So my wife and I stayed here on Thursday 20th July. For daughters graduation.  And at first site a nice hotel and not bad location.  Now  I say it the way it is good or bad. 
So the room very clean very fresh and a lovely bathroom. BAD points. Room very hot window hardly opens. Only half a toilet roll In the bathroom. The bed was way to hard. And the pillows. I thought they were sand bags as was as hard as them.  The staff well they was very friendly and asked if they good do anything for you. So spot on there. So would give this place a 3 star review 

Ok place for a night or two max

well by pure chance i stumbled on this hidden gem. i had booked wrong date on hotel i was staying at and at 8 pm i panic booked the 1st hotel booming. com had to offer . on first impressions i tbought it was deralict but i psrkrc up.down so.e unlit back streer that could of been jack the rippers hunting ground . well im herd so give it a go. as i got to the front door where a gang of inmates were smoking weed and enjoying a bottle of cheap cider i asked is this clarence hotel ? with a slur he informed me it was and that it was a 'sbithole' . as i entered the door into reception ( hallway) i realised that drugs and alchol had not impared his judgment. they guy on reception ( hallway) a man of few words informed me i was across the road at no 11 . i took my keys and my life in my hsnds and procceded to no 11 . there were shoe marks all up the walls to the stairs ?? at this point im like where the f@@k am i !! . i maxe it to my room entered and what can i only dedcribe as a room the bailiffs have just visited not one stick.of furniture just a room and single bed oh and hslf a curtain . well a hot shower and things will seem better . after running tbe hot water for 10 minuites i decided thst after a cold sbower they might seem better . i got into the most uncomfortable bed life could give you im sure it was just springs with a shedt over them . thdde seemed alot of police sirens most of the night maybe i had picked a off night ?. i awoke in morning and was suprised i waz still alive and more suprisex my car was still there . to sum it up i muzt use tbe words of the weed smoking drunk id met earler . this is the worse zce i have ever seen let alone stayed

I stayed at the Clarence on 2 occasions with 4 other 20 year old males after we were visiting a friend who is at the uni in Nottingham.

We arrived around 7pm, to see there was no parking at all, but we were told it was ok to park down a side street which definitely did not look safe. 

We received our keys and were excited to see our room despite what sorry state the hotel actually looks like. We opened the door and it was horrendous, hilarious in fact. 

Where do I start, water marks on the wall, soaking wet floor (bring wellingtons as trench foot is possible), presumably from the radiator juice that continuously oozes out, no light fittings on the wall (probably live), adjustable sink (you literally can move it left and right), shower was surprisingly good, broken beds - my mate fell through his bed and it was the funniest thing as we realised at this point just how bad the hotel was. However for £12.50 a night you just can't go wrong. 

It's not too far away from the city centre either and there are various pubs and shops along the way, just so you can avoid actually staying there for any long period of time. 

By the end of our drunken weekend, we created many great memories together and still talk about the hilarious times of staying in what we call 'The Clarence Seedorf' named after the famous footballer. And in actual fact we stayed here a second time just for the comedy value of the 'Clarence'. I would genuinely recommend to a group of males aged between 18-21 who are looking for a cheap hotel in Nottingham and just want a laugh. 

However, if you are looking for something more classy, avoid this place. Do not take your girlfriend, she will not be impressed. 

Hilarious how bad this hotel is!

Thankfully this place has closed for good. It was so bad that it's become a core memory within my group of mates and we regularly reminisce about our legendary night in Nottingham. 

Just to put it into perspective how bad this place was, our taxi driver couldn't take us to the front door because he, and I quote, 'can't go past that lamppost because it's not my turf. i might get stabbed'. 

As mentioned numerous times in other reviews, absolute dump. Dirty, furniture falling apart, stains everywhere, sticky, mouldy, etc. Fortunately we were extremely drunk else I don't think I would of stayer here. 

The heavy duty, prison style barbed wire around the beer garden was a nice touch. 

It was so bad it was comical.

A friend booked 2 single rooms for myself and a male friend in this “hotel” (I use the term very loosely) in good faith after seeing photos and the unwarranted 3* brag on Booking.com.

We arrived late to check in but even though I was ringing the bell for five minutes, I had to phone them (thank goodness for mobile phones - instance 1) in order for someone to open the door. We were greeted (well, barely) by a man who spoke very little English and therefore his welcome speech consisted of “You booked?” which once confirmed was followed by “Over the road!” At which point he led us out of the “hotel” building, across the road, and up the street opposite. If I had been alone there is NO WAY that I would have accompanied him on this late night jaunt, but as my friend was with me, I felt more bemused  than scared. 

The scary part was yet to come as our tour guide stopped in front of an unwelcoming alley outside a row of dilapidated terraced houses and proceeded along it to a door which he opened and said “here one”. At no time did this man smile, exchange niceties, or offer to carry my bag up the steep and narrow stairs as he led me to my chamber of horror, for the night.  

When he unlocked the door, we  entered what I hoped against hope might be a pleasant surprise in spite of the surroundings, but unbelievably I was faced with a room that looked like somewhere you would send a condemned man so that he might finish the job himself! I am an educated woman who has travelled on my own all over the world but I have NEVER seen anything so horrendous as this pitiful, insulting, and unacceptable excuse for a hotel!

My friend was given a similar room but in the house next door - so the fact that we weren’t even in the same building made me feel quite nervous.

My room had a single bed, a microwave on the carpeted floor with a kettle on top of it, a bin (that had not been emptied), and a multitude of power points (no idea why). There was: no table, no chair, nowhere to hang clothes, no phone with which to contact reception (or the outside world), no mirror (not even in the shower/toilet room), no towel, and (this seems laughably ridiculous to add - but for the sake of  accuracy) no cup/mug, and no complimentary tea/coffee/shampoo etc that one might find in a real hotel! 

I was very tired after a long day travelling, so as much as I wanted to leave and find a proper hotel, it was too late and so I accepted that I had to swallow this bitter pill!

I had to use the bed as my unpacking surface and once undressed I had to put the clothes that I intended to wear the next day back in my bag as there was nowhere else to put them other than the floor or perhaps on top of the microwave (strangely enough, neither looked like a clean or valid option).

My phone battery was running low and I was quite fearful about being alone in this room but eventually exhaustion took over and I fell asleep.

In the morning, I decided to call the “hotel” reception and ask for towels. 
The young man “Ricky” wasn’t that helpful at first, apart from telling me that they didn’t put towels in the rooms because people steal them.  I replied that this was “meant” to be a hotel and that as a paying guest I should be afforded the basics without argument! He said he would “See if they had any towels”  but that he couldn’t bring them over because he couldn’t leave the hotel. I said that I was not prepared to get dressed, go down the precarious stairs, and across the road to collect something that should already have been supplied. After 20 minutes waiting for him to appear, I called back - he caved in and said that he would be over in 5 minutes. He arrived, with one towel clutched in his hand, but as beggars it seems can’t be choosers, I accepted the towelling olive branch and thanked him (because I’m nothing if not well mannered!)

The shower was ok but all I had was a bar of soap and my one towel so I didn’t wash my hair, I just cleansed my body, got dried and dressed, and got the hell out of Dodge! 

My advice is this- if literally all you want is a bed for the night - phone a friend because The Clarence Hotel does not deserve your custom!!!!

Trading standards - go and check this place out. It SHOULD NOT be allowed to operate as a hotel! 

Prisoner Cell Block CD - A Horror Story

worst hotel I ever stayed in.I stayed in lots of places  but this is by far the worst. Window tied closed with tie-raps. no parking but was told there was. I booked this hotel as I messed my booking up at the usual hotel. I didn't think places like this would be about in the UK these days I'm amazed it open. if I knew it was this bad I would of stayed in my car.
