We had a terrific stay in the Sunbird Cottage. We had a wonderful view and watched birds (and wallabies) right from the front porch. Daphne and Peter were very helpful and available, while also respecting our privacy. There are 3 cabins on the property (plus the main house), but we really felt as if we had the place to ourselves. There is a great walking track around the property (more birding and wallabies!) and the ferry to cross the Daintree River and head north is a short drive into town and down the road. Daphne arranged a dinner for us the first night, which was great. She also connected us with an amazing birdwatching cruise on the Daintree River - amazing hosts! The breakfasts were great - fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and jam (and even a Christmas fruit cake), bread, fresh milk, and fresh juice. The cabin was very comfortable and included loads of local tips/information. So happy we found this place and would love to come back!

Wonderful retreat and excellent location

What a great place to stay close enough to Mossman Gorge & Cape Tribulation for day trips.Spend 3 days see everything but be back before dusk to experience the rainforest slipping into nightfall.peter & Daphine are great hosts

A little slice of heaven

We loved our stay here.  The property is about 8kms South of Daintree Village which makes it very convenient for excursions to Mossman Gorge or Port Douglas.  To get to Cape Tribulation or the parts of the forest North of the river you have to take the ferry for which we were very kindly provided with reduced rate tickets.
The road is mostly unsealed but graded and is perfectly passable in an ordinary car, there was no need for the 4 wheel drive which we had hired.  Signposting was clear and we found the property on our first attempt.
We were given a very warm welcome and lots of good advice which we took to our profit.  Then we were shown the Jacuzzi and BBQ facilities as well as the library and games, eccentrically housed in old fridges.  Our cabin, Sunbird Sanctuary had a flowering shrub outside the deck and a view across the dam to the trees on the other side.
Our cabin was spotless and well equipped, large enough for the two of us, and we enjoyed the breakfasts provided by our hosts on the deck by the front door surprisingly untroubled by flies or mosquitoes.  On two occasions a Cairns Birdwing butterfly came by and spent several minutes taking nectar  from the bush by the deck and I was able to take many photos of this beautiful creature.  The bed was comfortable and we slept well.  We did not make much use of the kitchen - well, we were on holiday - but had good meals in Daintree Village in the pub there.
WiFi (in the shed) was adequate.  We took a couple of walks round the property and were pleased to see more butterflies (they are my passion) and, on an evening stroll, a wallaby appeared.
We were delighted to have found this peaceful and beautiful place.

Great Accomodation, Fabulous Hosts

Stayed at Daintree Valley Haven in October. Great hosts, good advice to what to do, Clean, modern cabins, uncrowded. Good birding right on the property. We took advantage of the option of ordering ready to cook dinners for two of our four nights and enjoyed both of our choices.

Great Place to enjoy Daintree Region

Had a very enjoyable stay at Peter and Daphne’s B&B.  It was just what we were looking for.  A lovely oasis off the beaten track surrounded by the Daintree forest.  Easy access to Cape Tribulation.  Bird life was tremendous, and meeting wallabies on an evening walk was a treat.  Great place to cook your dinner on the barbie and enjoy the evening and the quiet and conversation with other guests and the great hosts.

Great Stay

My partner and I enjoyed 8 nights here as a break from our camper trailer travels. It was very peaceful with a beautiful outlook over the dam. It's a perfect location to explore the daintree and an easy drive to port douglas yet it is very secluded and well away from the hectic crowds of tourists. Peter and Daphne are wonderful hosts and are extremely attentive without being intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.  Thank you
