The location is great.  In the middle of the hart of the old town.  The accommodation is not that great.  Very small rooms.  Even no place to open your suitcase in a decent way.  The room is not very clean.  The bathroom is not at all clean.  The WiFi is so so.   Not a place to stay long time.  

Simple guesthouse 

When you want to have a really original experience of China of old, please stay in this hotel. The beds are stone slabs, your room is approximately 9 square meters, the courtyard is full of nice Chinese guests and you will not get any sleep because your back hurts. Breakfast is great if you love Chinese breakfast.

Real Chinese Guesthouse

Stayed only one night in this boutique hotel. Fabulous old fashioned household set up. Easterly rooms were for the girls, western side for the boys and grandparents in the north section. Stayed in the north section furthest from the street noise so lovely and quiet. Room was large with a shower furthest from the toilet so able to shower without sitting on the toilet! Unlike some of the other tourists in our party. Bathroom is consequently soaked for the rest of the night though. The bed is a traditional type therefore very hard but ours was huge. Lots of knickknacks around the room so authentic but cluttered. Looked at a lot of the rooms as 27 in our group. Ours was the better. 
Breakfast was very limited. Toast in a pile on a shared table. Bread has only glanced at the toaster so was still bread! Some thick pancakes offered one with apple one with banana and one with chocolate. These were to be shared between 9. Left hungry and thirsty as no juice available and the coffee was bad. 
The central courtyard area is a sociable place. We drank our own bottle of wine bought elsewhere and bought some beer from the hotel at 15 Yuan whereas available at 10 Yuan outside the hotel. 
Very conveniently placed for the market, shops and restaurants inside Ping Yao city walls. Lovely one off experience but would not spend more than 1 night here

Pros:
1) Decent WiFi signal
2) good location

Cons
1) Staff were indifferent until there's opportunity to make $$$
2) Didn't even bother to eat there when there are so many food around
3) Room was small, bathroom even smaller
4) Bed linen was old and not very clean
5) Toilet doesn't flush, toilet paper ran out and was never replaced
6) Complimentary toiletries were low quality and were given in the form of McD ketchup packet, the tooth brush bristle fell apart after 2 brushes
7) Courtyard bathrooms are squatting type with no doors
8) Some may find the bed hard, I'm OK with it.

Location is the only reason to stay here

When you get there, impossible to find the "hotel" (beware: it's a hostel). The street number doesn't match and the name is not obvious nor consistent --it's misspelled in several ways. Then, our room wasn't ready, at 10:00pm!! We had to wait. The staff is said to be English speaking but they're not! The room was small, no window, some unsafe sliding door to keep us from the nonstop surrounding noise. The bathroom is all in one: you shower on the toilet --literally. Air conditioning water residue leaks from a tube in the bathroom. No water pressure from the tap (which doubles as a shower). On the second day, no more water. Rooms are npt cleaned. Towels are not changed. This was just a nightmare. Plus, the staff tries to cheat you where possible, for instance when buying water: sometimes 2, sometimes 3 yuan. Terrible. Just terrible. I wouldn't advice anyone going there, even if on a budget. There are definitely better hostels out there. 

This is like hell!!!

This hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Pingyao. The Rooms are a small although well appointed, if there is no much room for luggage. The courtyard is beautiful and servers s a dinning area for the restaurant. The rooms can do with some TLC and the beds are the thin mattress type (which I find comfortable but it's not everybody's fav). I was most impressed with how quiet and peaceful the hotel is (even when it was busy) and the fact that the staff asks you politely when the room should be cleaned and what you need. Very pleasant experience in a gorgeous place.
