I loved the location of this hostel in Shilin area, close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. From there, with a bus or the MRT, it's very quick and easy to go North to Yangmingshan National park and Beitou, or to the coast at Tamsui. There is a morning market and, of course, Shilin night market that starts across the street everyday around 5 PM. From Jiantan MRT you can also climb Jiantan mountain to get an overview of Taipei city. It's also easy to walk to the National Palace museum and to the National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine along the river...
The hostel itself is very nice, clean and comfortable. The rooms are modern and well-equipped, and the spacious common room facing the reception desk is a perfect place for socializing, having some food or working. 
Finally, the manager Kenny and the staff are very nice and helpful, and the WiFi excellent!

Good location, comfortable place, friendly staff

I had initially booked for two nights, but ended up staying for a total of five nights. Mono'tel Shilin is conveniently located, about 350 m from the Jiantan MRT station and right opposite to the Shilin Night Market. The hostel is modern, clean, and comfortable with a huge common area. The dorm beds are private and are equipped with a USB charging point, a couple of outlets, a light, and a fan. 

A coin laundry machine is available. I guess it is 50 NTD. Freshly brewed tea and coffee is always available at the common area.

Though it is just opposite to the Shilin Night Market, there is no noise as the rooms are located at L3. So, it is calm and peaceful. 

The staff are friendly. I had checked out and was waiting in the common area. There was a cooking event for the students visiting from Malaysia and Indonesia. When Johnny, their Sales Manager, saw me sitting at the lobby, he invited me to try my hand in making dumplings. And while I was leaving, he gave me coffee jelly that the kids had made. 

I would recommend this to anyone visiting Taipei !

Classy Place

We came to Taipei to travel as 3 young professionals looking for a good priced hostel where we could have a private room as well as have a nice atmosphere and close to shilin night market and Beitou hot springs in the north of Taipei.  We arrived super early and the man at the desk was very accommodating to let us chill in the conference room until our room was ready. Bed was super comfy in family room. We had curtains to block out the light. Ladies and gentlemen at the desk were friendly and helpful when asking for recommendations and where to buy a phone plan. Showers were shared but was super clean and nice and hot with shampoo and body wash. 5 min walk to shilin mrt station or jientan station. They have free drinking water machines and free coffee and tea anytime and so convenient with 711 right outside! Awesome place!

So fresh and so clean 

This hostel is awesome. Clean rooms, spacious common areas, uber helpful staff, great coffee and tea in lobby, free drinkimg water, large showers with shampoo and shower gel, cozy duvets, and literally right across from Shilin Night Market and 7-eleven just next door ❤
