Eh, on first glances, it was all new to me with staying in a wood cabin/summer house in the garden and that possibly bumped up my rating a bit! 

However, the en-suite shower clogged up way too easily, the shower head holder was utterly unsuited for its job,the toilet was constantly running even after flushing. 

Breakfast was a little thin on the ground, although the poached eggs and beans on two toast were perfectly fine. Coffee was mediocre and served in a teapot…! 

The mattress was tired and lumpy, the duvet shabby and the TV didn’t really want to work! 

One more thing. Much as I love dogs, I did not need it constantly coming into my room. I left the door open to let some air in, not to welcome said dog in. It nearly choked on the rubbish in the bin…! 🤦‍♂️

All in all, for the price I paid, it could’ve been a better experience.

Tired and shabby but adequate.

The single acceptable point about this place is the poached eggs for breakfast. 

There were no redeeming features here ... Everything was shabby and dirty. The "ensuite" that I was put in - the room booked was not ready and still had dirty sheets on the bed - is a SHED instead of a comfy room; nasty sheets and pillows that stank of disinfectant soap; a tired old withered duvet and no spare blankets (December booking); no opening window, no wardrobe or chair, clogged shower drain, mildewed shower curtain, broken blind, no street parking, hard to access. Hostess comes across as kind and gentle but has zero notion of customer service. I'm sure she'd prefer to take your money but not actually have to host you. Very poor accommodation for able-bodied people but completely unsuitable for disabled folk.

Now blaming the disability for the lack of adequate provision - like a window! "We're a hotel not a hospital" is her excuse when she was informed well ahead of a disabled person's special needs - but chose not to respond. She also did not respond to the complaint put to her. Disgraceful.

Fled the Shed. Couldn't get away quick enough!

Karen cancelled my booking and relisted my room at a massively increased price.  Gave me some excuse that received a telephone but had forgotten to check the online bookings???? Absolute rubbish. It was my booking she cancelled conveniently. Still plenty of rooms still available at 4 times the price, blatantly trying to profiteer as she said i could book another room, not the one i had originally booked for the same dates, at this increased price. Don't trust a place that will cancel you booking at a drop of a hat and relist if they can make more money.

Absolute con-women

The Alice Guest House failed to meet my expectations, unfortunately, it would seem that I was intruding on a family home rather than being a valued guest.

I arrived fifteen minutes earlier than my anticipated arrival time which was such an inconvenience to the owner I was left feeling very uncomfortable and stressed rather than a guest.

The room benefited from a four poster bed which dominated the space leaving little room for manoeuvring around, the television only broadcasted three of the forty-odd free view channels, the Wi-Fi was extremely slow and the whole room needed a very good clean, no power sockets was operating and the room was very damp and smelt musty.

The shared bathrooms were also lacking in cleanliness and with one of the two showers not working there was an inevitable queue in the morning.

‘Breakfast’ was limited with no juices on offer for example, the coffee was undrinkable.

Being asked to pay again after breakfast when I had already paid the night before left a ‘bitter taste’.

The house is difficult to locate down a narrow alleyway of terrace houses, the location is not good for public transport with no buses stopping close by and the train station out on the edge of the town requires an expensive cab ride to the property. 

The town centre and its attractions and amenities are some twenty to thirty minutes walk away.

Some might argue that the Alice Guest House offers value for money yet given all the compromises that guests have to make I would disagree.

Sorry but will not be returning and cannot recommend it.



Could be so much better with a little effort.

I walked 20 mins to Alice Guset House from Cheltenham Spa Station,You can get a number D bus from just outside the station which should take aprrox 10 - 15 mins,  Met Karen owner and she was so lovely & welcoming. She showed me this Wonderful summer house in the garden and as I went in, Fantastic! 
My own bathroom, Shower & toilet, TV, Strong Wifi, Double Bed and electric heaters in the house. It also had a African theme to it with pictures and masks..
For breakfast, Which was inside the main house at the back,  you can have a choice of scrambled or poached on toast 
Or like I did , I had one slice of toast with baked beans and the other toast
With scrambled egg. Also if you wish you can have cereal or porridge or
Buttered crumpets! 
A great place to stay in Cheltenham...



Alice Guest House

I have stayed at this place before and it was a little hidden gem so I convinced my colleague that it was a good place to stay for work. It a little friendly B&B and the lady who runs it is lovely. It's a good, quirky budget place to stay. 
I had a room with a shared bathroom. My room was lovely and clean and had a nice atmosphere.  The bathroom was nice but needed a good deep clean. I appreciate that the place was rather busy so it might have been a bit to do with that, but the bathroom was still tidy.
My colleague stayed in one of the lodges and he had no complaints. He was warm and comfortable. 
Breakfast was very nice. The usual B&B options. 
Overall I would recommend this as a good, budget place to stay in Cheltenham. There is no parking included, but street parking is usually available somewhere around. It's within walking distance of all the nice restaurants, and there are some beautiful walks around.

Lovely host, and quirky atmosphere! 

I had a bit of a disaster staying here I wish I hadn't bothered to be honest Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong  basically I hadn't stayed at the hotel before so didn't have a clue where the hotel was so got a taxi from outside Cheltenham train station it's basically straight down Gloucester Road  about 20-25 minutes if your walking cost me £7 in a taxi 🙄 arrived at the hotel met the owner who I presumed was Alice but there is a story behind the name of the hotel the owners name is actually Karen  she showed me the room looked alright no sink so you have to use the shared bathroom if you want to wash your hands or fill your kettle up to have a coffee or cup of tea every time you walk across the landing the floorboards creek and you bang your head low ceiling the bathroom is shared between 4 rooms so bit of a nightmare showering in the morning or when someone is walking across the landing the floorboards creek breakfast is downstairs not a bad eating area but there is a garden with what look like sheds converted into rooms not sure that's even legal never seen it before I'm a well seasoned traveller first time I've ever come across them had a quick look inside remind me of a sauna with a bed in it they have three sheds in the garden and four rooms inside the house breakfast is just eggs on toast boiled, Scrambled or poached on white or brown toast instant coffee cheap supermarket yogurt  the hotel again is a good 20 minutes walk into the city so I wandered around got something to eat wanted to go up to the Cotswolds but a bit late in the day and found out I would be changing rooms in the morning 🙄 so had to mess about packing my stuff up to change rooms when I got back from the city unpacked my stuff noticed a big cobweb across the wardrobe disgusting takes 30 seconds to give it a wipe then pulled the duvet cover back on the bed as other reviewers have mentioned other people's pubic hairs on the sheets again disgusting and totally unacceptable there was was big brown strains on the sheet and pubic hairs on the sheets and hairs on the duvet cover next to the towels 🤮🤮 changed rooms in the morning not a bad room I actually preferred this room to the one I was staying in it had a lot of antique stuff in the room I don't mind that bed looked a lot fresher and smelt better but I was due to check out the next morning so just like that it was time to leave tried ringing the hotels in Cheltenham City Center but they wanted far to much money for one night absolute rip off got quoted £145 for one night and in another a lady wanted £300 for three nights 😆😆 just proper greedy there's no chance paying that kind of money so got myself a bit worked up before I was due to check out spoke to Karen then this Lad from Manchester kept coming out his room his staying in a ground floor room next to the front door he kept coming out his room when I was talking to Karen because I was struggling to get a room then his Girlfriend came out just stood there staring at me I nearly exploded just managed to hold myself together they was just being nosey interfering in other people's business so I was irritated and handed over my room key to Karen the Manchester lad and his girlfriend still staring 🙄😆 I will never stay at the hotel again not sure I will stay in Cheltenham again to greedy.  

£50 a night for eggs on toast 🙄

I booked this guest house because I wanted an economical room for the evening to break my journey up on my way from Essex to Wales. It was £45 for the night & I had a lovely warm log cabin with a bathroom and breakfast included. The host called me ahead of check in to confirm when I would be arriving & when I arrived she kindly met me & showed me to my cabin, which was a Moroccan themed room. It felt warm and very cosy and it was clean and tidy . As it was late in the evening I pretty much crashed in to the very comfy bed & said I’d like breakfast at 8.15am. 
Because it is right in Cheltenham there is not any on site parking, although there are side streets where you can safely leave your car. I parked in the Hardwick college campus across the way but be sure to check the parking conditions so you don’t get a ticket. 
There was a lot of road noise during the night which I am not used to as I don’t live in a busy town/city, however this wasn’t an issue as I was just tired! In the morning I was the only person for breakfast at my time and had poached eggs on toast, which set me up for the day and had a nice chat with the host before I left. When booking it does state that it is a shared bathroom although you can specify type of room. I paid a little bit more and booked the double room and had my own bathroom in the cabin, which was lodge number 1. For £45 on a Sunday evening to have as a rest stop I can only highly recommend Alice guest house. It seems the other reviews are unfair as I did not find any fault at all & I had a very comfortable night.

Stopped for the night on my way to Wales

After letting our host know our arrival time earlier in the week we arrived 10 minutes later than we had said and our room wasnt ready. So we decided to have a cuppa before meeting up with friends.  One of our cups was filthy so we decide to let our host finish the room while we set off to meet friends. We arrived back at 10.30 pm and the only thing that had changed was towels put on bed. The dirty cup was still there. We decided to just get in bed as we were tired. The bed squeaked with the slightest of movemennts. We didnt get a very goodnights sleep. When we woke the next morning we was shocked by the room. Cobwebs strewn over light fitting. Architrave coming away from door frame. They was storeing someone elses clothes in the wardrobe so we only had limited space. Tea stains up the wall near the bin. Cornice missing off wardrobe. Lamp not working extension cables so kettle had to be boiled on the floor. And dirty towels in another wardrobe that smelled. After reading some reviews on booking.com on a few occasions it mentions the hosts husband to be aggressive and felt threatening so we decided not to say anything there and then as were not confrontational people. I would give our host time to explain why it was like it was once we get home.
The breakfast wasnt up to much either as no full english. Ok if just want eggs or beans or cheese on brown toast or crumpets. No white bread option. Booking says free localparking were you park at your own risk. Terraced street outside someone elses home. We ended up paying £16.20 for the duration of our stay at an ncp car park 15minute walk away.
Only nice thing about this place was the breakfast room was nice. When someone makes a complaint they always pushes it back onto the customer. If could give zero stars i would there was also stained curtains.

Never again

Alcoholic lodger who started drinking from 10.15am came back that night at 10.30pm and he was absolutely pissed. Top off and could barely speak, made it very uncomfortable staying there, this was a regular occurrence with our stay.  Bathroom stank of piss and room had a nasty odour. Pillows were very rank. Chalet was like a furnace at night which made it very hard to sleep. Breakfast was okay but big black hair on toast and coffee was burnt. On last night of stay neighbours decided to have a stoner party kept us awake till 1am ish with very loud, very annoying incessant giggling. 

We would absolutely not recommend this place. We felt very uncomfortable with alcoholic lodger. Only good thing was the bed was comfy. There is no parking whatsoever, when it states public parking available it means find a spot on the street and the streets are normally already packed with cars parked.
