Hotel Edinburgh

I have no idea how this Hotel is today but in the early 1970's I was assigned by IBMUK to look after their interests in Kitwe, Ndola, Chingola, Mufilira and Chilelabombwe. We lived in Kitwe and went EVERY day to The Edinburgh for lunch on their kind of inside terrace.. We loved it! We also went on weekend evenings for The cabaret! Fantastic! There was a wonderful waiter called Max!! He got fired once for slipping and breaking glasses but I intervened and he continued.......I also stayed in the hotel on our departure.. Kitwe is a delightful small Zambian African town and it should not really be expected to find a chrome and glass International Hotel.. Take the Edinburgh as you find it and ENJOY!

I did not find it as bad as many of these reviews might indicate. It's a very old and run down hotel and I was booked in by a colleague who stays here every other week. 

Because he knows the staff and the rooms, I suspect he gets far better service than other guests might! (Based on the reviews below) however my experience was fine. You have to get over the fact you are in a hotel that so desperately needs an upgrade, but the room I was in had all the facilities that worked fine and was clean. Bed was comfy and sheets and towels were freshly laundered. Shower and toilet were clean and worked. Aircon worked TV worked and had several SA based satellite channels available. 

Breakfast was excellent, served hot and was tasty. Service was excellent. 

At the end of the day, if you based your accom on value for money, you would struggle to beat this hotel in Kitwe. If value for money is not a factor, then there are far better quality lodges, but you will pay for them......

One piece of advise, stay higher up the hotel (4th floor) as the general noise is less there than on lower floors. 



I would not have booked it! But it was better than I expected!

I did not stay here we had a seminar in the hotel. It was a mediocre affair. We had no privacy, the seminar bordered another seminar and the interference was very irritating. The food supplied as mediocre. Hotel looks tatty and we stayed elsewhere. Old premises and old building, in the centre of Kitwe.

What to expect from a hotel in Kitwe? The room had old furniture and plumbing. Shower was a disappointment and in the morning only cold water. Power went off in the middle of the night and temperature became unpleasant. But the room seemed clean and the breakfast was surprisingly good and wifi did work. We were recommended not walk around during the evening. 

Under the circumstances that was not so bad.

Pathetic.. Of all the hardships we face on a day to day basis , lack of hot water in a hotel should not be one of them. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. This hotel could be the go to hotel considering the central location but standards have to be upgraded. Move with the times dammit!
