Agapi

We stayed in Agapi hotel for about 10 days more than ten years ago. We enjoyed our stay very much and we have very fond memories, of the great hospitality of the owners, Tasos and Cecilia, and of the place itself. Room was clean and spacious, location was superb, very close to the sea and city centre. We still remember of the platypus that was roaming in the trees near the hotel!

We saw an advertisement for a pool party and went to see.  We were very impressed with the beauty of the garden walkways landscaping and the tall trees,  The area was well attended by several staff members and the Mojito was excellent. Signs saying "drug free" and "no smoking" and "you are being video recorded" all added to the sense of security in this tourist area known for some crime.  Well behaved dogs and children were at the pool.  Prices seemed reasonable for the beverages and they are self described as an upscale hostel!

-Had a great time in here. Rooms are very comfortable
-It is right in the sand and 600mts from Puerto Viejo downtown. You can go bycycling.
-They include the breakfast, which is national food and buffet style, so you can eat a lot. They don't offer meal or dinner.
-Pool is big enough and fun, with a coupe of Jacuzzis next to it.
-Big and Save Parking.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel.  First night was fully booked so had a small extremely basic room - but rate was negotiable.  Next 2 nights - upgraded to a second level apartment size suite - all wood - teak top to bottom - big - great view of the ocean and wonderful patio.  Breakfast is included and was excellent.

Originally gave it 3.5 stars but I am forced to downgrade. The location is still great, of course. And the breakfast is good. But the pool is dirty, cloudy. I was looking forward to taking a dip in the pool after walking around in the heat, but no. If you don't care about the pool, Agapi is a good basic hotel with AC, wifi, breakfast, and beach.

This hotel was terrible, the first night we arrived we were shocked at the bare conditions of the room that we were sleeping in. The sheets on the beds  was very thin and they smelled as if someone had been sleeping on them already.  They were not fresh at all!!!. The bathroom had  this humongous dirty and dingy bath tub with a unremoveable ring in it. The bathroom stayed hot at all times because the window in the there was broken and could not be closed. The monkies made loud noises all night.  The kitchen where we had planned to cook was on the outside ,we had to eat out everyday because it was too hot to cooking in there. After the second night, we couldn't stand it  any more, we demanded our money back. The owner charged 180.00 dollars per night, for a room that only suppose to cost 69.00 a night. The owner is not a very nice person, especially when you demand a refund. My advice to anybody,  make sure he emails a confirmation or something to when he quotes the price to you, he did not want to honor the confirmation that was printed out from tripadvisor. Very nasty man!!!!!
