Charming, restful, nature-filled, quiet, delicious breakfasts ... WONDERFUL!! --- We stayed for 2 nights at Gilbert's gîte -- what a heavenly spot in Mont Laurier!! We recommend without hesitation, and will be back next time for the town's annual summertime festival. Cozy room, comfortable bed & pillows, private outdoor terrace overlooking the fabulous natural gardens on the shores of the river (Note: the sound of the waterfall is constant, day & night, which we LOVED!). Gilbert is a soft-spoken, welcoming, respectful, well-travelled & interesting host -- he and his lovely daughter prepare wonderfully delicious breakfasts ... what a treat it was to stay with them! We highly recommend la Gîte au Pied du Courant!

Beautiful gite, delicious fruit and yogourt breakfast. Huge room, garden views, FAB! Lovely garden. Beach for dip in river 5 minutes away by foot. Haven of peace and good taste in the grotty town of Mont Laurier.

The owner thinks he is rather superior, but it's absolutely worth putting up with him for the fabulous place that he has.

The other thing is that you pay the gite by transfer using email, which is how things are done in Canada. If you can't do that, then you'll have to take out cash at possibly a 4% charge.  To avoid that you could do a transfer before going, if you can get the bank details out of him - we couldn't.

Be prepared to pay cash if you are a foreigner

I was sitting on the balcony feeling the sun, listening to the current, smelling the wood stove and hit a level of relaxation that is so rare.  This is a really interesting place to stay.  Gilbert is an intriguing host.  An artist, traveller, good cook (delicious French toast, fruit and yogurt for breakfast), entertaining conversationalist, he has developed this gite in a personalized, thoughtful and stylish manner.  The rooms are private and very comfortable, each with a balcony or patio.  The open areas are full of interesting souvenirs from Africa and his paintings, and very comfortably arranged with seating areas, a wood stove, games and books.  Gilbert speaks English but we chose to practice our French and he was most obliging.  The town is rural Quebec with delightful local restaurants (not high end, but good fare) and lots of walking opportunities.  This is also a good place for biking.  Highly recommend this town and the gite, it was a lovely experience.

A relaxing, interesting, enjoyable experience

This is a wonderful place to stay right on the falls in Mont Laurier. The owner, Gilbert is a great host, and has built and furnished this place in a creative and artistic style. We had our own balcony onto the river side where we were able to have a beautiful fall dinner with food we brought from town.  The breakfast is lovely and delicious. You also have access to different rooms and decks and the garden, as well as the use of many of the interesting books. We had a great room, clean and airy!
We recommend this place for travellers who value culture and nature and want something more than a generic hotel or motel.

Unique gem on P'tit Train du Nord

We loved the beautiful gardens and lovely fresh-airy room.  The bed was confortable and the shower hot and strong.  The breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious.  We will recommend it to all our friends travelling north.

Beautiful Oasis in the North

We stayed here for one night in June 2017, after finishing the Petit Train du Nord in Mont Laurier. Host was very welcoming and room very clean and comfortable with a nice terrace overlooking the river. This is somebody's home so the decor is very quirky and fits his taste - it might not be what we would choose, but it made the place feel homely and you have to respect his choices. There are restaurants and bars within walking distance. A good breakfast is served at a communal table with the other guests. Would definitely recommend this place!

A nice place!

This B&B is managed by only one man, the owner of the place.  He is French Canadian and so am I, but my husband is American and does not speak French. When we got to the B&B, I said the first few sentences in French to be polite and then my husband shook his hands. My husband spoke English and it was made very clear in the beginning of the conversation that he did not understand French.  The owner even made a surprised comment about my husband not understanding French and continued speaking thereafter... in English! Despite this, and despite 2-3 attempts on my part to ask questions in English so that he would switch languages, the owner deliberately continued speaking French while showing us his place in a very uncomfortable atmosphere.  He never said he did not or could not speak English and responded (in French) to my questions asked in English in a proper way, so he seemingly understood very well.  I thought it was extremely rude of him, especially after my subtle attempts to switch languages and considering that he operates in the tourism industry.  I would not recommend going there if you don't speak French.

Also, he repeated to me over the phone when I reserved and within the first 5 minutes that we were on site that he manages the place alone and for that reason only offers breakfast at one very early time in the morning (8-8:30 am) and he does not take the credit card. It goes without saying that I found these two elements also inconvenient especially since the place is not cheap.
