Me and my family attended the “Breakfast with Santa” here. It was very busy and the staff were warm and friendly and made the experience special for us. I just want a special mention to Sophie who was really lovely, friendly and helpful. The tables were decorated so beautifully as was upstairs it was so cosy. Santa himself was very good and my children was very happy to get a story by him! Well done to the staff at 1885 keep up the good work! We started our Christmas weekend with a bang!. Hopefully we’ll see you again next year 

Breakfast with Santa

Attended for a family meal and visiting family for a 70th birthday. The food was amazing nice size meal for a good price staff are very polite and helpful we stayed over night the room was very clean had everything we needed and the bed was so comfy breakfast was included and again lovely breakfast we will definitely be visiting again 

Excellent all round 

We stayed here for our 10th anniversary and it was great . The room was big with a lovely ensuite, great views and the breakfast was lovely! The staff were friendly too ready to help with anything we will definitely be back.

Amazing stay!

Excellent stay, 100% worth mentioning the outstanding breakfast by chef Nathan. Best hotel full English breakfast we’ve ever had, and we’ve stayed in many posh places!  Top class ingredients and beautiful attention to detail, served fresh and hot with lovely friendly service.Thanks for a great experience:)

Lovely comfy bed, outstanding breakfast!

Stayed for one night to attend a wedding at a venue 10 minutes away. 
The hotel is in a great location, easy to find and quiet. We were luckily upgraded and our room was of a very good size, extremely clean with modern bedroom and private bathroom. 
Breakfast was included in our stay and everything was made fresh, we were incredibly impressed. Quality of food was great. 
Staff were all very friendly and were very helpful.

Wonderful place to stay

Booked in for couple of nights as we were unable to stay with my mum nearby.
From start to finish felt more like a 5star experience than a country pub. 
ALL the staff were excellent, friendly but very professional.
Room was really lovely, great bed and lovely spacious bathroom.
Had drinks in the pub one evening, again lovely service in really lovely surroundings,
Breakfasts were great really good quality ingredients and included in the price, they even allow residents to bring in guests for brekkie so mum joined us one morning. 
Overall a very relaxing, enjoyable stay. Loved it.

Perfect in every way

We booked into 1885 for a family get together. Couldn't fault the hotel and will definitely stay again next time we are in the area,
Clean, spacious bedroom and bathroom.
Very good breakfast, with plenty of time to sit and chat with coffee afterwards.
Cheerful friendly staff. 
There was ample parking and the public areas by the bar and breakfast room were great for meeting and catching up with everyone.

Just returned from the 1885 after the tasting menu. Absolutely outstanding food. Nothing else to say. Other than fantastic.
Really worth a visit, the staff are really knowledgable and a credit to Matt and Nathan. Many thanks.

We were hugely delayed due to traffic issues and the wonderful general manager stayed on for over an hour to meet us on our arrival, which made a stressful experience so much better. 
The rooms have been revamped during Covid and are beautiful. We requested 3 rooms close together and they were able to give us this. They were wonderfully clean and fresh with everything you could need. 
Breakfast was wonderful with lots of choice and such friendly staff. The evening menu looked fabulous but as we were there to attend a family wedding we weren't able to eat there, we would certainly return given the opportunity.  
I can't thank the staff enough for the thoughtfulness and consideration given to us. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and we would definitely recommend to others.

Fabulous accommodation,  great food and tremendously accommodating and friendly staff.

Stayed here for two nights and can not fault the accommodation and standard of food. The room, although very hot ( a fan was supplied the second night) was very comfortable and the breakfasts and evening meals were outstanding. I can highly recommend the fish platter for two. 

The reason I have given only 3 stars ( when it deserved 5) is due to two members of staff who certainly need some training when dealing with customers. 

Due to a misunderstanding we arrived for breakfast at 8.30 on the Saturday morning. The male chef was not amused and TOLD us we were in the wrong and breakfast was at 9.00am. There are ways of speaking to customers and he certainly put the blame entirely on us. 

The previous evening we ordered in advance the fish platter which comes with two glasses of wine. A cheerful and polite young waitress brought the wine ( my husband had already been to the bar and had come back with his beer and the cutlery box but had forgotten to bring me a pint of water! I asked a second young waitress , who was clearing tables,  if she could bring me some water. She refused in a very abrupt manner and said it was policy that you had to go yourself to the bar for any drinks. She then removed the cutlery box and stormed off! The first waitress looked suitably embarressed and offered to get me some water. 

My husband and I had spent nearly £350 for the two nights, including food, and we expect a certain standard of service for this amount of money. The two employees spoilt our break. Such a shame when the other employees were all friendly and professional.
