Ayazma Hotel

I stayed at the Ayazma Otel at the end of June, just as high season in the Cesme area was picking up. I have rated the hotel 4 stars because while I felt that its location is great and the hosts are lovely people, I thought that 180 TL/night for a room (admittedly housing 3 people) was overpriced for the bland furniture/decor and lack of in-room cleaning and new towels. Regarding the location, it is a perfect spot from which to explore Alacati. Situated on the border between the transportation area of 'new' Alacati and its old town, the hotel was extremely accessible to everything we needed and was also very quiet despite the town's active nightlife. The hotel itself appears to be an old stone home converted into a B&B. It is not one of Alacati's more charming buildings, although it has a pleasant garden area for eating breakfast and otherwise relaxing, and the shared spaces are filled with flowers, herbs, and trees bearing fruit like pomegranates. The rooms have good air conditioning and clean bathrooms with hair dryers. Our room in particular had a large double bed and one single bed. The breakfast spread in the morning is huge, fresh, delicious, and is slightly different every day, and is served over a wide span of hours. The owners, a husband and wife, are lovely and are consistently reachable. When I decided to read downstairs late one night, the husband made me a cup of tea with herbs from their own garden. They were also kind enough to let us keep our room until late afternoon on the day of check-out. The main negative for me was the bland, cheap-looking decor typical of most mid-range Turkish hotels. They also did not service the room at all during our 3-night/3-day stay, which left our room fairly overflowing with wet towels and trash. It seems to me that at least trash should have been removed during that time. Overall, the hospitality was great, and I believe the pricing to be reflective of Alacati's extreme popularity at the moment. The owners are wonderful hosts and will certainly show guests a great time, but during my next visit I will probably look around to see if there is a better combination of style and price.
