Used Booking.Com when booking this hotel back in October with a free cancellation policy. Full payment was taken - due to the current situation I cancelled and received an email from Booking.Com to confirm free cancellation. I CANNOT get a refund and have now lodged a complaint with the bank. Booking.Com are not interested and directed me to the hotel to ask for a refund - no luck there and when I tried to phone them again the number is now unobtainable. Very frustrating.

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oak; the party consisted of my wife and I, another couple, and some friends. 

Julie and her husband are very welcoming. They have only been managing the business for a couple of weeks, so you can pretty much disregard all reviews prior to this one.  I now understand the negative reviews to have been caused by the previous occupant/manager, not the present management team

Julie and her husband are on a journey to build the business and offer something for the local community and for visitors alike.

They couldn’t have been more helpful during our stay. There are a few snags we hit, but they were both straight onto them and couldn’t have been more accommodating.

There are a variety of rooms available to suit all budgets. I state this because I think for some prior reviews, the author has wanted to pay travel lodge prices, yet get a Savoy experience. The Royal Oak is on the correct price point, for what you get, IMHO

The bar is well stocked and the breakfast was very good with flexibility on timings.

Was attending a wedding in the area and chose this B&B for an overnight stay 

We emailed them closer to the date to let them know what time we would be arriving and asked could they arrange a taxi to & from the location ... They replied that would be fine 

On arrival the front door was unlocked, there was no one at the desk and the bar area was locked up.  I rang the bell a few times, shouted hello had a little walk around the building-not a soul around 

We started too call the hotel number which we could hear the telephone ringing from a distance so decided to go upstairs and knock on a few doors but still no answer 

At this point we had wasted the best part of 20 minutes and was starting to get concerned that we would miss the the beginning of the wedding 

My husband went behind the desk and found a list of telephone numbers pinned on the wall which we started ringing, a lady answered and apologised and said she would try and call someone for us, again we could hear the telephone ringing from a distance 

We gave her 5 minutes and called her back at which point she told us someone was on there way, waited another 5 minutes tried to call the lady again and was text a number to call which we did but no one answered 

Luckily we had some friends staying in another B&B close by, we called them and they found us another room at there B&B, we left a note on the desk got our bags and went to the car, as we were leaving a car with a man pulled up and told me he didn’t know what was going on he only found out a few minutes ago (I had booked months previously & emailed) I will admit my tone was not pleasant, we were now late for the wedding and had no taxi...  We left !!!

Goes without saying I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy 

DO NOT STAY HERE!!

We stayed here for one night,despite being unable to park in the carpark we were lucky to find free parking opposite. Friendly check in, room cold on arrival but we were told for safety reasons the radiator wasn't left on so it took a while to heat up the room.A good supply of tea/coffee and milk sachets provided with packets of biscuits given too and very useful shower caps with sachets of shower/shampoo. Bed comfy, but maybe blankets left available for use would be useful as an extra cover for the bed.  The cooked Breakfast was lovely (was included in our room price) and there was a toaster provided  so you could make your own toast with a good selection of spreads including marmite ( not everyone likes jam on their toast!) the fresh coffee also very nice, would definitely make a return visit

Clean and warm room very friendly staff excellent breakfast the Royal Oak proved to be a good Choice as it was good value and in a great location with lots to see and do with in easy walking distance would definitely stay there again

Good value great location 

I stayed in the Royal Oak for 2 nights over the weekend for a friends 50th bash.  Kate, the landlady was fantastic.  She was very friendly, welcoming and honestly couldn't do enough for you to make sure you enjoyed your stay.  Kates breakfasts were pretty good too :).  The rooms were nice, clean and spacious and the whole hotel was welcoming and friendly.  The downstairs bar was good fun too for a quick drink before we headed out.  The Hotel is very old and has loads of history with it, as i think it was built in the 1500;s.  The carpark is a bit tight, as originally the entrance to the carpark used to be for carriages, but once you get into the courtyard, there was enough space to park up.  The Royal Oak was the perfect place for me and I honestly enjoyed my stay there.  I would absolutley go back again.

Recent Stay at the Royal Oak Hotel

We used this as a base for walking in the Malvern Hills as the prices in Malvern themselves are pretty high. The place feels tired and could do with a really good renovation and clean up. I know the building is steeped in history and my comments are not related to the age of the building. The staff are really helpful and nice. It served the purpose.

Does the job but feels tired 

We were staying in Ledbury and went to the Royal Oak, were about to enter and 2 female staff came out to join 2 men standing over the entrance and were using foul language and all 4 appeared very drunk.
The female swearing initially apologised for her language and then started swearing and laughing at us again and made abusive and extremely rude comments about myself and our dog and when I asked her to not be so offensive, she shouted an extremely rude and offensive comment continuing to swear. I was highly offended by their behaviour and had done nothing to deserve this. Really upset by their comments which really spoilt the evening.
If this is seen as acceptable behaviour, I am shocked and appalled. 
Will not be going near this establishment again.
Would give 0 if it was available.

Disgraceful behaviour

We were lucky to be able to book the night to stay last minute. The hotel is in an old pub and the facilities are old fashioned. Our room was up stairs and the ever of the roof could be seen. The shower and toilet area was small but sufficient for our use. The room was clean and it had tea making facilities, tv and it suited us. Breakfast in the morning we had a choice of cereals, fruit juice and a very tasty English breakfast. We will definitely book in there again when we visit friends in Ledbury.

A last minute stay in Ledbury.

A group of us were attending a wedding and so stayed here for the weekend. The rooms were comfortable and the manager Kate was very accommodating and cooked a lovely breakfast. The bar was open late for us and the locals were welcoming!
