Lostwithiel is on the river very pleasant place to visit and there is a nice park near by which has a pleasant walk along the river ideal for dogs. There is also a hotel near by that caters for dogs which is a best Western Hotel a short walk from the village. 

Very Charming

Whilst located on the Main A390 into Town, its far enough back from it so as not to notice any traffic noise. 

The host Shirley was warm and welcoming throughout with nothing too much trouble throughout my 2 nights there. 

Single room was large with all the facilities you'd want including WI-FI, Bed was very comfy. Fantastic VFM and would highly recommend to anyone in the region whether for the Eden Project or taking in the ancient market town of Lostwithiel.

Nothing too much trouble

This is a character property and as such does not have all the mod cons like ensuite bathrooms. This is not the standard of a premier inn but i found it charming, comfortable and i slept like a log. mrs saunders was a kind and gracious host and gave us a breakfast of champions with homemade preserves. Staying there took me back to my childhood. I wish i could have stayed longer.

Charming but not for everyone

Me and a friend booked the twin room, tea and coffee making facilities were already in there, shirley showed us around and showed us what there was to do in lostwithiel.  The owner is very friendly and has a lovely little cat. The cat is friendly but seems generally disinterested in the guests. No room keys were given to us but that wasn't a problem as we could lock it from the inside while we were in there. When we went out we came back to fresh cups and saucers, refilled tea and coffee making facilities and a tidier room. We were generally happy. The only complains we have are little. As mentioned in a previous review the shower is essentially pressure less but a quick turn of the nozzle makes it usable, and the "private bathroom" advertised with some of the rooms isn't private, but it was always free when one of us needed to use it.  Breakfast was nice, and breakfast times are pretty flexible. If you need anything, you just need to ask for it.

Had a pleasant time

We managed to book this guesthouse last minute as a result of a change in the weather. We're very glad we did, nice comfy bed, very accommodating owner.
we woke to a lovely breakfast,with nice homemade marmalade.
The house is turn of the century with all the old features retained.
We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely surroundings

I have stayed in this B&B twice and will be using it again next year. Shirley is a lovely lady who just requires a bit of old fashioned respect. The clue is in the name. Benthams is a bed and breakfast not a hotel. I found it clean and comfortable. I was not sure when we booked last year as I prefer to stay somewhere with an en suite but Benthams is very good value for money and just 20 minutes away from the Eden project. We had to get there at a specified time to pick up a key but I think that is fair enough. The breakfast was lovely and, all in all, I found this place to be excellent and our hostess very friendly.

Perfect for our needs!

I am not one to complain & don't like confrontation... However, I booked a single room for 4 nights whilst studying down in Cornwall. I called before I left to inform the lady I now know as Shirley that I would be arriving between 8-9pm. My common courtesy seemed to confuse her... It was dark when I arrived after a 7 hour drive & I was exhausted & due to start my course at 9am the following morning. I stupidly gave her £120 cash in advance, a sign of my commitment to her, which I now regret. I was immediately disappointed in the twin room I was allocated but had no option but to grin & bear it, maybe it would be ok? As long as I had somewhere to sleep, I could suffer it. The smell of moth balls was over powering. Within half an hour I was snivelling in my room with disbelief that someone could offer this as accommodation... Even if it was £5 a night, it was unbearable... The room was a dumping ground for old furniture- it had 3 chest of drawers, 4 inc the ones attached to the old wardrobe, one set was positioned in front of an internal door, presumably to hide access? Half of a bed base was covered by a bed spread & placed along the wall next to the wardrobe. There where 2 old chairs positioned by the window that were never going to be used, they were so hard & uncomfortable. The portable TV screen was rolling & there was a buzzing noise which increased louder than the volume of the TV. It was so cold, the heater didn't work & the draft coming through the windows was atrocious.... I couldn't believe I was in this predicament. I couldn't even make a cup of tea as there was no kettle. I just got into bed & cried. The bed was lumpy so I tried the other one which was just as bad... I laid there shivering & miserable all night. My alarm was set for 8am but as I was still awake at 7am I decided to get up & out of there. Shirley was adamant that there was nothing wrong & that I should've let her know I was unhappy... But where do you start when so much is wrong at night?! She gave me £60 back instead of £90 so I paid £60 to suffer in her hands for 9 hours! The damage was deeper than that as it affected me for 2 days & had a detrimental effect on my studies & well being. I am writing this from a fantastic room at £30 per night & now know that her accommodation & her attitude stinks. I wouldn't have written this but it appears I'm not alone in my findings & she has not taken heed of previous complaints. I took photos to show how bad it was & the only reason I'm not putting them on here is because I don't want to be spiteful, just heard. If you like smelly clutter, windows dripping with condensation & an icy chill is your thing... Book this place. The shower was my saving grace, at least it was hot.
