I had a night stay in Duke hotel on 9 June and I must say I checked into this hotel with no expectation.

Upon arriving early at the hotel, I left my luggage with the concierge after resolving some check-in issue and thus I was issued the luggage tags. 

I was eventually allocated a room at level 6 with no window. What put me off was the strong smell emerging from the room and with poor ventilation, I requested for another room. I was given another room with no window at level 10 but it definitely helped the situation. 

However, what displeased me most was the standard of service rendered by one of the staff shortly after.

I checked out at 6am the next day to catch the bus to go Alishan but to my horror, no one was at the lobby area. I waited for 5-10min before the staff walked in from level 6, I presume. What pissed me off was there was no word of apology. I requested for my luggage to be deposited with the hotel but was told the hotel ran out of luggage tags. 
What appalled me was the rude service rendered by the staff when I told her with no luggage tag, I may have problem retrieving them when I returned from Alishan in the afternoon n most probably, she would have knocked off by then. The service staff certainly lacked the service standard and norm illustrated by most hotels.

This shall be my first and last stay with this hotel though it is located just across the bus station to Alishan. 

The hotel has to beef up its service standard and hygiene condition.

Transit in Chiayi before Alishan

We stayed here 2 nights. This Duke Hotel opposite is train station and bus terminal station . Room not bad and clean . The breakfast is bad and every food it was cold . First day they give our McDonald's voucher .

Great Location

Duke Hotel opposite the railway station and bus terminal is an ideal hotel for less fuzzy travellers.  The location makes it very convenient to check in after a bus or train trip from Kaoshiung.  However, the hotel is housed with other offices and it may not be easy to spot them.

Once it is located, take the lift to the 10th floor where the lobby is and the checking in is easy.  We were too early for the check-in, no problem, leave our luggage behind and we could enjoy the free massage at the two massage chairs in the lobby.  We just did that and we walked to the nearby two shopping centres of Chiayi.

We returned to the hotel at around 6 pm after our dinner and we were allocated a room at the sixth floor.  Tomorrow's breakfast at 6.30 am was round the corner of our room, which made a good first impression.  The room was newly, brightly and coloured with surrounding mirrors.  We loved it.  For a small hotel, the TV is big, perhaps 42 cm......and many lovely shows as well.

For the price we paid, the stay was really value for money.

Hotel with nice decor and location

We picked this hotel as it is near the train station on our way to Fengchihu. The lift heading up to the hotel is really slow therefore you will have to wait a fair bit for the lift. This is especially so if there are large tour groups in the hotel. The check-in counter to the hotel is at level 10 and as we arrived earlier than expected, we waited at the lobby for them to prepare the room for us. Customer service was ok but there are a number of negative points about the hotel which some are just personal preference and customer issues. Firstly, there was a Chinese tour group staying in the same level but they were just noisy. The banged on my room there 3 times to look for their “friend” staying in the same level. Secondly, there are stains on the bed which I have stayed in worse places therefore it is minor. Thirdly, the breakfast is lousy. It was cold when we had our breakfast 7.45am. Even the condiments for the toast tastes stale therefore we decided to check out earlier, head down to 7-11 at the train station to eat. It is a good stopover and that it. Nothing fancy about the place.

Small Hotel with Good Location on the Way to Fengchihu

Located on the 10th floor of an unattractive building right across the train station, with little sign near the elevator direct guest to this property. 
Room size was O.K., but it seems that no air has flown into the room for several days.  
The reception staff had good intentions, however, those who where on duty when I arrived spoke to me through mobile phone application .... it was a bit of fun, and made me feel like I'm taking part in a film of Louis de Funes.
Breakfast was very basic.
I arrived at the hotel in the afternoon with the intention to leave early the following morning on my way to Alishan. Therefore, I did not expect high-class accommodation, so I was not disappointed. What was important for me was the location: near the railway station and the bus station to Alishan. Regarding this aspect, the hotel fulfilled its purpose.
