John was an excellent host for our 4 days in Anchorage. John is a wealth of information from what to do, where to go, and where to eat.  As a fisherman, he also knows where to fish and what to catch.  A Loon's Nest is in a wonderful location, about $16 taxi ride from the airport and on the people mover line.

Great Property

A Loons Nest was a nice place to stay that is run by a long time married couple.  They were very accommodating and helpful to what we needed for breakfast and information about Alaska. I hope to stay with them again in the future.

A Loons Nest

We chose A Loon's Nest for a couple reasons. The location was not too far from the airport (5-6 mi), and since our flight didn't arrive til 8:30pm we wanted to be able to get there in a reasonable amount of time. John welcomed us, showed us to our room and when we asked about a restaurant, gave us a wonderful recommendation that was within walking distance. That was a plus since we weren't picking up our RV til the next day. 

Great start to our vacation!

The host is an extremely easygoing kind man. He let us keep our luggage in his house past checkout to make it easier for our travel needs. 
He replaced our towels everyday. The room was well equipped with bathrobes as well as enough towels. The place was clean and comfortable. The sitting area has a gorgeous view and very comfortable sofa. 
The reason I didn't give five stars is because The house was a little hot but with the windows opened it was better. Plus it had a smell from cat food. However the smell didn't come into the bedroom. Also the bathroom is a private bathroom, however you do need to walk into the hallway out of your room to get to it. 


Very pleasant

A Loon's Nest is a great place to stay. Summer hotel pricing in Anchorage is expensive, and the Nest was consistently lower than almost every place we looked. As a Bed & Breakfast, which is also inspected and approved by the Anchorage Bed & Breakfast Association, the Nest has a much more personable vibe than a hotel.

We stayed in the Bird room, which has an attached bath, private entrance, and a king bed by request (two twins pushed together with a foam lining to cover the gap). The house has Wifi available, which is a lifesaver if your phones don't get cell coverage in Alaska, like ours. Breakfast alternated between cereal, yogurt, toast, fresh fruit, eggs, sausage and waffles. Some days are a cold breakfast, some days are hot.

The Nest is also conveniently located, though I would highly recommend renting a car. Downtown Anchorage is less than ten minutes away, fifteen from the airport, and close to Alaska Route 1, the only highway out of the city.

The Nest's host, John, is a friendly guy who knows a lot about Alaska and helped us out with some recommendations for activities and day trips.

Overall, a would highly recommend A Loon's Nest, particularly if you're trying to save money on lodging to free up spending money on the many (expensive) activities Alaska has to offer.
