It has taken a while to write this review because we are now organizing next year for our Group and it came to our attention that our comments to our hosts of The Granary about our visit clearly didn't warrant a reply sadly. We felt the Granary to which to all intents and purposes does accommodate a large party really well inside, with comfortable rooms and a well equiped kitchen. However it is let down by the outside.  The facilities including the hot tub, swimming pool and seating areas were very tired and frankly somewhat neglected. This was probably not helped by the drought re keeping planted tubs watered but even so after reading previous reviews felt it should be mentioned.  

I noticed another negative review about the heating system for the hot water which comes from a biomass straw burner at the back of the property which was constantly smoking away during our 3 night break.  As the property is nestled in a dip there was nowhere for the smoke to go and we couldn't leave our windows open at all for the smell of smoke. 

It was a shame we didn't have the experience so many appear to have had in 2021 but couldn't leave this unsaid.  Hopefully some clearing and tidying up of the outside area will be done before next season.  We felt that with a bit of TLC  this could be such an amazing venue, unfortunately the photos don't reflect the reality.

I don't like to review in the negative typically but our group did feel somewhat disappointed after our stay at Wood Advent Farm.

A school reunion weekend in September 2022

We spent a long weekend at Wood Advent, Arrived and was welcomed with a cup of tea and some cake on the patio after being shown to our room. Beautiful farmhouse and well kept grounds coupled with a lovely bit of September sunshine made for a lovely start to the break. Diana had already booked us a table at a local hostelry so no need to hunt around for somewhere to have a meal. 
The farm is down a single track lane that rises through the woods from Roadwater which poses no problems if driven carefully and with consideration that you may well meet other cars or walkers. 
Breakfast is superb with excellent service, lots of options depending on your needs. The cooked breakfast is just the start to the day I wanted. The dining room was well spaced out allowing free movement without getting close to others.
The bedroom was well equipped and clean and particularly good to find all windows open, the bathroom was clean and well prepared and good to see, in the present climate, no toiletries. 
Although we did not use them, there are two comfortable lounges where you can relax and read one of the many books that are available both in the lounges and around the property. 
On returning from our days excursions we were again welcomed by Diana with tea and cake ( Diana's apple and sultana cake is heavenly ! ) 
A totally relaxing weekend and superbly looked after by the hosts, many thanks for everything, we will be back

What a find! I needed a room whilst attending the Watchet Music Festival as my band was playing on Saturday night...and I am too old for sleeping in a tent! Diana and her family have been running a B&B for over 40 years...and it shows. Nothing is too much trouble. After checking in, there was a lovely cafetiere of fresh coffee and cake waiting for me in one of the 2 reception rooms, very welcome after a long drive. 
The house (1840) is charming. It oozes a bygone age charm, with beautiful lawns and gardens. Highlights for me, sitting on the terrace, admiring the countryside, and enjoying the peace and quiet. There is a lovely outdoor heated pool, and various places to sit and read a book. 
Breakfast is nothing short of a feast! Everything is cooked fresh to order. Some lovely touches,real cotton napkins, butter cut from a bigger block, not those horrid mini packets. Endless fresh coffee or tea, served in a lovely dinning room. My room ( a very generous sized single) had a comfy double bed, and an en-suite bathroom, with a fantastic shower. Lots of fluffy towels, and the usual tea and coffee tray. Again another nice touch, a small fridge in the hall, containing small jugs of fresh milk, not those small pots of UHT! I was sad to leave, highly recommended.

A warm Somerset Welcome

We spent a week at wood advent farm and had the most amazing time. The hosts are incredibly friendly and welcoming, provided us with great suggestions for things to do, walking routes and maps. They cooked delicious breakfasts  an amazing roast dinner on our first night and lovely cakes, tea and coffee whenever we arrived back off our long walks. Nothing was too much. The farm itself is fabulous, very comfortable bedroom and the drawing rooms were lovely places to sit and read. We would highly recommend wood advent farm for a relaxing break with amazing countryside views and will no doubt be returning!

Incredible holiday- friendly, welcoming and amazing surroundings

The owners, Dianne and John, have worked the farm for over 40 years and have 500 acres of land with cows, sheep. They also produce maize and linseed, and have horses too. John, with a relative, manage the farming and Diane takes care of the house and converted granary which they hire out to large groups on self catering terms. Together they appear to work extremely hard at the business.

I stayed in the farmhouse in the “Meadow Twin” room.

PLUS POINTS 
* Secluded “farm feel” to house;
* Lots of space;
* Super large bedroom with bed to suit (see pic);
* Plenty of hot water available and warm radiators if needed, but the bathroom tap positions in my quarters were reversed, so the ones marked “hot” poured cold water and the “cold” ones hot. Just something to be aware of;
* Quiet at night;
* Terraced front and back lawns;
* Wildlife eg. Squirrels, pheasants, evident in garden especially during early evening;
* Keen walkers will love the paths, some from the house, that traverse the English rolling countryside many with steep ascents / descents;
* Protecting the planet, with things being kept as natural as possible, seem to be one of Diane and John’s top priorities. Their beef and lamb is produced organically;
* Dinner and packed lunch available on request.

MINUS POINTS
* No promised cake on arrival;
* Farm flies and other insects, (only to be expected), found on inside of bedroom window on arrival. Difficult to get rid of as they became trapped between the sash and the fixed window when the sash was opened. Keeping the window closed was the way to avoid;
* WiFi reception patchy. Best place for it is in the front lounge;
* Cellular signal reception patchy for EE customers;
* Some chairs, and the settee in places, in front lounge are uncomfortable to sit on. Re-springing needed?

OTHER POINTS
* Apart from the booking communication is done mostly verbally, eg. Menus, which can lead to uncertainties;
* Driving to / from the house from the A39 is a 2 mile journey along narrow winding lanes with a few passing places. Steep hill up with sharp bend in the middle greets drivers from Roadwater village achievable at less than 20mph using first gear only. Be careful to select the correct (narrow) turning from Roadwater;
* Front door of farmhouse faces away from the driveway so, on arrival, it’s quite possible to mistakenly introduce yourself to the proprietors at the back door.


Good Old Fashioned Farmstead

A delightfully tranquil farmhouse with clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent breakfasts, cake and evening meals served by very warm and welcoming hosts. A lovely place to stop and breathe for a while. Will definitely return. 

A warm welcome

Me and my fiance went here in august.... and it was lovely. We had a beautiful room, the shower and bath separate to each other and our bed was huge. The pool was a added bonus. When we arrived we was early, but welcomed in and the lady brought us teas and coffees. Anytime we needed anything the hosts were quick to respond and give us advice. When ever we came back from our outing we was always offered tea and coffee. It was so relaxing we would go downstairs for breakfast which was beautiful and plentiful in our pjs. Such a homely. The dogs were a delight too.

Lovely 

We were a large group of 22, 18 of us stayed in the beautiful Granary barn conversion & 4 of us stayed in the B&B. The internet photos of the Granary don't do it justice. It is a very large property & is beautifully done out with very high quality finish. It is the best equipped property I have ever stayed in. The bedrooms are large & the beds are very comfy. Each bedroom is like a hotel room & all have en suites. We had several children and teenagers & they really enjoyed spending time in the hot tub. 
The 4 people who stayed in the B&B were also very satisfied with their stay. The B&B is more rustic than the Granary but is very cosy and charming and had a lovely open fire burning. 
We also chose to have a meal in the B&B for my 40th birthday & I would highly recommend this. The home cooked food tasted amazing & the deserts were something else. A lot of the vegetables were grown on the farm & you could really taste this. The guests who stayed in the B&B were very happy with their breakfasts & said there was a lot of choice
Diana and David, the couple who own & run these two properties, were lovely and very attentive whilst giving us privacy to enjoy our holiday.
The properties are in a beautiful location & perfectly located on Exmoor National Park, close to Dunster Castle & not far from Minehead.
I would highly recommend both properties. The Granary is perfect for large groups and is incredibly grand and spacious, whilst the B&B is perfect for a peaceful getaway. 

Amazing break away

I wanted a few days break.I knew the Watchet/Minehead area from of old and that the Quantocks/Exmoor borders were a world apart even if only a few miles from civilisation.Usually,I stay in self catering establishments where the is a fair degree of independence and lack of intrusion so choosing Advent Farm guest house was a gamble. It paid off!. It was an adventure finding the place.The lanes are long ,narrow and winding to the farm.I found it through the hordes of pheasants on the way! The farm is set in a sumptuous sheltered valley surrounding by glorious rolling hillsides and is so quiet and secluded.The guest house has a farm house ambience which I loved.The room I had was clean and the bed was very comfortable.The breakfast was a treat and Diane and John were perfect hosts-friendly, welcoming and helpful ,not too intrusive but there when needed.There were other guest but I was hardly aware of them and I could come and go with ease.Despite being out of the way ,Advent Farm is an excellent base for exploring areas of outstanding beauty.Be prepared as it is a working farm and though the Granary guest lodge is ultra modern the Farm House is more traditional.What is there not to like.  

I wanted a few days break

Me and my fiance stayed here for a weekend and it was lovely, it was so nice and quiet just what we wanted. The hosts were very welcoming and tended to any needs we had. The pool was lovely too, the only thing that we struggled with was the heat in the rooms when sleeping, I know it cant be helped in this weather but a fan would be nice. Definitely will be returning :)
