Pinetum Lodge

The Cedar Barn is splendidly equipped - everything you could need for a sort (or longer) stay.  Owners very helpful.  Beautiful surroundings and clear paths for walking in the old pine forest.  We really enjoyed our weekend stay.

Absolutely fantastic.
Although owners live on the property, they are about half mile up the lane.
The lodge cabin is within the woods, yet, it is fully furnished with all the mod-cons: flat screen tv (lounge and bedroom), DVD player, oven/hobbs, microwave... there’s also a decking area with a small BBQ.
You can walk for miles without seeing anybody.
Plenty of wildlife about: squirrels, rabbits, deers, pheasants, woodpeckers ...
If you’re looking for seclusion then this is the place!

My review is from about 1989, 31 years ago. I found our photo from our visit at Pinetum Lodge, recalled the name.and the wonderful hosts and wanted to share our long ago experience. We were traveling by car in the area with friends. We never booked ahead just got lucky for more than 20 years doing this in Gr. Britain. About 5:00 pm we would start looking for B&B signs. Seeing the Pinetum Lodge sign we started down a hedgerow. We drove and drove and wondered if we had made a bad choice when we saw the gates ahead and the lovely lodge. Nothing had disappointed us. 
The hosts were very welcoming and pointed out the newest building: a mother-in-law's home and the old Roman ruins. We stayed in the main Lodge. It seemed that the hosts were ecologically aware at the time, for they had some handmade soaps in the rooms and for sale. 
 Our stay was one of the most pleasant of all our 25 years summer trips to England and remains so to this day in 2020.. I am sorry my memory can not comment on the breakfast or other amenities, but I can assure you that the hosts know how to welcome you to their B & B. 
We are happy the hosts are still thriving in their "business. " and see the latest additions are the cabins in the woods.  If were were younger we would want to experience staying in the Forest and meet the hosts once more. You will not be disappointed with Pinetum Lodge and have a memory you can hold for as long as we have. We send our best wishes to the hosts.

We have just had the most wonderful few days in the log cabin. It was absolutely perfect! The cabin is cozy and we loved that it was rustic but had all the mod cons you could ask for! We weren’t really looking for a busy break as I’m expecting a baby but our dog Luna absolutely loved her walks around the grounds and all the smells! There is a beautiful treehouse and the path around the property is great for a stroll! 
We will definitely be back! I would highly recommend for a nice relaxing getaway from reality!

We stayed in the main lodge as a family group on 10+1 and what an amazing experience it was.  The host Carol and David were very helpful thought the booking process and the numerous follow up questions and even cooked us some Quiches for our arrival!

The house (an old hunting lodge) is enormous and very well equipped for a large group, with a huge reception/drawing room with numerous sofas and fires at both ends, a homely kitchen with Aga and plenty of space to eat.  The bedrooms are large with most having en-suites.  The house has a very 'homely' feel and is you are looking for luxury accommodation Pinetum may not be for you, but if you are looking for a beautiful house in an awesome setting that feels like a home from home then this is for you!

We stayed at the main house (10 adults + 1 child) for Christmas 2017. From the very moment we booked the property both David & Carol were incredibly helpful. As a large party coming from afar (UK, OZ & France!) We had a lot to organise and they were always at the end of an email or phone call to help us sort everything - including sourcing our Christmas ham, goose & salmon!

The house itself is SO homely and cosy, clearly been well-loved by David & Carol's family through the years. The bedrooms were plenty for a group of 10 of us and the large drawing room with open fires at each end were perfect for our Christmas setting! The eat in farmhouse kitchen is heated by an aga (which took a bit of getting used to) but in the end was a dream. 

The area is remote, but has fantastic walks and brilliant pubs close by. 

Would totally recommend staying here as a large group for Christmas, would love to return one day, perhaps during the summer months to make use of the swimming pool!

Fantastic stay in this enchanting log cabin. We were met by David and Carol who were just so friendly! The cabin itself is charming and rustic but with modern touches - mood lighting sky tv quirky bath area! The animal noises of a night take some getting used to especially the ones on the roof! We took a walk through the woods which was lovely so much to explore. You can easily shut yourself off from the world here if you want to as you won’t see anyone or you can easily reach local amenities by driving down the very long dirt track to the main road. Perfect for everyone. We will definitely be coming back! Fabulous 😊

Absolutely beautiful real log cabin in the middle of the woods. Fantastic experience, surrounded by lots of natural beauty, loads of walks and things to do nearby. The lodges & lots of pubs & activities nearby are dog friendly.  I would definitely recommend & will be going back 😁

Lovely little log cabin in the woods. Everything was there except information regarding local amenities( I forgot the milk), 
Couldn’t leave the windows open at night because of the wonderful bugs around so it was quite stuffy. I suggested maybe a window with mesh so the air could circulate wouldn’t fancy the cabin in the middle of summer., 
All in all a pleasant weekend away.
