Guesthouse Arben Elezi

My family (four of us) spent close to 2 weeks in Albania and this was our best experience. If you are in Berat for the great look of the ancient city (which most people are there for) you cannot do better than this location. The view from the terrace is priceless. It is the view they use for all those postcards. Also, it is right next to the walk to the castle further up. Again, you couldn't possibly pick a better location. If location was the best you can have, service was right there with it. Mira and her sons were always accommodating and helpful. The place itself was modern and very functional from the inside. We saw all sort of places in our extended trip in Albania, but Arben Elezi impressed us with the upgraded rooms (flooring, bathroom fixtures, beds - basically everything). You can tell they spared no expense. Keep in mind that this is in a somehow inaccessible part of town (vehicle-wise), so I can only imagine what it may have taken to upgrade what typically is a very traditional home. Having said above, there is parking, albeit limited. You have to be resourceful when parking and it helps if your vehicle is small. Breakfast was traditional Albanian breakfast - we loved it. It is made on the spot and very fresh. That also means that it is not buffet style and it is what they have prepared for the day. You get the full Albanian experience. I learned from the owner, that they don't accommodate young children. I completely agree with her. There are very few children who would appreciate what Berat would offer - I left mine home and came with just my parents and children. I would always look for Arben Elezi accomodation when I travel to Berat.
