Everything was so nice,eating, shopping and site seeing it was nice..some of us was so worry about the homeless people so so many almost on every block and how they set up home on the sidewalk in the way of the nice shopping and eating places.

I stayed there for one week and I felt like as I were home. The "caipirinhas" were awesome and the staff great. All the place was clean and the kitchen well equipped.  Excellent location (close to sambodromo and subway), the staff was very caring and friendly, Hope to be there again.

It's not the cleanest or the most comfortable place in Rio, but that's not what the phenomenal staff are trying to provide. Instead Other Side opens the door for you to a whole side of Brazilian culture that you will never see otherwise. Every day of the week there are things happening in Rio that I wouldn't have heard of if not for Other Side. Once I rode a train filled with live bands that was literally jumping under my feet from people dancing. They also understand the importance of saving money for budget travelers, so they always make an effort to show you how to do the most for the least money.

There is a well stocked kitchen, a terrace, good internet, and the fans work great in the heat. The staff are very easy to like and I found myself feeling like I was at home away from home. Finally, it's very very cheap. But even if you have a bigger budget, if you're willing to put up with  a bit of discomfort, staying at Other Side is a great way to see the hidden side Rio.

The hostel is a good location walking distance to lapa.Otherside seems to attract a really nice crowd of travellers. I've stayed here 3 times in total. Brian the owner isnt interested in making lots of money just ensuring guests have a good and real cultural experience. Hes full of information and very helpful. You will get to experience things you wouldnt in other hostels as all he wants is his guests to have the best experience. The staff are so friendly and fun you will have a great time staying there.

Sisters retreat

I really liked this hostel

We are not very demanding but this hostel was in such a terrible condition that after 2 nights we escaped and preferred to spend a night in a bus than there. Rooms are very small with numerous beds and no windows and space to put your backpack; there is one toilet and shower in one room for 18 people!!!!!! The hostel charges enormous amounts (50 euros per night per person) for such miserable conditions (! No breakfast served!!!!! Sheets are dirty, beds are about to collapse, nobody cleans the place! It is far far from the images and how it is defined by the owner as a brand new hostel!!!! Please be aware of this and if you can keep away from that place!
