The day prior to our reservations at Ohia my husband went into kidney failure, he was flown flight for life to Oahu.  I phoned to cancel, hoping they might rebook and return some of our money, we were booked for 7 nights .  But that isn't their policy, their policy is to keep our money and rebook, thereby making double the rent, off our misery.  If they hadn't rebooked then I would understand that I pay in full.  But I checked their availability and they are full.  They charged us in full the day after we should have arrived, and they wrote me back and they weren't nice at all, just "this is the policy, you should have bought insurance".
If this is a nice place it is phoney, they are vulchers.  I don't expect to ever book a B&B again.  Our hotel in Waikola was wonderful.

Greedy owners

This year marked the 3rd time we've stayed at the Ohia House in the past 4 years....we didn't visit the Big island in 2016. The location of this fantastic B&B allows for access to many must see sights......including Volcano, but this is only one small reason why we have and will continue to return to this great B&B. 
The meals (breakfast) are excellent and plentiful, our morning discussions with Rick and Cindy allowed us to share our previous days adventures, and we got plenty of intel on must see sights.
The room is very comfortable and clean, and we especially liked being the only 2 guests with access during our stay.
We're planning our next Big Island adventure for 2019 and Ohia House will be our B&B of choice.

Our favorite place to stay when in Pahoa....Great location.....Great Hosts.

We visited in early November. Loved the breakfast our host served, and how she decorates with so many orchids. She also took us on a little tour of her beautiful gardens, showing us the natural and landscaped plants, flowers etc. She answered all of our questions about the local area and what places to visit. Even at this time of the year, there is lush greenery and warmth. Not far from the volcano - easily done in a day trip. We were on our honeymoon and felt the level of privacy was great. The room is clearly separated from the main house by an open air hallway.

Warm, welcoming, tropical

When going back to the big island I had to go back to Ohia House B&B. It was great to see Cindy and Rick again.  The property was just as beautiful as I remembered,  like a tropical oasis.  Cindy amazes me with her delicious breakfast that were served every morning, the fruit was local and fresh.  The pool was nice and refreshing as was laying in the sun.  Can’t wait for my next trip!!!

Another trip to paradise 

We had 2 nights here in 2017 and decided it wasn't enough, so we came back for another 5 nights. Peaceful location. Cindy and Rick are great hosts, friendly, good advice and respect your privacy, even though they are sharing their house. That said the layout is such that the single room (no other guests), private bathroom, and spacious lanai occupies 1/3 of the total floor area, approximately 50 square yards. Breakfasts served every morning at 8am were delicious. And even though we had been before there was still plenty to do...tide pool snorkelling, walks/bike rides to the lava fields, relaxing in the thermal pools at Ahalanui and Champagne pools.We still haven't used the Ohia swimming pool! Maybe next time.
