Our hosts were very welcoming and accommodating - we had a stay booked in the Jacques Cartier park in the middle of our stay in L'autre Auberge and they allowed us to leave our bags with them during our visit (to clarify, we didn't ask, they offered!).  The place is set up very well in that the host family live on the ground floor so that everyone can go about their day independently but you are close enough to get in touch if you need to!  Bedroom was spacious and comfortable.  The place was very clean and had a relaxed, homely feel.  Breakfast was lovely freshly-cut bread with preserves etc.  I think there were other things on offer too (cereal, yoghurt I think - we stayed back in September!) but the bread was so yummy.  We were shown a path that would take us to town - lovely walk in the sunlight, perhaps not so much on a dark day.  I think it took us about 45 minutes.  There is a bus stop just a few minutes down the road if you don't fancy the walk.  We didn't go out much nearby as the surrounding area looks very residential (and there are lots of restaurants in town).  There is a shop (newsagent) just across the road if you need it.  Hosts had great recommendations for things to do and were great to chat with over breakfast.  Would definitely stay there again.  One criticism - it was hard to spot from the road - see the pictures of the front of the place and you will know what I mean.  Also bear in mind that there are stairs up to the front door (luggage!).  Overall great value for money.

Lovely friendly hosts, pleasant walk from the city centre

L'autre Auberge feels like your first post-college apartment, only much more tastefully decorated. Yes, you have to walk up an outdoor stairway to get to the room, and the bath is down the hall - but the owners are cheerful, and happy to share intriguing facts about the city (and tolerate rusty French!) The breakfast is tasty--fruit, locally made breads and jam--and there's a bus to downtown that stops a block away, and plenty of restaurants within a five-minute walk. We chose it because it was the most economical option for five people, but it was a highlight of our trip.

Charming owners, affordable for families

We stayed again at the best B&B in Quebec City. It's name is l'autre auberge (www.lautreauberge.com). It was great in the winter and fabulous in the summer.  There are four bedrooms on two floors with two baths, two kitchens, and two living rooms. The rooms are all very clean and decorated with an Asian contemporary look which is very soothing. The beds and sheets are super. The location is great as the bus to downtown comes every 15 minutes or so and brings you right to downtown in 10 minutes. You can park on the street in front of the B&B with no problem and there aren't any parking meters. There are fabulous bakeries and restaurants right in the neighborhood. The best part of the experience are the owners, Louise and Christian. They are so welcoming and are the perfect hosts. They make a lovely breakfast with 4 types of fresh bread and lots of other things. There is a big bowl of fruit on the table for whenever you want. We often stay at big hotels when I travel but when in Quebec City - I recommend meeting the people and staying at this very affordable B&B.  Perfect for all ages.

Best B&B in Quebec City

Christian and Lousie are fabulous.  This alternative hostel is like a very large B&B.  There was a kitchen upstairs we could have used.  A fabulous breakfast with 3 types of fresh bread and other fun foods was fantastic.  It was fabulous to come home in the evening and find a big bowl of fruit on the table.  The beds were soft, the pillows perfect.  You could adjust the temperature of the heat in each room.  The neighborhood was great.  The bus to downtown stopped in front ot the house.  The bus took about 10 minutes at the most.  I highly recommend this for all ages.  We had a 15 year old, a 28 year old and a 52 year old and all loved it.  And........these guys are certified massage therapists and had The best and most affordable massages ever.  Thanks so much.
