Booked a 5-day cruise. One day before the cruise, between flights to Manaus we were informed that because of technical problems with the boat  the cruise is canceled with suggestion to change for a Anaconda Lodge. We took a suggestion. 
The guy who picked us up from the hotel was late.
The car was in the really bad conditions with no A/C bringing vegetables with suite cases. Then switched to the van which was circling around in Manaus for an hour seemingly without any reason, probably waiting for other tourist.

Electricity in Anaconda Lodge was only 12 hours a day so was A/C. 
At the time of suggestion, we were not given that information.
We were told the group will be not more than 5 persons.
In reality there were 17 people on one guide in two boats, no explanation on the second boat.

It’s an island, so wherever you go you need a boat. Boats were not really good, with no seat back and no cover, so in 20 minutes you are done, and there were 2 hours travels. Three times they changed an engine, because it stopped working.
Promised tropical juices were cashew juice only, fruits - watermelon only.
The nature is amazing, and the staff is fine, food was good, but the same for 5 days.
Organization and conditions are simply terrible.


Amazing nature and terrible organization and conditions

We booked 4 day/3 nights Amazon Jungle Tour in Anaconda Lodge.

There was total chaos, disorganization, only 1 English speaking tour guide, totally dirty rooms, serious safety issues.

We arrived to the property and they sent us straight for the camping to an isolated area (it supposed to be the last night, so while booking, we thought that we may skip this part depending on how it goes during the first 2-3 days). 

They sent us for camping in the jungle with the young guide who didn't speak English at all, who was physically sick and in fever, vomiting, without any first aid kit, any phone or contact to the "civilization". 

We had to make the fire by ourselves, make the dinner, noone was told to bring the drinkable water (luckily we had it with us,  but the rest no), we had to taking care of the fire until it started to heavily rain around 3 AM. The guide was totally knocked out since we arrived until the morning.  

They have no installation for the tourists in the camping area, noone is living there, there is no signal and you have no way to get back to the property or somewhere from where you can call for help in case some emergency happens. They don't have any satellite phone, nothing, even the canoe that brings you there, goes away and comes to pick you up in the morning.

These people are totally unprepared for the tourists and for any emergency - the absurd thing is that they knew the guide is not feeling well and they still sent him out for the overnight with 6 tourists in an isolated area from where is no escape.

I felt like I signed up for some survival skills the first night, which is definitely not what I booked.

The bungalows are dirty, there is no hygiene, the water is leaking out from under the toilet after flashing. There was no working light in the bathroom so we had to use the phones for the lights to at least take a shower - this seems to be an issue in all rooms as we heard few other guests complaining about it.

The program was chaotic, there was only 1 guide Roman who spoke English - he tried his best, but he was really lost in the program as everyday, there was a rotation of the new guests which probably confused them all.

Basically noone knew what he is going to do that day, people had to chasing, asking, were confused.  

From the whole itinerary (when I don't count the last compensated day describe below) we got only the camping, which caught us surprised as it supposed to be the last night and the canoeing on Rio Negro. 

Instead of the visit of Indigenous people - which was the reason why we didn't check out 2 days earlier, they sent us for 'caboclos" which was btw just showing of the plants (that supposed to be part of the hiking during the camping and which of course didn't happen). 

Finally, we checked out 1 day earlier and stayed the last day in Manaus. We complained already during the stay and they gave us alternative program for the last day which looked to be with some partnering company and that program was nice, but after all that days of stress....

The only thing which was good was food.

The last thing, I still don't understand how they can offer the tours for the foreigners, when there is only 1 person to speak English (at least during our stay it was like that) and different tours are overlapping.  None of the tourists who were there during our stay spoke Portuguese, so we had to even translate...

Tourist trap

During our stay (4 days & 3 nights) we greatly enjoyed many of the experiences such as pink dolphin's, trekking through the jungle, visiting the indigenous people (although this is obviously staged for visitors benefit). One of the best experiences we had was a lightening storm which lit up the sky for some time and was obviously not part of the itinerary!!

Unfortunately the tour was badly organised with poor communication and too much time sitting around waiting for something to happen. If you happened to fall asleep in the hammock it was highly likely you would miss a something due to the face that there was often little warning of leaving for an excursion.  

The cleanliness and safety on site was extremely poor with dirty bedsheets, sockets hanging off the walls and a pool which although full of water was also full of dirt and grime! As guests left during our stay there was no evidence of rooms/bedding being cleaned/replaced. Food was very basic and the same everyday for lunch and dinner. 

We didn't see any wildlife apart from spiders and crocodiles and were repeatedly told we needed to come back during the wet season when the river levels were higher...I wish we had been told this before we booked. We ended up cutting our stay short by one day/night due to the fact that we would have been repeating an activity...no refund provided! We were aware of several others who also cut their stay short for various reasons.

My advice would be to research other companies in the area who offer these experiences. Avoid this company as sadly the quality of customer experience seems obviously low on the agenda. The location is beautiful but resort is run down and no-one seems to care about it!

Sadly didn't live up to expectation

Don't be fooled by the photos. This place may have looked like this pre covid but it's now very run down. Food is very basic and the same everyday. Is about twice the price it should be. Someone is pocketing the money and not putting it back into the business. The staff and guides on site are great but just very very overpriced compared to other places of similar quality

Do not book. Extremely overpriced for the standard 

We booked for 5 days 4 night tour via WhatsApp. Reading the reviews, we didn’t expect much from the accommodation. It was basic, had a shower and toilet, but not very clean( lots of ants, lizard). The flush stopped working so then we ended up using the neighbouring lodge for the toilet which wasn’t very convenient. It would help if they cleaned at least once during the stay. AC becomes extremely cold at night, can’t be regulated and lots of us spent the night trying to switch the Ac on and off at night. 
Location- this is nice. Situated right next to river which is good because a lot of us were swimming in the waters close by. Swimming pool was out of order, looks like for a long time. Hammocks were a nice touch 
Activities- they don’t stick to itinerary and very disorganised. Swimming with dolphins,
Hiking and overnight stay was fun, but you may end up with a guide who doesn’t speak English which loses the value. There is only one guide who can speak English there. We didn’t spot many animals. One of the guides brought a sloth for us to see, which was great. Another day they got a baby cayman- we couldn’t spot any despite a couple of hours on the boat. Piranha fishing was also painful, hardly anybody caught any. Majority of the time was spent on boats that is basic and uncomfortable. There were other tour companies with better seated boats and sun shelters. Safety was disregarded. Highlight was camping at night in the jungle, especially with the guide Jefferson making it memorable with his jungle survival skills- he was the highlight of our trip! 
A number of things offered according to itinerary were ultimately unavailable. The ride to archipelago was scrapped. The beach they said was submerged in water. There was no jungle surviving session as was promised. We decided to end the tour a day early because there was nothing to do and the guide didn’t know what could be offered in replacement either. No refund. 
Food- we were prepared for basic food, but this was worse than what we had expected. Despite enough Information that we were vegetarians, there was hardly any food offered. A few times we had just plain rice. Quantity of food was also very less, and food very repetitive. If you weren’t the first in queue, it was likely that you wouldn’t get much. Pineapples were great, but I must have eaten more of them here than in the entire year. 
In summary, it is a reasonable experience, but do not stay here for longer than 2 nights.

Average experience

Great experience, thanks to our guides Marcos and Adjil and our chef Andre. Despite, that the water of the river was high and flooded everything, I had a wonderful experience. I did the 5 days, 4 nights tour. Really nice and interesting place to discover the Amazzonian River and jungle! 

Jungle tour, Anaconda resort

We had a great trip overall, we seen a lot of wildlife including Monkeys, Sloths, Aligators, snakes, electric eel and a lot of tarantulas and different bugs. We were there for 4 nights and also swam with the dolphins. The accommodation is basic but this can be expected in the middle of the Amazon jungle and I would say the place was very clean overall. The food was good and the guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. What brought this score down was that everything felt a bit disorganised, there were confusions with what we were meant to do each day and we had to be on top of the guides to make sure our trip was maximised (which it was). I would definitely reccomend this trip but dont be afraid to tell the guides exactly what you want to do each day to make sure you get the most of your time there. 

Trips were great overall just a little disorganised

We found this lodge from a Google search and spoke to the agent via whatsapp (this tool is widely used in Brazil). 

We were picked up in the morning from our hotel in Manaus and taken to a boat to cross the island 🌴. 

We met with the English speaking guide, Fabio who was truly awesome. Everyday we had different activities, we spent 6 days 5 nights and we didn’t get bored. Despite the lodge being full, personal attention was also given. One is also given the option to stay relaxed by the pool. 

The food is good and homemade but becomes a bit boring since it’s always the same. We might have felt this because we spent 6 days. They also cater for vegetarians however there were days were not enough food was available and other days were there was too much extra. The bar is great however they should stock more snacks. 

Highlight of the trip was camping and sleeping in the jungle. It might not be for everyone, however if you are up for an adventure make sure that you do this activity. 

Apart from Fabio, no one speaks English but one will learn to cope and ask for things needed! The rest of the guides although not english speaking are amazing and can do wonders in the jungle. They all know the jungle so well and one would feel very safe with them. 

The rooms are basic however super clean and one can ask for clean towels and their room to be cleaned anytime.

Best experience in the Amazon

Our stay at the Anaconda Amazon Island Lodge was mostly fun.
We enjoyed all the typical touristic activities and were always cared for. Food was regional and we enjoyed it. Very special was the Piranha dinner, after we caught some during our fishing trip.
However I feel the lodge could use a higher level of cleanliness, during four nights our room wasn't cleaned once, although it rained inside through the door. Using the installed air condition costs an additional 80 BRL per night, which sounds like a joking when paying 200$ per night.
Also the guides seem have little respect for the wildlife. Watching caimans is totally okay, but grabbing a baby and letting all the tourists touch it is unnecessary and cruel.
Besides that, our guide forgot to offer us mosquito nets for the night in the jungle, which made the sleep very hard.
Apparently one has to ask for everything.
The tours however were very nice. We saw a native village as well as a local one. We went canoying (two paddles in the motorboat), caiman spotting, piranha fishing, swimming with dolphins and watching the meeting of the waters.

5 Days in the Jungle

Ok place set on the Rio Negro river upriver from Manaus.
The tour with guide Markus (Marcus) was good. He is very knowledgeable of the rainforest and seems to care about conservation.
That said, the owners seem the opposite. I believe his name is Fernando. Firstly he was throwing tarantulas across the room and at guests. I’m not a big fan of spiders, but I actually felt sorry for it the way it was being manhandled and just tossed through the air at the guests.
Secondly - he keeps small Caimans in his office that he and his son catches. It’s not really appropriate.
Lastly, just as I was waiting for the boat to leave the son caught a snake in a tree. After knocking it to the ground he used a pole to pin its head so he could catch it. It looked like a head crushing pin! Once he had finished showing everyone the snake he just tossed it up into the air and out into the jungle like a piece of rubbish. I went to check on it and found it in a stunned state on the ground. After some time it crawled to a nearby bush and just curled up. 

Anaconda lodge - if you read this review, please do not keep caiman crocodiles in your office. It isn’t right. There are plenty to see on your night tours. No need to keep them on your premise!!
