Great communication from owners, very responsive. Lovely quiet location,  not too far a walk to the centre and local attractions. There's also electric scooters at the end of the road you can hire if you want to zip around. We also saw plenty of taxis about if you dont want to walk. Clear check in and out guidance. Reminders for this were in frames around the guesthouse. Easy to access keysafe for the room and key code for main door. Clearly communicated in booking email. Clean rooms, we stayed in room 5, and much more space than expected. Easily walked around bed. There was a chair and side tables plus a little table for the kettle Plenty of storage for clothes and bags. Great stock of additional tea and coffee for the rooms, easily accessible by the front door. Warm and inviting room, easy to make room warmer with radiatos and heaters, perfect for winter stays. Lovely complementary bathroom toiletries and super fluffy towels.  Great colour decor, which could be touched up in places but this was nothing really. Bed was huge, mattress was much softer than we are used to so our backs did ache after 2 nights, but if you like a soft mattress this would be perfect for you. Bedding was warm and clean. Full length mirror behind door has no nearby light so can't really use it for hair or make up but there is a mirror in the bathroom. Shower had great temperature and pressure. It was a very comfortable stay and we would return if we were in the area again.

Comfortable and clean guesthouse. Great communication and location 

Ideal for a solo traveller (myself). No frills, just all the essentials! Nicely decorated and decent mattress. En-suite shower and toilet nice to have. It’s nicely situated at about a 15 minute walk from the town centre, ideal for burning off all those cake calories! And it’s pretty quiet as it’s situated in a residential street.

As with anywhere there are plenty of options in York, but most of the time you’re paying a premium for location. Who wants to stick somewhere where it’s noisy every night?

Great for solo travellers; perhaps a bit tight for couples

I have never stayed in a guesthouse before, and if I am honest expected everybody to know when you moved etc but this lovely guesthouse was the complete opposite. We were room 7 on the top floor and although quite a few stairs to get to the top, we only saw people when we were leaving the weekend. It is lovely and small, just as advertised and within a short walk to York Minister with a couple of lovely pubs on the way. The room is basic and no thrills, which is just what we like and that reflects in the price. 

Would definitely stay again if we had another trip to York.

Couples weekend

Very good location to stay for a long weekend in York. Very close to local pubs and supermarkets in Bootham and not much further on foot (minutes) to York city centre via Petergate. Host was really accommodating and helpful, she went above and beyond to make us feel at home in York. The guest house was comfortable, a perfect place to relax after a long day of sight seeing. Also very good value for money, couldn't be happier with my experience at this really great guesthouse.

Comfortable Place close to stay close  to historic York

Two nights stay booked and gifted by our daughter to celebrate our wedding anniversary in April. One week before due date I tested positive for Covid. Daughter contacted landlady NATALIE to request date change to safeguard other guests. NATALIE advised my daughter to cancel booking at Booking.com and NOT TO ASK FOR A REFUND and she would then see about date reallocation. Three days prior to due date I rang NATALIE to say I was still Covid positive. Gov't guidelines had changed, I could now technically go to York. NATALIE SAID SHE DIDN'T WANT ME THERE WITH COVID (understandable) so I asked her to change the dates of our visit then as she still had our money, she refused saying she would only do so if someone else booked our original dates. Told her that was harsh, she put the phone down on me. One day before due date my daughter rang NATALIE. Daughter told NATALIE I was still positive. NATALIE was curt and very dismissive and told our daughter that to change the dates of our stay,( bearing in mind she's already kept our money for two nights stay) she'd let us book a room with an additional payment but with a 50% discount! NATALIE then put the phone down on my daughter.
NATALIE, which planet are you on? You manipulate a guest to cancel the booking without a refund, you admit you don't want me there with Covid (so YOU have now effectively cancelled our booking without a refund ) but also refuse to change our dates. You somehow think we might want to book with you again so you offer us a 50% discount.....what!! NATALIE wake up and stop insulting your guest's intelligence. This smacks of being a big con and I'm totally astounded you can get away with it. 
I see your business is on the market. I do not wish you well for the future and hope that prospective buyers read this so they can see the bad reputation you are leaving for them to sort out in future.

Beware..... think twice, don't book. Don't get conned!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a lovely guest house not far from York Minster and the Shambles .Very clean with comfy beds and ample breakfast . Street parking was  available  at a cost of 5 pound per day/night.Host was very pleasant would recommend and would definitely stay again

The booking was for 'room only' but we were pleasantly surprised to be offered a complimentary 'basic' breakfast (cereal, toast, tea/coffee, yoghurt etc.). This was a lovely touch and very much welcomed! All in all a really pleasant experience.
The shower in our room (ground floor) was maybe a bit on the weak side (common with electric showers). However that is being a bit picky and wasn't really a huge problem.
As far as parking goes, you can park in the street using the residents' permit for which there is a charge of £5 per night.

Great position (easy walk to town), very pleasant stay.

First time visiting York. We went for a two night break and to visit the Christmas martins and see the city. Found this guesthouse online and thought we would try it. The property is a five minute walk to the centre of York.
We got room 2, ground floor at the front of the property. Although we were next to the front door and facing the street, we found it was still quiet and had wonderful nights sleep. The room was clean, spacious with everything needed for a two night stay. The bathroom was small but not too small that you felt claustrophobic and space to put your toiletries. The bed was soft and comfortable with a thick quilt.
We didn’t have breakfast at the establishment as we had booked places in the city. There was tea and coffee in the room and there was extra supplies near the front door if you required more. They do offer on street parking at a charge per day, I think it’s £5 which isn’t bad. We got the train there so we didn’t need this facility.
If I visit York again I would book here and will recommend it to others.

First time visit to York.

Myself and 3 friends have been staying at this cosy guest house for a few years now for our now regular overnight stay for the Xmas market. Not being able to go last year we were looking forward to our stay, which once again we all enjoyed. Nice to see Natalie again and have a catch up. Never have a problem with the rooms, always ready for us, always clean and well stocked with tea/ coffee etc. We will hopefully be back next year. Ps have to mention the lady who cleans the rooms and was there at breakfast time. Very efficient and helpful , many thanks for the directions for hotel chocolat! See you next year.

The wanderers return!

The Brentwood guest house is situated down a quite residential street a short 5 minute walk from the city centre. The room had in my opinion one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in for years. When arriving before check in your able to store your luggage in another room so you can start exploring York straight away. Rooms are serviced everyday, except for Wednesdays but you are able to get access to fresh towels etc should you need them. All in all if you want a great place to stay without paying high end prices this is the place for you!!!
