The owner is nothing short of an embarrassment to Yorkshire and Yorkshire people. He’s is condescending, patronising and very demeaning. I have also just watched him on 4 in a bed and I can honestly say I have never been more embarrassed. The rooms are lacking in good cleanliness l, they all need work on them and need updating to the 21st century. Come on John get a grip.

Disgraceful

Was recommended by a friend to stay here but what an awful stay we had room was dirty and needed redecorating. Bathroom shower was low power and was either very hot or freezing cold. Room was cold and I couldn’t get heating on and couldn’t find management to attend to this. Very eclectic mix of styles and not to my taste and made room look very scruffy. Hairs on pillows and very much put us off.  Breakfast very poor and took long time to arrive and I could not eat most of it. Most definitely not value for money. Unless you like miss matched room furniture and management who are never around to assist guessed I’d absolutely stay away. There are other local venues much better than this and less costly.  Just save you money and stay elsewhere!!!!!

Absolutely terrible place very dated could do with a huge makeover  John the owner is a narcissist and absolute woman hater the breakfast was awful the eggs were burnt truly could not wait to get out of the place save yourselves and book elsewhere

Really Awful

Rooms and general appearance is shabby.  My room was not very clean and furniture has seen better days.
Poor selection of options for an uncooked breakfast.

Owner was rather rude and arrogant.

Would not stay here again.

Shocking - a real shambles

The only good thing about this place is the view from it. I have never stayed anywhere like it and hope I never do again.  The room can only be described as dirty and there was a strange smell. Everything was mismatched and so much of it was old and worn out.  Breakfast was poor and the cooked art of it was only luke warm.  The owner was scruffy and an arrogant man, it left me feeling embarrassed to be from Yorkshire but thankfully I know he is the exception to the rule.

Absolutely dreadful

The  owner is a pure embarrassment to Yorkshire & Yorkshire folk.
I felt ashamed to be from Yorkshire after visiting his hovel. 
Miss match he calls shabby chic, leave out the chic. Breakfast uder cooked sausage hard egg, cheap below catering grade produce.
Very opinionated never in the wrong attitude. 
The place its self is damp & smelly, i wish i'd left the night before.

The pits

In some respects this review is pointless as the day we left there was an auction starting to sell everything, including the building. It's true that the views are amazing and is a great location for dog owners...but other than that I'm afraid I have nothing else positive to say. Furniture was tatty (but has been sold) beds were not very comfy (but have been sold) and the bathroom was in need of a major overhaul. Won't bother to see if new owners will make improvements as it is tucked away from civilization, which may suit some folk but not us.

When I arrived at this property I was approached by a man 'John the owner' who took me and my wife into his bedroom, I found this strange he then kissed my on the cheek and stood extremely close to her to the point she has to step back away from him. He then showed us into 'our' shared kitchen and living space. Our room was right next to his partitioned with a thin wall with a curtain covering a door that led onto our room. We were confused as to why he had converted his bungalow into somewhere for people to stay. He asked what we were doing that evening and insisted we should go for a drink with him at the bar. I replied that we wanted to relax on our own as we have been working all week. He was very rude and obnoxious and insisted we should drink with him and kept trying to stand near my wife to the point I had to force him away from her. We went into our room and I told the man that I would come and speak to him soon. In the room, it was damp and musky and I am almost certain he could see us I felt like he was watching us. I could hear him in his room next door there was no privacy whatsoever. My wife was so uncomfortable we booked another room somewhere else and we left. I wanted to confront this man about his seedy behavior but my wife insisted we try to get our money back and say it was an emergency. We didn't receive a penny back for any of the nights we had booked there and we were not even at the property for more than 20 minutes. How is he on booking.com



DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL COSTS

My partner booked this accommodation and I had no idea what to expect when we arrived. The exterior looks a bit haphazard but we were greeted by our very welcoming host, John.

He was quick to tell us that he wanted us to have a nice, relaxing time and to let him know if we needed anything. We had a quick tour around before being shown to our room.

The place is like walking into an antique shop. Not everyone’s cup of tea I would imagine and I wasn’t sure whether I liked it at the start. We were shown to our room, which was very quirky but nevertheless, comfortable and clean. 

We spent most of the Saturday evening sat in the lounge and relaxing with a drink. At one point, the host, John, came in with two other guests and we all spent the evening chatting together and hearing about John’s life. John is a somewhat eccentric chap but what a brilliant, friendly personality, and we were all made to feel very welcome.

We slept well in a comfy bed in the King Size room. The following morning we were treated to a lovely breakfast with John being a very attentive host. 

On arriving I wasn’t sure what to think about the place but left thinking that I would definitely go there again and am sure that we will do so, the sooner the better as far as I’m concerned.

What a gem! Brilliant!

I stayed at ‘The Edge accommodation’ in 2018 on my own plus two dogs as a stop off to a family holiday and when I needed to book accommodation in Huddersfield for work again a year later I jumped at the chance to stay again. The edge is the best place I have stayed in the UK!! But only if you are looking for a little something different. Located on a cliff edge with fantastic views you will be greeted by John not your stuffy hotelier but a genuine Yorkshire man who takes pride in the accommodation and wants to ensure his guests are catered for. The rooms are rustic but clean, tidy and spacious. Lovely home cooked breakfast plus communal  living room available for all guests to use with amazing furniture, and great views, TV plus an honestly bar servicing most drinks of your choose. There are lovely walks on the door step, local pub down the hill less that 1/2 mile away and Huddersfield less that 10 mins away by car. Reading other reviews makes me sad because this is a lovely place and John a fab host and very dog friendly.
