with the indigenous culture far away from the typical markets.
