Auberge J.A Moisan

This auberge was charming! We usually do big hotel chains, so this was a change for us. We arrived early, 9 AM, and luckily Donna, the owner, was near, to let us in, give us a nice tour and our keys for check in later. We left our monster suitcases and were off to see the city. St-Jean is a fun street, lots of eateries and shops, and with the street closed to cars it's a really fun experience, and an enjoyable walk into the main area of the city. Luckily Donna arranged to have our heavy bags carried upstairs, where we found our room #4 and moved in for our 2 night stay. The atmosphere is small (they had to put drawers in the walls, not in chests) but lovely. You need to be careful not to hit your head if you get up in the middle of the night. The decor of the rooms downstairs is really museum like...I took many photos for possible artwork themes. The staff is very friendly, using English is not a problem. For breakfast, yes, it is limited, but enough - juice and coffee, we had banana bread and the BEST most huge croissant I have ever had. Since we left before breakfast on our last day we dined on our own pastries and drinks (Starbucks bottled Mocha coffee, bought at the market near the hotel) that we kept in the communal fridge. There is a gorgeous, large private bathroom downstairs available for use - we never had the time to, walking around the city every day. Somehow we managed to get our heavy bags downstairs - it wasn't easy on the steep, winding steps, but certainly a funny, special memory. In all, it was a most memorable, lovely stay in a very unique setting.
