The ocean side is also where most of the airconditioned rooms were. The older part of the hotel survived the earthquake. We have stayed in both parts of the hotel. It is a pleasant place. I am not sure if they are open.

An extraordinary visit with the best service! Lovely beach views over the Pacific Ocean, the rising and setting sun. The terrace area on the second floor has so much charm inviting you to read,  play a game of solitaire or laugh with friends!  The decor of the hotel is divine.  The restaurant serves delicious ceviches, with plantains of all sorts and wait until you taste the rice dishes, fresh fish, shrimp, octopus and squid. Breakfasts are good too with the view to the ocean. The rooms offer essential comfort and cleanliness.
WiFi is available so you are always connected.
We return to the hotel La Herradura yearly and look forward to the visit with such warm reception from the administration and staff.

We arrived at 1 AM without reservations, but with the recommendation of a local who  kindly helped us find a value proposition with the three-floor La Herradura.   We were graciously received by night staff and the distinguished looking Senor Miguel Angel Viteri Milinari, Proprietor.  We were appreciative of the lovely (for us) basic, furnished white room with unique lampshades. It was unaffected by street sounds night and day.  The beach view from our room was astounding, but it is advisable to ask for one of these.  The bathroom was clean. and towels were large, soft and plush.  My husband appreciated the rare event of finding a bright light for shaving over the bathroom mirror.  The hotel decor along with pictures, paintings, and artifacts tell the remarkable story of Miguel Angel's family from bygone eras.  Wherever you look your eyes are delighted by another treasure from the past.  We had the privilege of having Miguel Angel explain the history behind many of the pieces.  It was delightful.  

The morning of our departure, we had waiting for us a bicycle taxi to the intercity buses.  We look forward to returning. A remarkable hotel if you appreciate one of significant character linked to a rightfully proud owner of gracious hospitality.  We dearly thank and appreciate you Senor Miguel Angel.

Basic room with great beach view in a hotel of extraordinary character

La Herradura is a unique, quaint, well established, ocean-side hotel, filled with significant character,  charm, and rich ambiance.  One of the best patios from which to enjoy a spectacular sunsets over a cocktail.  

The proprietor Miguel Angel Viteri proudly showcases the region's and his family history with an extensive collection of treasures, paintings, antiques, and artifacts throughout.  A traditional restaurant serving  good fare  also enjoys  rich decor and music for ambiance.     A wide variety of comfortable rooms are available several with ocean view balconies.

As Bahia has very few visitors other than during local holidays this can reflect in a rather deserted  quiet facility, weaker service levels, and product shortages.  La Herradura is one of our favorite places to stay, represents excellent value and we will go back !

Quaint Oceanside Hotel full of Character & Charm

La Piedra Hotel is across the street and it three times the cost to stay there. Granted it is a slightly more modern and better kept hotel, but 3X the price. Stay at La Herradura and have a great lunch and dinner with the money you save. The people are very nice and helpful, wifi was limited to a common area.

The boys at the hotel are very nice and helpful but they seem to be interested in surfing the web more than working at the hotel.
