Was in Newcastle to watch the football and needed a hotel to stay in. This was perfect for what we needed, easy check in, friendly staff members. Very clean room with comfortable bed and clean bathroom with shower. Would definitely stay here again, great value for money! The only thing I would say is could of done with a kettle in the room for the morning cuppa 😊

Great place

The  staff were really friendly and helpful, there was a really good choice of good for breakfast , the beds were comfy and the rooms were spacious with lovely decor, and parking was really easy. 9 of us stayed overnight and nothing was too much trouble.

Well worth a visit

We originally booked to got to newcastle West but we where moved to the clifton hotel and so glad we had the service we received was out stand and the gentleman who was on duty nothing was to much trouble and he was so helpful we can highly recommend this hotel a party weekens away welcoming friendly clean and tidy x

Had mint time 8 lads went for an 18th and 21st birthday do we had a the 8 people suite the owner couldn’t do enough for us top bloke 
Room was better than expected perfect for a lads weekend away it was clean
Nice little bar area drinks were averagely priced
Nice and close to city centre £5 in a taxi

Brilliant hotel, Andrew & staff tried to make my stay the best, rooms clean & good bar & even a pool table, good bus service & taxi into Newcastle centre, I don't understand bad reviews, it's very reasonable & clean with excellent service

Brilliant

Nice welcome by a friendly chap. Loaned me an iron and ironing board . Parking outside of apartment. Clean beds. Cute bar.sells caffreys and desperado. Watched police interceptors on the TV really interesting show highlighting the north east culture.  I let my friend sleep in the double bed as he only has a single at home and I thought it would be a nice little treat for him. I heard a strange whizzing noise coming from (I thought) the next room . For a moment I thought Jeff darmer had moved in but as it turned out it was the gardener outside cleaning up the leaves. If you get in late there's a door open round the side so you don't need to climb the wall. Only negatives .. There was a bit of dusting that could have been done but it didn't kill us off and there was a sharp edge on the kitchen worktop my friend snagged his briefs on this but fortunately didn't break the skin underneath. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on this , we had 2 packets of crisps from the vending machine, no problems with these. Walkers cheese and onion. The quality of the fixtures and fittings is reflected in the price. Taxi into town approx 8£. Apart from the one we got early hours Sunday morning which was a hefty £18.67. Served us right, we couldn't pull ourselves away from watching a violent altercation in a pub called The Black Garter. The proprietor advised us we really should not have ventured here. The strange thing is this pub has an outstanding rating on trip advisor so go figure. Id stay at the Clifton again . Next time I would take some milk and t bags. There's soap and shower gel supplied.

Hotel is very well priced and situated around a 20 minute walk from Newcastle City Centre. 

Hotel advertises free parking, this is incorrect, they charge £5 a day (3pm - 10am), the front of house member of staff  was okay but welcoming. 

The shower was Luke warm when on full heat and the radiator in the room was on full blast all night without an option to turn it down, leaving the room far too hot. 

Other than this The Clifton House Hotel is a suitable low cost place to stay, that is close to the city centre. 

An ideal place to stay for a one night stop in Newcastle, I wouldn’t have wanted to stay more than one night.

An okay place to stop

One night stay in a single room on the eve of the GNR 2023. Booked via booking.com for £34 with no free cancellation. Surprised to find this accommodation at this price due to significant inflation in rates over this weekend due to the event which attract 60000+ runners and spectators. 24 hours after booking I noticed the rates had increased to over £100 per night. Travelling from the West Midlands I simply wanted somewhere safe to park my car, and stay the night before within walking distance of the start line (1.25 miles) and city centre (1.5 miles). There was several other guests who were also running and has chosen this hotel.

The accommodation has on-site car parking for approximately 20 cars but the spaces do appear quite tight. Disappointingly, the hotel does charge for daily parking which was advertised at £5 per day when booking, but upon arrival was increased to £10 per day due for the weekend of the GNR which was a bit of a slap in the face after driving over 300 miles. After paying for one day and sense of security knowing my car was safe overnight, I later discovered from speaking with some local residents that I could have easily parked my car on the residential street outside for free as there are no parking restrictions and the area is prI left my car on the street outside the hotel during the race without any problems or issues. There is a small children’s play area in the car park area, and several pub tables for guests to use. Within the hotel is a bar and lounge area which serves alcohol and shows live sport on tv. 

The hotel has rooms over 3 floors, with a combination of single, double and multiple bed rooms. Some rooms are en-suite and others with shared toilet/shower facilities. Preference of room type is customer choice when booking and price is reflective dependent on the room selected.

The check-in process was quick and simple. I was welcomed by the gentleman manning the bar. The hotel appeared to have new carpet throughout the stair well and landing areas.
I stayed in a single room with shared toilet/shower. The room was reminiscent of a university bedroom with single bed, wardrobe, sink, small table and small tv (with freeview channels). The bed was soft and I had a good night sleep. The shower and toilet served their purpose for one night but anything more than a night or two then having to wait when occupied by other guests would have become frustrating. 

The major letdown of this hotel was its variable cleanliness. Communal areas appeared satisfactory and bedding fresh. Sadly the sink in my room was slow to drain, and when investigating further due to frequent use as an ashtray by previous guests. The top of the wardrobe was filthy and clearly overlooked on the cleaning chart. The shower doors barely stayed on their rails and didn’t close properly and the shower head on the electric shower was unable to be adjusted to change the angle as the holder was broken. Yet again water was slow to drain and I had to be cautious not to flood the floor. The unit needs a complete makeover. 

Checkout was simple. Once again, another gentleman covering the bar/reception was polite and friendly, took the jet and wished me a good day. 

In summary…….I was satisfied with my 1 night stay at the Clifton Hotel & Bar. I was in search of a safe, comfortable and reasonably priced place to stay for myself and this place ticked all the boxes. I would recommend this hotel for those in search for a short stay of 1-2 nights, and for those simply looking for a bed to sleep in. Due to its location, I would recommend this hotel for runners of the GNR or groups of people looking for a party night on Newcastle. From researching the hotel during booking I was prepared not to be expecting the Ritz, but a handful of unclean areas within my room has lowered the score of my review. I hope the owners can take this review constructively as a decent clean and unblocking of the room sink can be an easy fix.

One night stay pre GNR

Down to earth hotel no frills week days mainly workmen. I stayed Mon to Fri no problems room was clean small TV and WiFi no kettle but tea and coffee available 24hrs at side of bar every one was friendly staff asked every morning if I was OK also when I got back. Down the hill turn left for bus into centre turn right for shops 10 minutes walk lovely cafe tchibo for breakfast and other food, I was visiting hospital all week, hotel ideal but if you want posh and extras don't go and then complain  for £32 a night great value 

Not the Ritz it's a basic hote

Clean but very basic small room. Tv in wierd position. No tea and coffee facilities. 
£5 to park ..... NOT Free.
Friendly staff but very noisy , more for stag / hen stays . 
Quite a walk into Newcastle town centre.
